  1. approx. $100k I think they gave their 9th round senior sign last year $25k. Can write down another for the 10th round too. That is basically what all teams start doing in the second half of the first 10 rounds. If you look there was a single high schooler drafted in the 9th round(8 since the start of the 6th round). It is all guys they can get for at slot or under slot. It probably isn't a big deal regardless. I doubt it takes that much extra to bring in Lutz and as mentioned the Brewers already know what they need to bring him in.
  2. Jayson Rose=Zach Davies...except a little heavier
  3. Probably a bullpen guy. At least that is what comes to mind when I look at him overall. Really? Even if he does have three real pitches? He just gives off that vibe to me. Probably because that is usually where one would see a sinkerballer pitcher. Also fits the profile of a workhorse at 6-5 235. In all honestly you could say every pitcher we draft is probably a bullpen guy because most will be. That is how it works.

  5. I guess I am a little surprised that is the best pool saver we could find.
  6. I'm going to assume you're correct and it's a money saving move. Must have an idea of what it'll take to get him. Otherwise, this one doesn't seem to make a ton of sense. I guess it really isn't even a question because it will save money. He is a severely limitted ceiling guy so going back for his senior year will just make him a senior sign next year. Not like he is going to increase his stock at this point.
  7. He isn't a senior, but seems like an attempt to save some pool money. If not I really don't like it. His defense isn't that good and his offensive game is extremely limitted. Why draft a utility player Top 10 rounds?
  8. I have watched him and he has not located his pitches well. Every time I watched him he couldn't locate any of his pitches, but notably his off speed stuff. He constantly had to use his fastball to just blow past hitters. Even his best games were masked by the fact AAA hitters couldn't hit his fastball. Won't work consistently at the MLB level and definitely not as a starter. You can take everything and throw it out the window if you want. Clearly the Brewers don't like Hader as a starter as much as Woodruff this year. The Brewers wouldn't punish Hader for working on pitches so it is more than that. I also don't believe he was ever working on pitches that heavily in Colorado. If that was the case they would promote him to the MLB roster where he can't do that.
  9. Slowing it down it doesn't look that bad. Real time it looks horrid because he is swinging at bad pitches which obviously doesn't bring out the best swing in you.

  11. Well sure but the single scouting report that he put up was a single sentence that only praises the player while leaving out the part that actually has legitimate concerns about the player. Why not just put the whole thing up instead of just the sunshine and puppies part? I mentioned he looked like a ton of work. I don't particularily like to post word for word the negatives because those tend to vary a lot more. For instance the debacle with Hiura. One quote and suddenly he has no defensive home and can't play 2nd base. Which was not the most accurate. Not to mention it is the 5th round. At this point most players are covered in mud with a little shiney spot on them. I find this thread to be more reactionary and not after a ton of research is done. So it makes sense to hit on the things that made us draft him (his power). Not saying you don't mention the downsides I just decided not to do it word for word.
  12. Egnatuk, Nick Immaculata HS 3B R/R HS "A high school infielder, Egnatuk wows scouts in batting practice with 60-grade raw power" MLB.com Sounds like a piece of work though so don't expect to see him any time soon. Drafted for the power.
  13. Bit of a brain fart on my part. For a second I was thinking one could offer a portion of slot and even if the player rejected keep the slot money for their pool. Which is definitely not the case and the Brewers definitely would not want to be blowing 4th round slot money down the toilet. I was in "saving pool money" mindset in the wrong situation. 5 hours of sleep already showin its worth today.
  14. A draft expert once told me on twitter to always expect players drafted on day 1 and day 2 to sign. I tend to argree, but he is a lefty. Doesn't take much for him to shoot up and be a first rounder. Pretty projectable lefty who will grow a lot in the next three years. Though in my financial opinion you are probably better off taking the half mil now and getting a 3 year head start on your career. I don't usually agree with players who can get drafted in the first 5 rounds, but opt to pursue their college career.
  15. A GM doesn't care about prospect rankings. Josh Hader has sucked this year and has shown little control. He is a big boy and needs to prove he actually deserves a shot. Brandon Woodruff plays in the same conditions and has been way better. Hader didn't deserve to get a start.
  16. Brendan Murphy a local kid. Not far across the border to the south. Not sure on the signability though. If he does sign great get in my opinion.
  17. That isn't really true. It is more no one really knows if he can or not because he hasn't played there that much since his freshman year. What's the likelihood that he'll stick behind the plate if he was moved from Catcher in college? (not flaming, asking seriously for your thoughts, I know almost nothing about him). It is a Kyle Schwarber type situation. You are going to give him a chance and I am sure the Brewers will be patient with him as long as the defense is promising. That being said if he is just mashing away you probably abort him catching if it isn't coming along fast enough and find a spot for him elsewhere. If that happens you won't even care that he isn't catching because he is hitting that well.
  18. I think when it was orginally said he didn't have a defensive position was a bit off the mark. Everything I have read today says there is no concern about playing 2B.
  19. That isn't really true. It is more no one really knows if he can or not because he hasn't played there that much since his freshman year.
  20. He was the 76th rated player (MLB.com's ratings) picked at #84. So that doesn't seem like a need pick (i.e. reach) Baseball America had him at #68
  21. In my opinion Brandon Woodruff is not going to the pen no matter how terrible it may be. Woodruff is likely the Brewers go to guy if a starter goes down long term. They are going to want to keep him stretched out and continue to work as a starter. Hader is in the pen because he has little control. Woodruff has shown adequate control even having to pitch in Colorado. Hader wasn't converted to the bullpen just because we needed help there. It was much more than that. Ever since Hader went to the pen people have been wondering why we won't just do the same to Woodruff. Woodruff has looked much more like a starter than Hader. That is why he isn't in the pen and likely won't be.
  22. I don't have a problem with any of the Brewers picks really. Hiura seems like a legit bat, but if he can't stay at second probably not going to live up to his draft spot. I actually really like Lutz. He is a toolsy outfielder with a lot of potential. Honestly he is the type of guy who in 3 years of college ball could be in the mix for Top 10 talk. You will find a lot of Top 10 college bats were ranked 25-100 coming out of high school. It is an attempt to grasp a budding high school guy before he could potentially sky rocket after college. Now when it comes to Lemon I think a lot of people are selling him short. We are talking about a high school kid who is touching 97. He isn't that big and adding to his build will add to that. We could be talking about a guy in the mid 90s consistently hitting 100mph on gun(or close). Not huge on his off speed stuff, but that can improve with time. The guy has really good potential. Ace? Probably not, but I could tell you that about every pitcher in the draft outside of a few handful that were gone in the first half of the draft.
  23. All projection. With that body he could add 5mph easy.
  24. But if OFs are easy to come by, what demand will there be? Econ 101 - price is a function of supply and demand. If supply is really high... demand needs to be really high, otherwise price will below. You have three outfielders, but only one at each other position. So there is your demand.
  25. Zero concern over signing Tristan. They wouldn't pick him if they didn't think they could sign him. Not worried one bit there.
