  1. I think Lewis Brinson was pulled out after the game ended and after Counsell had post game interviews. If not how this wasn't questioned is a fail by the reporters. Ryan Braun also said he was pulled due to score not injury. I would see the need to lie there.
  2. Some people are mentioning the Rule 5 draft for no reason? I just figured we wasn't on the 40 man.
  3. Takes quite awhile to get test results back. Not to mention most if not all players appeal their suspension. So the only way they would have such coordinated planning over a suspension is if said player opened an appeal and now told the Brewers they are dropping it to accept punishment. I hope the Brewers say something soon because we are getting into some crazy theories. It just seems very strange to find the need to pull Brinson unless he is connected to trade rumors if you ask me. I don't think he is, but just weird for them to pull him like that given the other options. OF emergency at the MLB level not related to trade? I'd just be really surprised if this proves to be a simple Phillips/Brinson swap.
  4. Keon Broxton was just sent down after brutal hitting for an extended period of time. Maybe they just don't want him back right now. They already called Brinson up before to just be a quick fill in so, no, I don't see why he would have to play every day from here on out.
  5. Don't really like how people shrug off Cordell because we were going to lose him in the Rule 5 draft anyway. That is true if we didn't trade him, but this was not our only trade option. We could have gotten a prospect(s) in return or something more controllable I am sure. Could have been a plethora of options this winter before the Rule 5 draft. Can't just consider a trade a win because we traded away a player we were going to lose in the Rule 5 draft(Cooper/Cordell) and ignore the fact other options were surely available now or in the future. Not saying I don't like the trade, but not sure one can just shrug off the loss of Cordell like it was nothing. Decent price to pay for a rental reliever with no track record.
  6. I was thinking Brett Phillips as a good piece for a Verlander led package coming from Detroit, but I think there is too much interest from teams other than us where he would likely veto in hope for a trade to the Cubs etc.
  7. Yes my bad so he he like a 1 WAR player...half way to being average. I don't see all the value in something like that. He seems to be average at best with the upside starting to fade quickly. If I was the Brewers I might look to trade him while there is still a little bit of shine to him. Teams don't want streaky players where most of it is streaky bad and leading the lead in strikeouts. I don't hate Keon Broxton, but he is what he is. With two top CF prospects it was time to go. Some teams out there would want Broxton, but only because they are desperate. Not because they actually want a guy like Keon Broxton roaming CF.
  8. Swapping him with Phillips makes sense, but at the same time doesn't. If that was the plan Brinson should never had played. This move seemed pretty orchestrated to happen after Counsell was done talking to reporters, right? Quite the coincidence if so. Trade, injury, matchups, something else? Oh the madness.
  9. Corbin Burnes will be up next when someone graduates. Rosenbaum(one of the voters for said ranking) said Diaz/Burnes were literally back to back ranked. So rest easy Burnes will be a Top 100 prospect.
  10. Yes 0.6 when 2 is league average is way above replacement level. Baseball reference WAR is terrible so of course I don't use it. Even if you average them it has him above replacement level. You said easily. He would need to be approx. 4x better to be league average. He is way closer to replacement level than he is to average.
  11. I mean there are a thousand possibilities. Just throwing out the most likely ones this time of year. #3 is another legit possibility. Could have been concerned about the wet field and getting hurt. If that was the case I don't understand why he ever went out there though.
  12. 0.6 is easily above replacement level? Pretty generous wording I would say. Not to mention it depends on who you use to get your WAR calculations. BR would have him easily below replacement level.
  13. Maybe it's Phillips and Brinson is being recalled? Quite possible. Reports I have seen a pretty confident Brinson wasn't traded and that he wasn't hurt either. Really the only two option then are: #1 One of our current OFers got hurt and it has not been mentioned(oh hey, Braun). #2 One of them is quite possibly close to being traded(likely Phillips).
  14. Ortiz tosses career-high seven innings of one-run baseball in win Shuckers stave off ninth inning comeback bid by Wahoos in series opener By Biloxi Shuckers Luis Ortiz tossed a career-high seven innings of one-run baseball on Tursday night. (Mark P Driscoll) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Biloxi nearly spoiled a dominant Luis Ortiz start, but the Shuckers held on for the 5-4 win. Ortiz started the game going seven strong while striking out seven, walking none, and only giving up one run. The offense was lead by Clint Coulter and Angel Ortega both of which hit homeruns on the day. For Coulter it was his 12th on the season. Things got interesting once the game got turned over to Jorge Lopez in the 9th inning. Lopez had a disasterous inning giving up three runs while looking totally lost. Luckily he stopped the bleeding to preserve the win. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Luis Ortiz (7.0 IP, 4 H, ER, 7 K) started the game while Tayler Scott (1.0 IP) and Jorge Lopez (1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Clint Coulter (2-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) Blake Allemand (2-4, R, RBI) Angel Ortega (1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Jorge Lopez snags liner to save himself. Pensacola Bottom of the 9th Pitching Change: Jorge Lopez replaces Tayler Scott, batting 9th, replacing Wendell Rijo. Blake Trahan walks. Gabriel Guerrero homers (3) on a fly ball to center field. Blake Trahan scores. Nick Senzel strikes out swinging. Gavin LaValley singles on a ground ball to third baseman Javier Betancourt. Josh VanMeter walks. Gavin LaValley to 2nd. Aristides Aquino grounds into a force out, third baseman Javier Betancourt to second baseman Blake Allemand. Gavin LaValley to 3rd. Josh VanMeter out at 2nd. Aristides Aquino to 1st. Shed Long singles on a line drive to center fielder Johnny Davis. Gavin LaValley scores. Aristides Aquino to 3rd. Joe Hudson lines out to pitcher Jorge Lopez.
  15. Absolutely not. Terrible idea. Best case Davies finishes with 120 pitches? Likely more? In a blowout that is just non sense. We never see them as Brewers' fans(CG SO), but we have to be smart here. Settle down. He's fine and he had an extra day off. Moot point now. Pretty calm actually.

  17. I don't love or hate Matt Garza. Sure I am not preaching to trot him out there for big games, but he goes out there and gets the job done. #4 #5 starters are just as important as the guys at the top. Have bad guys in those spots and they are going to kill you and seriously hurt your chances of competing.
  18. How does this prove that? I like DS too, but sometimes I feel like many people are just acting like everything he does is magical.
  19. Most definitely. More minor type moves would be my guess.
  20. Keon Broxton next and just ride Phillips/Brinson from now on?
  21. With the recent cold streak this trade makes me nervous giving up Cordell. Steep price for a relief rental with no track record.
  22. I would trade all three for Gray straight up and not think about it much. Braun has negative value, Broxton is meh, and Brinson is one prospect. If you don't even want Gray just flip him right away and you will look brilliant. Braun's negative value cancels out any positive Broxton value and likely starts eating away at Brinson's positive value.
  23. IF...IF....David Stearns doesn't make any bigger moves it is kind of unfortunate he is more than ok with watching this team slowly fade off into the sunset. It was an extremely fun team to watch, but not improving it at the deadline much? Bummer. I think the guys down in the clubhouse would be effected by it. To what degree I don't know. It would show the GM isn't ready to invest in the team winning now. While that is unfortunate for this years fortunes it is hard to say what it will do to the future. Hopefully those prospects he is holding onto improve and can be traded when we are making an even better run. Only time will tell there. ...that being said a bit early to even be having this conversation.
