  1. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe hears the Brewers are the most interested team in Sonny Gray. I am confident if it happens Stearns gets the price he wants. He had the control to not push a Quintana trade instead letting the division rival get him. Not really concerned of him overpaying. Wish a controllable ace would come on the market...but pigs haven't flown over yet.
  2. Who would have thought it would be difficult to see a A+ ball player playing in the majors?
  3. Local Brewers media sucks. They must not talk about rumors so the Brewers are nice to them.
  4. It won't for long. Brewrers need to acquire a starter somehow regardless. Not sure I want Sonny Gray, but who knows what the price ends up being. If we are going to trade away a major chunk of our prospects I'd prefer something less risky than that of Gray. That being said I think people are being waaaay too critical of Gray over one year. There is some risk there, but a ton of upside. If I could get a deal done without Brinson/Hader I would be all over it. He may command one of them though and I just don't know about that.
  5. (Hope I did my math right) 10 games over .500 +5.5~Lead for NL Central -1~Back for 2nd WC -3~Back for 1st WC -3.5~Back for #2 seed in NL Cubs record needed to win division if we go .500 here on out: 43-30~99 win pace Cubs record needed if we stay on current pace: 47-26~109 win pace Quick Fact: Arizona is 3-7 in their last ten including a current three game losing streak. Only lead 1st wildcard by 2 games now over the Rockies these days.
  6. I mean the Cubs didn't have someone there and are "highly interested" so not have a scout the doesn't mean everything.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised if they value Burnes just as much or more than those guys. Keep in mind the Brewers "rankings" of their prospects probably doesn't flow the same as ESPN or any other outlets lists.
  8. Awful lot of pitches for 2hits 1walk and only 5k. Yah we better continue rolling out Guerra/Davies. 4 ERs in 5 innnings with a couple homers at least makes sense.
  9. Kopech, Barons shut down Shuckers on Friday Clint Coulter blast his team-leading 11th homer in the loss By Biloxi Shuckers Clint Coulter launches his team-leading eighth home run in Friday night's win in Birmingham (Mark P Driscoll) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: The Shuckers had to face White Sox blue chip prospect Michael Kopech and he dominated the Biloxi line up for six innings. Kopech struck out seven while only giving up one run. The only blemish was a Clint Coulter homerun who had a big day(3-4) to bring his average up to .251 on the season. On the mound for the Shuckers was Jon Perrin who had a solid day going seven strong while striking out six batters and giving up three runs. The solid day for Perrin wasn't enough as the Shuckers dropped the game to Birmingham 1-3 Pitching Summary: On the mound, Jon Perrin (7.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, BB, 6 K) started the game while Quintin Torres-Costa (2.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 3K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Johnny Davis (1-2, 2 BB, SB) Clint Coulter (3-4, R, HR) Rene Garcia (1-2, 2B) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Clint Coulter hits homerun for only Shuckers run. Biloxi Bottom of the 4th Clint Coulter homers (11) on a fly ball to left center field. Angel Ortega flies out to right fielder Jeff Gelalich. Rene Garcia hit by pitch. Javier Betancourt grounds into a double play, third baseman Trey Michalczewski to second baseman Jake Peter to first baseman Keon Barnum. Rene Garcia out at 2nd.
  10. 1. Zach Davies is trash. We will no doubt be trading for at least one start in the next couple of weeks. 2. Santana and Broxton are embarassing sometimes. 11 errors combined? Come on guys we just had the AS break...
  11. Some things about forums I just don't get. One of the main ones is people who enjoy frequenting other team's forums. Even worse is when they make an account. Why? You must either really like arguing or your team's forum really sucks that much. I just will never understand the attraction.
  12. I will take Morgan over Broxton easily. Would also prefer Hart over Santana. Pitching was way way better. Anderson/Nelson likely fade a bit.
  13. Haha all I can think of is Braden Looper. He may have the Brewer record. Dude was absolute trash. 5.22 ERA and 39 HRs given up...14-7.
  14. If he can stay fairly healthy he will be a huge part of this second half. That and any sort of Villar turnaround could make this offense a serious force.
  15. Braun lasting over a month? Ha. Bring him back for a pinch hit AB in game 7...maybe he won't get hurt again this season then.
  16. The CSN Chicago White Sox Podcast from yesterday is an interesting listen. They speculate that the Brewers may have been the team that was primarily in contact with Rick Hahn leading up to Quintana's start on Friday night. More concretely if you go to around the 7:30 mark they discuss when things heated up on Sunday which is also apparently when the Cubs started to get seriously involved, and at the 9:00 minute mark they mention that they know without a doubt that the Brewers (and Braves) were at the finish line or "the five yard line" to use a football analogy. Thanks for the link! One must wonder if the Brewers success this year played heavily in the Cubs decision to pull the trigger.
  17. Bob Nightengale tweeted the Brewers pursuit of Jose Quintana was a serious one. Will be interesting to see if Stearns can nab one of the remaining top of the rotation starters. At least ones fancier than a mid rotation guy.
  18. That's an interesting viewpoint on him when he only has 1,400 innings Zack Greinke going strong at 2,800 innings. Clayton Keyshaw going strong at 1,900. I guess you are thinking he will follow in Justin Verlander's footsteps? I wouldn't be overly concerned about the innings, but I see where you are coming from. Helps he just got a lot of time off to rest his arm.
  19. The thing is the Cubs roster slippage has already begun. The pitching went downhill real fast and they don't have a cheap way to fix it now(no prospects to trade or use). Sure you can spend money, but that is easier said than done. The Cubs still have a lot of young hitting talent, but pitching is really expensive. They are only one disaster ace FA signing(like a Jordan Zimmerman disaster) from having real issues. If FA doesn't end well we will look back on them wondering what the heck happened to such a great team. It certainly seems the dynasty dream for them is fading into the sunset. Now it looks more like a team that will have down years and not post a bunch of 95+ win seasons almost yearly. What they do this offseason will be interesting because Arrieta will be on his way out and he hasn't been good anyway. How will they replace him?
  20. If you really wanted Madison Bumgarner it would take something like Orlando Arcia Domingo Santana Josh Hader (two of)Diaz/Dubon/Erceg/F. Peralta It would likely look similar to when we traded for Greinke. Except Bumgarner has a way better track record and we get him an extra half year. Not to mention he is a beast in the postseason and teams would go nuts for that. It might even need to be more since Arcia(yet) and Santana are not stars.
  21. Shuckers drop series opener to Stephens, Barons on Thursday Gabriel Noriega hit his first home run for the Shuckers in the loss By Biloxi Shuckers Gabriel Noriega hit his first Shuckers home run in the 4-1 loss to Birmingham on Thursday night (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Like too many games before the Biloxi offense just couldn't getting anything going. They mustered only six hits and failed to draw a single walk all night. The only source of offense was a Gabriel Noriega solo homerun in the 8th inning. Luis Ortiz was on the mound to start the game and just couldn't find his command in 3.2 innings. Ortiz gave up two runs and a staggering five walks on the night. All said and done it was a 4-1 loss for the Shuckers. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Luis Ortiz (3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, HR) started the game while Javier S (3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and Josh Uhen (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Gabriel Noriega (1-3, R, RBI, HR) Tyrone Taylor (1-3) Dustin DeMuth (2-4, 2B) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Noriega's bomb only source of offense for Shuckers. Biloxi Bottom of the 8th Gabriel Noriega homers (1) on a fly ball to left center field. Angel Ortega grounds out, third baseman Jake Peter to first baseman Keon Barnum. Johnny Davis grounds out, second baseman Jose Vinicio to first baseman Keon Barnum. Tyrone Taylor hit by pitch. Pitching Change: Jake Johansen replaces Jordan Stephens. Blake Allemand grounds into a force out, shortstop Eddy Alvarez to second baseman Jose Vinicio. Tyrone Taylor out at 2nd.
  22. Tebow hit a walk off homerun and is hitting over .300 so far at A+ with an OPS over .900. He actually has been pretty average which all things considered is pretty incredible http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=tebow-000tim
  23. You're obviously a respected, knowledgeable, and honorable poster. My intent about using the word informed wasn't meant to say that only one view is possible. That's obviously not the case. I was trying to get at some people who look at these things closely, as compared with casual fans, have that view. I should have used the word "some" but I didn't intend any distress for my point. I disagree on drafting pitchers, but that's the fun of message boards. It's not interesting if everyone has the same view. And beyond that, some people can be persuasive. I understand. Sometimes things don't exactly read as you meant. Agreed on differing views though. Even some of the more unique viewpoints end up being accurate sometimes. Briggs was famous for his "every year is special" opinion and got a lot of flack for it. Now it is proving true this year and if we thought like Briggs, for building our bullpen for instance, we could have had Wade Davis instead of Neftali Feliz. Back on topic I don't think I would trade Corbin Burnes over anyone else thinking about it more deeply. I don't know if he can pitch to near ace levels at the MLB level, but I don't want to trade him and find out he can. We cannot afford to finally get a legit pitcher and trade him away.
  24. When did he say that. Jon Morosi mentioned that at some stage they were talking, but nothing hinting that it got all that serious. I think David Stearns is more than willing to move major prospects if it gets him a good controllable player, but I doubt Brinson gets moved which might limit options.
