  1. Josh Hader's control has never been good. Like many other pitchers with really good stuff he could just blow it past hitters. If you watch his starts he can still blow past hitters at AAA with his fastball. His control issues throughout his career haven't been walk issues, but actually spotting his pitches in the zone. It is concerning because at the MLB level there won't be lineups filled with guys who you can blow fastballs by 3 times a game. You have to learn how to spot it in the zone and not give it right over the plate.
  2. While the Brewers won't admit it I think this is a sign of what his future probably holds. If the Brewers were confident he could be a starter they wouldn't put him in a bullpen role at the start of June in my opinion. He isn't in our bullpen to limit innings. If he pitches well he will be in the bullpen all year and maybe break 100innings if we aggressively use him in a 2 inning role a lot. If we aren't increasing his innings this year(actually lessening them) I would be concerned about his future as a starter. I am sure they try him as a starter going into next year, but I just question how much they truly think he can start long term.
  3. The main concern I have with making bigger moves is the fact I don't want to be making moves if I might end up with a wild card spot. Right now we are on pace for 86 wins. While not bad that isn't what I would call a division winner type squad. Maybe the Cubs really aren't that good and a high 80 win total can take the division, but I would rather not make moves unless this is a 90+ win talent team. With some bullpen help(already started by adding Hader) I think it could be. Obviously Stearns is already trying to make that happen by adding Hader and promoting another top prospect in Phillips. If I was Broxton I would be getting real nervous about my starting job because I doesn't look like the Brewers are too scared to improve internally already. One guy who might be a cheaper bullpen addition would be David Robertson. He might not be super cheap, but he is a rental with a $13mil contract. Absorb whatever will be left on that and we probably aren't going to be giving up a ton prospect wise. Though he would take enough where this team better be looking a lot better than a 86 win club.
  4. Wilkerson, Shuckers take down Shrimp in series opener All-Star Aaron Wilkerson matched a career high with 11 strikeouts in the win By Biloxi Shuckers Aaron Wilkerson has tossed at least 6.2 innings in each of his last five starts (Hunter Reed) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Aaton Wilkerson threw another gem today throwing 7.2 inning with zero walks and a ridiculous 11 Ks. The offense was rolling today scoring 6 runs including two Clint Coulter homers and a solo shot by Blake Allemand. The Shuckers won 6-2. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Aaron Wilkerson (7.2 IP, 3 H, ER, 11 K) started the game while Nick Ramirez (1.1 IP, H) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Clint Coulter (2-4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI) Jacob Nottingham (2-4, 2 R, 2B) Blake Allemand (1-4, 1 R, HR, RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Biloxi Bottom of the 4th Clint Coulter homers (7) on a fly ball to center field. Javier Betancourt strikes out swinging. Aaron Wilkerson grounds out, shortstop Chris Diaz to first baseman Taylor Ard. Johnny Davis strikes out swinging, catcher Cam Maron to first baseman Taylor Ard.
  5. Never a known thing until after the season, but yes we should be in the clear.
  6. Alright I am not really sure what you are talking about. The Brewers simply said he was only going a few innings a start to control his inning count for the year. They mentioned nothing about a move to the bullpen and actually stated they were not going to do that. On top of that they said his next start would be back to normal starting innings. Josh Hader was clearly being prepped to move in a bullpen role despite what the Brewers said at the time. I am surprised he is coming over to our bullpen so fast, but It was clear it was going to happen. Why are you talking about moving Hader to the bullpen forever? I never said such a thing. I cited his BB/9 because it is terrible. Someone asked "Why not Woodruff?"....Woodruff has pitched much better this year and I would expect him to be a legitimate consideration for a starter spot at some point this year if need be. Josh Hader on the other hand has been notably worse. They aren't going to put Woodruff in the pen for that reason.
  7. I think the downplay was in regard to him permanently being in the pen, which is what most people were assuming. No they were definitely downplaying it as anything related to the bullpen. They claimed it was to "limit his innings". I said it then it didn't make any sense.
  8. Because he doesn't walk 5.5 batters a game like the guy who was just sent to the bullpen.
  9. Your long term answer would be Phillips for Broxton I would imagine. When I mean long term I am not talking long long term, but who would take his spot for the time being. Phillips got the nod over Brinson now so I imagine he would be the first.
  10. The Cubs rotation is an absolute hot mess and old. This Cubs team may not be all that special and it would not be shocking to see them continue to dissapoint given the age of that rotation.
  11. Not surprised even though the Brewers downplayed this lately and I agree with the move 110%
  12. 1.9 Jaren Kendall Sorry to say, but I think the Brewers go OFer again even more so with the board we picked...Kendall or Adell. Jaren Kendall has the chance to be similar to prime Carlos Gomez. Adell has an incredible ceiling, but also a massive risk. If they opt to underslot then I figure a pitcher is the guy.
  13. Yawn...do you not see the bullpen on a regular basis throwing games away? We should be up like 6-7 games in the division. Until Stearns does something to remedy that horrific situation there is no point to even bringing Brinson up to "help compete." Broxton is basically a light version of Carlos Gomez. He will carry you for stretches, and then kill you for others. Not everybody can hit for entire seasons unless you are truly elite. You don't need to hit all year long either if you play great CF defense, Byron Buxton is a good example. I am sorry, but I don't agree with that comparison at all. You may feel Gomez was streaky, but in reality he was not. In the the 2012-2014 period his monthly average never dipped below .240(other stats were pretty consistent too). I understand on a weekly basis that may be different, but what player isn't streaky like that? Also Keon Broxton is nothing even remotely close to Carlos Gomez defensively. While a Gomez or Buxton have defense to carry their value through long slumps Broxton does not. He does not have GG defense and never will.
  14. Shuckers drop series finale to M-Braves Biloxi heads home with a 31-29 record after 60 games By Biloxi Shuckers . Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Luis Ortiz threw 4 innings giving up just one hit though it was a lot of work taking 74 pitches to do so. Despite the trio of pitchers only giving up one run combined the offense mustered nothing on the day to lose 1-0. The Shuckers had no extra base hits on the day and only mustered one walk. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Luis Ortiz (4 IP, H, 3 K, 2 BB) started the game while Javier Salas (2.1 IP, H, ER, 2 K, BB) and Wuilder Rodriguez (1.2 IP, 1 H, 4 K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Johnny Davis (2-4) Mauricio Dubon (2-4, SB) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Mississippi Bottom of the 7th Levi Hyams pops out to shortstop Mauricio Dubon. Kade Scivicque doubles (7) on a sharp fly ball to left fielder Clint Coulter. Defensive Substitution: Art Charles Jr. replaces pitcher Javier Salas, batting 9th, playing first base. Pitching Change: Wuilder Rodriguez replaces Javier Salas, batting 6th. Connor Lien strikes out swinging. Dylan Moore doubles (5) on a sharp fly ball to left fielder Clint Coulter. Kade Scivicque scores. Reed Harper strikes out swinging.
  15. What makes you think Corey Ray isn't going to do well? Thats a pretty odd take Well I didn't say that. I said currently not future. Also I don't agree that he isn't doing well that is what one of the above posters hinted at saying it vindicated him of hating the pick.
  16. One could dream.
  17. My thoughts exactly! Came on here to say the same thing. I don't understand why they insist on multiple innings from him. Of course today that made sense with the short start, but they do it all the time. Why bother making him the long man?
  18. Corbin Burnes seems like a really good #3 starter. You could label him a #2 ceiling guy, but it would take amazing control to put up those kind of stats over the long run of a season.
  19. I don't think not wanting an OFer allows you to feel vindicated when Corey Ray doesn't do well. You didn't want him purely on his position...not his actual skill set.
  20. Jared Hughes to the rescue. He has looked really good the last few times out. People are quick to forget he was really good for multiple years prior to 2017. I wouldn't be surprised if he figured it out and he will become another dependable guy in the pen. Tyler Cravy should get a call soon. He did pretty well last year in his relief stint.
  21. Veteran usually means experienced guy with a track record. Junior Guerra has 24 career starts. He could still work, but some wishful thinking to expect Rodgers as a return.
  22. I have a really hard time getting on board with any OF pick at our spot. Austin Beck would be a fine choice, but after that I don't know. If given the choice I would actually take Jeren Kendall next over Jordan Adell. Jaren Kendall seems like a much safer pick if you want a questionable guy with a higher ceiling. Jaren Kendall is such a tease prospect. The tools are great, but the K rate and the fact after 3 years at college he still doesn't play great defense scares me that he won't hit enough to be an All-Star type bat and won't live up to the defensive ceiling scouts think he has.
  23. If THIS is what you're referring to, it sounds as though he just cares and wants to rebound. Good for him. I don't understand why there always has to be one player on this team that everyone has to be so negative about when it comes to just about anything. I am not referring to Rick's comment alone, but in a general sense. Can't people ever hope he improves or get happy when he has a nice game? Nope just complete silence when he does something good and the comments come out of the woodworks when he does something bad. I could understand all the negativity if we was lazy or acted like he didn't care, but jesh Villar goes out there every day 100%.
