  1. it's gonna cost almost 2 million to do this. They must've liked Vogt for awhile. Or really sick of Jett Bandy. Now that Pina has clearly won the starting job they probably prefer a more versatile player that bats on the opposite side of the plate than Pina.
  2. And replace him with a guy that's been just as bad? .227 in his last month. Almost 5x better actually. He also is a bit more versatile and he is another lefty bat to add to the mix on the bench. The move makes quite a bit of sense. Helps he I see a pretty good veteran pretense too. This is a pretty minor change. Not saying Vogt is going to be much of an improvement, but Bandy has been a lost cause for over a month. I won't lose sleep either way. Both have a pretty minor impact. I like the idea of his versatility and the fact he is a lefty. Seems a bit more useful.
  3. Jett Bandy is hitting .048 in the last month. Does it really need to be explained. 2 hits in a month and his defense isn't something special. I understand he is the backup, but that is just putrid.
  4. I am sure they could. Jean Segura had that value despite 2.5 years of terrible performance and only a half season of stardom. Jonathan Villar has had success before coming here and was an offensive force all of last year. Personally I would expect more than what we got for Segura.
  5. Johnny Davis collects four hits in loss to Braves on Saturday Aaron Wilkerson logged another quality start with six innings of one-run baseball By Biloxi Shuckers Johnny Davis had a season-high four hits on Saturday in the 2-1 loss to the M-Braves (Hunter Reed) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Typically thirteen hits, four of which by your leadoff hitter, would mean you scored quite a few runs. TOday was not that day for a Shuckers squad that only mustered one run despite the high hit output. On the mound Aaron Wilkerson had a dominant day going six strong while only giving up a single run. The Shuckers ending up losing 1-2 to Mississippi. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Aaron Wilkerson (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) started the game while Josh Uhen (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and Matt Ramsey (1.0 IP, 2 K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Johnny Davis (4-5, SB) Blake Allemand (2-2, 2B) Jacob Nottingham (1-2, RBI, 2 BB) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log The one and only Biloxi run. Biloxi Bottom of the 6th Biloxi Bottom of the 6th Dustin DeMuth singles on a fly ball to right fielder Connor Lien. Michael Choice singles on a ground ball to second baseman Omar Obregon. Dustin DeMuth to 2nd. Angel Ortega out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Mike Soroka to first baseman Sal Giardina. Dustin DeMuth to 3rd. Michael Choice to 2nd.[/b] Jacob Nottingham singles on a line drive to right fielder Connor Lien. Dustin DeMuth scores. Michael Choice to 3rd. Clint Coulter flies out to right fielder Connor Lien in foul territory. Javier Betancourt flies out to left fielder Keith Curcio.
  6. Shucker had 13 hits.....1 run. Whoops
  7. Domingo Santana's arm is indeed strong...however the accuracy. Terrible.
  8. Domingo Santana is not ok, Broxton is ok until his speed declines, and I like to think Braun is ok as a LFer though he has slowed down a touch.
  9. That would be a risky endeavor trying to acquire him. He was pretty bad last year as a reliever and this year he has been good, but not great in a small sample size. Having a lot of control I just have a hard time seeing the Tigers sell low because he lacks any sort of track record. I don't think it would take a whole lot to acquire him, but at the same time I don't see the Tigers accepting a deal at what he is worth right now. If his stats stay near what they are now for the remainder of his control acquiring him now you probably get a steal of a deal. That being said it is quite possible he flops as a pitcher and can't consistently be this dominant.
  10. Burnes carries Biloxi to 2-0 win over Mississippi Corbin Burnes tosses a four-hit shutout By Biloxi Shuckers Corbin Burnes Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: The Biloxi Shuckers only scored 2 run in the first game of a doubleheader, but with Corbin Burnes on the mound that was twice as many as they needed. Burnes dominated Mississippi striking out seven batters while giving up zero runs. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Corbin Burnes (7.0 IP, 4 H, BB, 7 K) pitched the entire seven inning game. Hitting Summary: Mauricio Dubon (1-3, R) Michael Choice (2-3, 2B, RBI) Clint Coulter (1-2, RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Jacob Nottingham throws out Acuna. Nottingham boosts an impressive 41% caught stealing percentage for 2017 Mississippi Top of the 6th Luis Valenzuela flies out to right fielder Michael Choice. Ronald Acuna singles on a line drive to center fielder Johnny Davis. Travis Demeritte flies out to center fielder Johnny Davis. With Joey Meneses batting, Ronald Acuna caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Jacob Nottingham to second baseman Mauricio Dubon.
  11. It is too soon to even think about throwing around the idea. The rotation has been solid and I don't think that would dramatically change any time soon. Next summer is possible, maybe a long stretch possibility of opening day.
  12. 4 starts at AA...pump the breaks.
  13. Maybe because Keon Broxton was absolutely terrible for well over a month and his defense left a lot to be desired. I haven't seen much clamoronf to bench him of late.
  14. I would rather sell high on Sogard vs. trading Villar at this point in time. For what it is worth I wouldn't trade either. After this year Sogard is gone. Resigning a player who has done little to nothing his entire career only to have a good couple hundred ABs sounds very unwise. Jonathan Villar likely skates into next season as the starting 2B unless things change drastically and a good opportunity presents itself. His value is so low I just can't fathom trading him away.
  15. I don't think Arcia is going to add any power. What he has is already there. He just doesn't tap into it all due to poor pitch selection etc. causing too much poor contact. I think he naturally improves to create more solid contact thus more power results. What I don't see is him filling out his frame and adding power that way. It would not only take away from his defense, but a guy almost the same(Alcides Escobar) didn't do it himself so I doubt Arcia adds a bunch of muscle either. Orlando is and always will be a lean dude, in my opinion.
  16. Orlando Arcia has OPSed .760 in the last month. If he can find a way for that to stick he is a solid player and I don't think anyone will replace him. He will have to find a way to discover more power because the .311 average over the last month won't stick the way his approach is. I think he will become a solid .750 OPS hitter someday. Now if he starts stinking up the joint for a couple months straight I might then start to limit his playing time if we are still competing. That being said hard to leave his defense on the bench and not give him the chances to better his offense. Right now he is playing really well and I hope it continues.
  17. Wow. Really? I have a feeling if any SS in baseball not named Yuni made that play, that thought would never have crossed your mind. I'm not sure how any SS is able to step on the base himself on that one. I am with it you. No one could have possibly stepped on 2nd themselves there. Even the fastest and rangiest SS in history wouldn't have been able to touch 2nd. You would have to stop your momentum, run back to 2nd, and then throw. Both players would have been safe by a mile.
  18. I haven't watched him a lot this year, but from what I have seen from last year and read his stuff isn't anything special. His stats are obviously pretty flashy this year, but not sure if that is because of vast improvements from what was seen last year. Always seemed like a back end starter in my eyes or a reliever.
  19. This means a lot. He just broke a record held by Aroldis Chapman. One of the elite relievers in recent memory with incredible K numbers. It also means every single outing he is bringing elite stuff that even when he is off 33% or more of batters still struggling to even make contact with his stuff. His ERA is now under 1.00 and the Ks are a big reasons. I mean we aren't going to print shirts and remember this for years(ok maybe the Brewers will), but it has a lot of significance for other reasons.
  20. A very costly thing he does often. It doesn't show up in value based stats, but such short ABs really hurt the team. Someone else in recent memory was prone to short ABs too. Someone mentioned in another thread the high pitch counts Knebel racks up and that is another costly thing that many don't notice. If it costs him a few outings every month that can translate into an extra loss or more because someone lesser has to pitch because he needs rest. That or he gets fatigued and pitches worse. I remember Yuni never seeing a lot of pitches. Also, I don't buy the Knebel thing. He is averaging less than 18 pitches per inning. Someone pulled up the stats and Knebel throw the second most pitches for a closer. Not saying 18 is terrible, but it is up there for an ever age. Yum was the worst. Not only did he swing first pitch, but he popped it up what felt like once a game at least.
  21. Gotta think he sticks with mostly Sogard, but still gives Villar a good amount of starts. I'd say let Villar have some SS time too, but Arcia has stepped it up in recent weeks.

  23. Poor AB by Arcia. A hitter who is very oppo field dependent and can't pull that ball should not be swinging at anything inside on the first pitch. If it isn't your perfect pitch let it go my man and wait for the next one.
  24. Quite possibly... One of my all time favs. This one is up there too: http://m.mlb.com/video/v18042015/ladmil-brewers-turn-a-triple-play-in-the-second
