  1. Winter Meetings...that is where a lot of the offseason action occurs.
  2. Mizzou is a Top 10 team where?
  3. Having a crap farm system is going to win you a lot less. As a smaller revenue team, the Brewers have to maintain a decent farm in order to continually have pre-arby guys on the roster. Without pre-arby guys on the roster, payroll adds up quickly and we get stuck with holes in the roster that can't be filled. Of course everyone won't become a 23-year-old superstar. Not everyone needs to be. It's great when we get superstars from the farm, but having average MLB players and role players making league minimum is very valuable. That doesn't mean we shouldn't extend our 23-year-old superstars if they are amenable. Age is very important. If we have a guy who has a role on the team and will be a free agent while he is still in his prime, we should look into the possibility of extending him. If he doesn't appear to be in the long-term plans, or if he will be at the end of his prime when team control is up, then we probably shouldn't extend him. I also agree that we shouldn't try to "sell high." This implies that you don't really have a plan, you're just trying to trade someone when you think you can get a good return. That's a horrible strategy. Whatever you're trying to accomplish, you need to have a plan. If you maintain a strong farm, the hope is that you will have replacements available for the guys currently on the MLB roster, allowing you to trade them when their "team control" gets short. This isn't perfect, so there will be times when you hold a tradeable player to free agency, but that should be the exception, not the norm. We should generally be trying to add talent to the franchise, not let top talent walk away for nothing. Well if my farm system is less than stellar(middle of the pack) because I graduated a bunch of successful guys to the MLB level I wouldn’t call that a bad thing. I’m all for trading guys to replenish it in the right situation. However some of the names being thrown around are very controllable and some of our best players. Even non controllable players(like 2011 Prince Fielder) probably shouldn’t be traded if you are putting together a really good team. Generally speaking I wouldn’t trade major players when competing or looking to compete. I’d trade the likes of Gomez/Lucroy/Smith/Thornburg when we seem to be at our low point and not looking to contend soon.
  4. Well he did win his starts in the NLDS and NLCS. Think Roberts will be second guessed the rest of his life for not starting Kershaw? Well until the Dodgers win the World Series. Which probably won’t take terribly long when you can boost a $200mil payroll. Soon enough it will pan out. I don’t really get not starting Kershaw though. Why not give yourself the best chance to get a lead, pump up the crowd, and put the pressure on the other team? Instead they stick themselves in a 5-0 hole real quick.
  5. I’m just going to say having the #1 farm system in baseball is never going to win you anything. I can assure you not everyone is going to be a 23 year old superstar controllable for 6 years. We will have to keep good players who may walk in FA or just burn out by the time we don’t control them anymore. We also don’t have to try and sell high on every guy who has a career year. Other teams aren’t stupid...if some random person on the internet forum thinks he is a big regression candidate I bet every team’s upper guys know too. So selling high isn’t all that peachy and easy. I feel these types of threads too often turn into trade or extend. Sometimes you take chances and just ride out guys contracts. Nothing wrong with that.
  6. Total non prospect at this point. Young enough I guess he could change that, but I doubt it. He looks terrible on both sides of the ball.
  7. Domingo Santana is definitely one...no doubt. No team wouldn’t try to lock up someone like him to an extension. Outside of that it is hard to really guess. Knebel is obviously a big risk, but that also means a big discount too if an extension is worked out. Better get some really attractive options on that deal.
  8. I like Hernan Perez and I hope they keep him around. I'd rather trade away a Villar/Broxton. They would bring back more in a trade too which is a bonus. Perez and his ability to play virtually anywhere is really nice and he provides a decent stat line.
  9. Kinda my thought. Not that I will judge someone on that past, but still.
  10. Whatever. Could easily end up like Scooter Gennett come spring. P This doesnt stop us from making another move.
  11. I can't see why the brewers would do this to trade him. They are getting closer and closer to being a contender so there is no sense in trading one of their top 2 starters who is in a team friendly deal for 4 seasons. Especially with Nelson missing "significant time" this season, he will be looked at to lead the pitching staff not be trade bait. It's a joke...since some people on here always think we should trade peole. No matter what.
  12. I think the difference is Colorado and Arizona were both teams looking to compete. Rockies actually got someone love in the preseason time and obviously the D backs made win now moves. The Brewers were in full tear down.
  13. Loss of draft picks may be coming.
  14. I really didn't have a huge problem with this game. We lost because we suck without Rodgers...bottom line. The offense did a lot better than I thought they would. Hundley looked suprisingly comfortable consistently evading pressure and not bailing out too soon. He also made pretty good throwing decisions minus throwing a deep ball in the field of play which is almost surely a INT with him. Too bad he sucks on anything being thrown over 10-15 yards making him completely useless. That terrible throw to Montgomery was also pretty cringe worthy. Hundley just isn't someone who is going to put together very good drives. To make matters worse he has zero big play ability with his arm making it a total dream to actually get down the field. Unless Aaron Jones is legitimately going to help Hundley out(my fantasy team hopes so) this offense will sputter and get out scored 9/10.
  15. How many single player threads do we need?
  16. The Houston Astros would greatly disagree with you. Especially if they can pull off one more win against the Yankees. Justin Verlander has been a hero. Not to mention they have many more years of Quintana to make him useful anyway. While Houston's trade for Verlander is working out in the short term it also had a long term implication. For a team like the Brewers it is not wise to give up the farm for one or two years. Look what happened last time we gave up the farm for one pitcher. Quintana would have cost us Hader plus other very high prospects. Considering how much Hader has already helped us in the short term I'm not overly convinced Quintana would have helped us win more games last season than Hader did. But as I said it isn't like Quintana is gone now. They have him a pretty long time. Even then you are using just one player as an example of why you should never trade the farm for someone. I could make a laundry list of players who costed a ton, but really helped out the team that got them. It was Verlander this year and last year it was Andrew Miller. We "sold" the farm for Greinke+Marcum and together they were a massive reason we made it so for in 2011. CC Sabathia literally carried us to a postseason birth(exactly what we were shooting for lets be honest). I guess if I was selling the farm I am hoping it is for a pitcher because they tend to have a more direct impact in postseason play. Also, while I don't want to derail the thread, the trades before 2011 were definitely NOT the reason our farm system went into the dumpster...that was because of poor drafting(and the fact we were competing so we weren't selling). We really didn't give up that much future value in those trades. We ended up recouping a lot of that in Segura then Anderson. Just because we traded a few good guys does not mean your farm system is destined for #30 in baseball.

  18. I support the set up with 4 teams per division more than the 8 team divisions. If I was a Minnesota fan I might as well just stop watching if I get put in a division with two NYC teams, Detroit, and Boston. How on earth is that a good idea? Any expansion needs to focus on breaking up big markets in a realignment. Not that big markets don't have down years/times, but if you stack them that much a small market is pretty unlikely to ever win that division.
  19. The offensive line sucks which much makes your ideas pretty tough to do(not your fault). It sounds horrible to say, but it may not matter. Hundley better start figuring out how to read/feel pressure or he will be riding a cart too. He wa getting absolutely drilled against the Vikings. I think we will see some more bootleg runs. I also think they will gameplan for short yardage passes and eating the clock.Thats about the only way they are going to win games. Dominating the clock and keeping the ball away from the other offense as long as possible.
  20. These guys counted all the people that have died either playing or watching baseball. Pretty sure there's no bias in death. http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports_nut/2009/05/youre_out.html And most studies will tell you right off the bat how they count an "injury". The definitive study that most people refer to was done by Bloomberg but the original article is behind a pay wall so I can't tell you how they determined what an injury was. We are talking about watching baseball...not playing it. That article hardly speaked of fans watching the game. Of the thousands upon thousands of baseballs thrown in the history of baseball one person has died. Even serious injuries requiring immediate hospital care...how many? I just think the whole netting thing is massively overblown. You know what is more dangerous than foul balls? Low railings and intoxicated fans. Sitting in my seat at a baseball game is probably one of the safest things I do in my life.
  21. Yah unfortunately someone like Hundley is going to struggle a lot and having a poor line is only going to make it even worse. Hundley can't pick up blitzes like an experienced QB can. I feel bad for the well being of Hundley.
  22. No one is going to walk in the door and carry this team. Hundley is the guy because he actually knows the team. Romo isn't walking out of the booth to lead us to wins and Kaep surely isn't a difference maker. The majority of our wins in a given season are often due to Rodgers doing ungodly things. No one can even get close to replacing that. Unless the defense steps up in a big way this season is done. I am counting down the days to college basketball.
  23. Klements brats are trash and the ones at Miller Park are extra trash. If you want a real good brat go get the ones at one of the Chicago parks. Those literally put the leftover tasting trash at Miller Park to shame. The ones I have had at Wrigley are so good I want to go spend $6 again and again even though I am not hungry anymore. Suddenly it is like I am in my backyard eating an entire pack alone.
  24. Even if they went with Aguilar full time at 1B with a Thames/Perez platoon in RF, is that a much weaker lineup than with Santana and Thames? I don't think so. Oh my...please no. Hernan Perez and Eric Thames are both terrible in the OF and not even better than Santana defensively. You are basically comparing the offense of Aguilar to Santana's. Aguilar full time would be lucky to be average. How can one even flirt with trading Santana? We literally had two true impact bats in our lineup and you want to trade one of them? We need more above average bats not less! Even if you use Santana to help get Stroman, I mean great, but good luck ever scoring runs. We struggled this year because we had no OBP type guys. Now we trade our best bat? Trading Santana is one of the worst ideas even being floated around. It doesn't even matter what the return is honestly. We cannot be getting rid of one of the only true hitters we have.
  25. I loved the new layout. A LOT. The food I got though was really lacking every time though.
