  1. Called this type of pick. If the Brewers wanted a promising high ceiling outfielder it would make sense to do it at #34 not at #9.
  2. Goes both ways. You hide the starter so will every other team against you. No point.
  3. Couple more thoughts: 1) I am not really a fan of drafting a high school bat #9. It sounds like there are some toolsy ones to be had with our other Top 50 picks. Unless one really feels confident a Beck/Adell can be a super star it might be better to wait. 2) It will be interesting to see where Pavin Smith is taken and how he does in the coming years. Seems like most on the forum either hates him or loves him.
  4. I think a few deals get done in the first 8 picks to give us a large group of players to pick from. With that I really doubt the Brewers pick a guy for underslot reasons. They have always been connected to Beck and I think he might fall to them. If not him Faedo really impressed the other day and I could easily seen him as another main option that they have been connected to a lot. I really don't buy the Adell connection. Right now I think Faedo.
  5. Shrimp win second straight over Shuckers on Sunday Biloxi drops to 4.0 games back of Pensacola with seven to play By Biloxi Shuckers Javi Salas tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief on Sunday (Hunter Reed) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: The Shuckers had 3 hits offensively and gave up 13 runs. A really bad day is the only way to put this one. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Angel Ventura (2.1 IP, 2 H, 7 ER, 6 BB, 2 K) started the game while Wuilder Rodriguez (4.0 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and Javier Salas (2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 BB) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Mauricio Dubon (1-1, 2B, 1 R) Blake Allemand (1-4, 2B, RBI) Angel Ortega (1-3) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Biloxi Bottom of the 1st Biloxi Bottom of the 1st Mauricio Dubon doubles (14) on a line drive to right fielder John Norwood. Blake Allemand doubles (10) on a line drive to left fielder Jeremias Pineda. Mauricio Dubon scores. Javier Betancourt flies into a double play, left fielder Jeremias Pineda to third baseman Brian Anderson. Blake Allemand out at 3rd. Michael Choice walks. Jacob Nottingham pops out to catcher Austin Nola in foul territory.
  6. Good chance they are waiting on Woodruff for the potential need in the rotation. Woodruff has been, for the most part, solid this year while Hader has been the opposite.
  7. I'd be interested to see how Perez grades out compared to Shaw at 3B. No technical numbers here, but Perez has notably more range and commits less errors. No knock on Shaw who is a decent fielder himself.
  8. And I will mention I am not hating on Arcia. I am just pointing out while his average might be shiny in a small sample size it really doesn't mean a whole lot. He has time to improve and become a solid player, but the offensive game definitely needs to improve in multiple areas. At worst you have something like Alcides Escobar and at best something approaching Simmons. Probably ends up in between those two.
  9. Correct on both accounts, but with his defense, I'll take the .347 BA he's had the past 3 weeks even if it's empty. Since May 18th: .347/.367/.400/.767 in 75 ABs Has at least one hit in 17 of his 18 starts in that span, but only four doubles accounting for his extra base hits and has only drawn two walks Which is great if you really think he can hit for that high of an average consistently. However I am not so sure that is realistic. With his lack of power/XBHs he would need to hit over .300 to be a decent hitter. If not he really isn't that valuable or irreplaceable. My main concern is how easy he is to pitch to and his lack of power or plate discipline makes him easy pickings for opposing pitchers. He can't hit anything inside or up in the zone. While he is preached for going opposite field that same compliment is an insult. The reality of it is he can't pull it to save his life. He hits .200 to the pull side and approx. .375 to center-oppo. Pitchers constantly get it in on his hands or throw off-speed stuff for week pull side grounders.
  10. I'd say Orlando Arcia is overlooked lately if it was more than his average. Total empty average, no power.
  11. Looked a little flustered...but watching him in Colorado Springs you see some of the same control issues. Hopefully he just needs to adjust to life outside of Colorado Springs.
  12. Couple takeaways from the Shuckers game: -Jorge Lopez finally had a good start. Lopez had a strong start to his AA season, but absolutely tanked his last 6 or so games. Hopefully it is a sign of something a bit better. -Mauricio Dubon commited his 12th error of the season. In 48 games at SS he has commited 11 of those. Calculate over 150 games and.....yikes. On the bright side in his 109 innings at 2B he has only commited 1 error. -In my short stint of link reports I have wanted to feature a three strikeout inning and Jorge Lopez finally came through. To finish his night of all times. So thanks Lopez!
  13. Lopez returns to form, but Shuckers fall to Shrimp on Saturday Jorge Lopez struck out 10 Jacksonville batters over 7.0 innings By Biloxi Shuckers Jorge Lopez logged a season-high 7.0 innings on Saturday night and matched a career high with 10 strikeouts (Hunter Reed) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: After two innings it looked like the another hideous start was on its way from Jorge Lopez, but Lopez kept his composure to go seven strong innings giving up only two runs while striking out 10 Jumbo Shrimp. Unfortunately the offense only mustered two runs on six hits. None of which were of the extra base variety and no player had multiple hits. In the end the Shuckers lost 5-2. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Jorge Lopez (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K) started the game while Tayler Scott (2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, ER, 2 BB, 3 K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Michael Choice (1-4, 2 R) Clint Coulter (1-3, RBI, BB) Dustin Houle (1-4, RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Jorge Lopez finishes dominant start Jacksonville Top of the 7th Taylor Ard strikes out swinging. Chris Diaz strikes out swinging. Joe Gunkel called out on strikes.
  14. I know a lot of coaches preach not swinging at off-speed pitches on the first pitch. Or as the other poster said most batters pitch a pitch/+location and if it isn't there they won't swing.
  15. We're your college days pre BBCOR or post BBCOR. Because if prior your experience wouldn't be as legitimate as it is now. Metal bats still trump wooden bats, but not as much as they used to. What is the reason college don't opt for wooden? Cost I would imagine?
  16. Brewers playing for a chance to go up 3 games in the division. All the other NL Central teams are below .500. Rest of the division has been scuffling pretty badly lately.
  17. The way he has played the bench looks real nice for Broxton
  18. I also like Faedo, Bukauskas, and Baz. If I had to rate I would go: Faedo Baz Bukauskas Hall I really like Baz, but I just have a hard time drafting a HS pitcher Top 10. I would take Faedo preferably.
