  1. He's posted a positive WAR every year (2013-2017) he's been in the league and he's still just 27. You simply don't just waive guys like that and he's proving this season he's got the versatility to be a utility player too. There's something to be said about performing to a respectable level year in and year out, and Gennett's done just that. What is he on pace for(ignoring a one night performance)? 1-1.5 WAR? Hernan Perez already has that this year. What exactly are we missing out on? He isn't versatile either. Maybe he is if you like poor defense at 3B or LF, but no thanks. Once again we have Hernan Perez who is better and even more versatile. You are mad we didn't give $2.5mil to someone who would never play.
  2. Made the right call only because we traded him. If he was still here poor dude would probably still be terrible.
  3. I knew Briggs would say something(and he did though I believe it was deleted) and looking at his stats...before they get inflated by a single game: .308 OBP 97 OPS+ .4 WAR I don't get why he acts like we are missing out on something great and made some horrific decision to let him go. Even if Scooter Gennett was here he still wouldn't start over Hernan Perez. Heck give me a redo button and I still prefer Villar over Gennett long term.
  4. Final: Biloxi 7, Mississippi 1 Ventura, Allemand lead Shuckers to win over Braves Angel Ventura delivered his sixth-straight quality start and Blake Allemand had Biloxi's first four-hit game of 2017 By Biloxi Shuckers Angel Ventura tossed a season-high seven innings on Tuesday night in Pearl (BENTON REED) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: After mentioning the quietly nice season Blake Allemand has been putting together he smacked 4 hits today including 3 doubles. The impressive day at the plate pushed his average to .305 on the year. On the mound Angel Ventura threw an impressive 7 innings while just allowing a single run to help power the Shuckers to a 7-1 win over Mississippi. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Angel Ventura (7 IP, 3 H, ER, 6 K, BB) started the game while Nick Ramirez (2 IP, 3 H) provided relief. Hitting Summary: Blake Allemand (4-4, 3 2B, 3 RBI 2 R, BB) Jacob Nottingham (2-5, 2B, RBI) Michael Choice (1-4, 2B, R, RBI Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Biloxi Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Michael Mader replaces Rex Brothers, batting 9th, replacing Jared James. Blake Allemand doubles (9) on a fly ball to left fielder Ronald Acuna. Michael Choice doubles (5) on a fly ball to right fielder Keith Curcio. Blake Allemand scores. Jacob Nottingham doubles (12) on a sharp line drive to left fielder Ronald Acuna. Michael Choice scores. Dustin DeMuth called out on strikes. Clint Coulter reaches on a fielder's choice out, shortstop Dylan Moore to third baseman Travis Demeritte to second baseman Levi Hyams to shortstop Dylan Moore. Jacob Nottingham out at 3rd. Angel Ortega grounds out softly, shortstop Dylan Moore to first baseman Joey Meneses.
  5. Interesting as his arm was never regarded as that impressive. His defense leaves a lot to be desired from the eye test though.
  6. Think I would give that title to Junior Guerra...however Anderson has been a pleasant success of late. I actually remember a lot of people disliking the Anderson acquisition when it went down.
  7. I would rather use them to acquire a +4 WAR pitcher than trade them for a +2 WAR OFer(Yelich 4 WAR replacing a 2 WAR guy). Why not incredibly increase a position than to marginally improve one? Sounds like a poor use of resources.
  8. His walks/strikeouts both went down compared to April, but so did his power. Overall it was still pretty terrible production. Nothing really to get excited about.
  9. I always heard it was a dump. Not sure how much charm there is honestly. Never personally went there though.
  10. Brett Phillips got so much attention from fans because of the laugh and the fact teams are way better at notifying fans of prospects these days. Anyone can understand a prospect ranking etc. and every night they feature MiLB tidbits during the games.
  11. OF NOTE: Blake Allemand has been on fire recently. The 5-10 middle infielder drafted out of Texas A&M in the 5th round now boosts a .287 average. His home/road splits are pretty extreme, but maybe an under the radar guy to keep an eye one. Could be an eventual utility guy.
  12. Derby, Shuckers fall short in pitchers' duel to Braves Bubba Derby took a no-hitter in the seventh on Monday night By Biloxi Shuckers Bubba Derby took a no-hitter 6.2 innings on Monday night (BENTON REED) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: It was a marvelous day on the mound for Bubba Derby who took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Unfortunately with two outs things fell apart and after giving up a run was saddled with the loss. If that doesn't explain the night for the offense enough they only mustered 2 runs in the 9th in the 2-4 loss. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Bubba Derby (6.2 IP, 3 H, ER, 9 K) started the game while Tayler Scott (0.1, BB, K) and Josh Uhen (1.0, 3 ER, 2 H, BB, K) provided relief. Hitting Summary: Blake Allemand (2-4, R) Dustin DeMuth (1-4, 2B, 2 RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Mississippi Bottom of the 7th Ronald Acuna pops out to second baseman Wendell Rijo. Travis Demeritte strikes out swinging. Joey Meneses singles on a ground ball to center fielder Johnny Davis. *Derby gives up first hit of game* Levi Hyams singles on a line drive to right fielder Clint Coulter. Joey Meneses to 3rd. Pitching Change: Tayler Scott replaces Bubba Derby, batting 9th. Connor Lien singles on a ground ball to left fielder Blake Allemand. Joey Meneses scores. Levi Hyams to 2nd. Dylan Moore walks. Levi Hyams to 3rd. Connor Lien to 2nd. Kade Scivicque strikes out swinging.
  13. Saying he wasn't the center piece was reference to his value being perceived less than that of Mauricio Dubon. Comparing Hader/Santana to Phillips(a #30ish) prospect at the time would be an inaccurate comparison.
  14. If you are struggling and can go 5 innings of 2 run ball that is quite the feat in my book. Nice fight for Guerra.
  15. However, incredibly expensive to acquire. I don't really want to package Brinson/Woodruff/Clark or whatever to acquire an OFer who maybe is worth 1-2 WAR(maybe nothing more) more than one of our 500k options.
  16. Ridiculous pitching duel at AA right now. Derby throwing a perfect game through five and his opposition is through 5 with one hit.
  17. Haha actually I didn't assume anything so calm down. First off nothing in that interview said they thought highly of him. It mentions a few things they liked about him. I remember earlier on it was mentioned the Brewers actually didn't even bring up Travis Shaw in trade talks it was the Boston Red Sox. It was also mentioned Travis Shaw wasn't the main piece in the deal it was Mauricio Dubon. I am sure the Brewers liked him, but I don't think the Brewers could have ever imagined a guy on his way to a 3 WAR season. Sounded more like maybe he could be a starter if given the chance, but probably a versatile bench bat.
  18. Sure that may be true. I never said anything about someone taking Arcia's spot or anything. Actually I said I would be starting him. I just refuted the point that he has been playing well...which to me is not very accurate.
  19. This is just flat out wrong. I know you hate his bat but you should probably check stats before you assume. He's been slowly progressing this season and hitting pretty well for about a month now. Arcia getting days off is much like Domingo and Broxton last season. I trust CC to know what he's doing with these guys. Flat out wrong? I think not. Maybe he has done marginally better in the average department, but that means little to me in a small sample. That could simply be just having more balls poke through. He still has zero power. He had what...3 XBHs last month? To say he is playing well because when his OPS went from .650 to .690(year/last 14 days) is pretty generous.
  20. Yah this trade really wasn't that bad for the Red Sox at face value. Dubon was a solid prospect on the rise it seemed, Pennington was an injured pitcher, Coca is unknown/years away, and Shaw wasn't considered much of anything. Heck even the Brewers didn't think much of Shaw when they took him. Give this trade some time and I doubt it looks like such highway robbery. Travis Shaw regresses and Thornburg returns to a close to elite reliever it will be a pretty fair trade. I won't be sad if the Brewers make this type of trade down the line to bring in a legit reliever. Of course I hope that hypothetical guy doesn't get injured right away blaming what we do in spring training did it to him.
  21. 1) I think you are way overthinking that..way overthinking. Brett Phillips is just thankful to be in the line-up and probably expects to be in the #8 spot. 2) Orlando Arcia hasn't been hitting well lately. Just as bad as the rest of the year. I would still start him, but meh. On another note I almost went tonight because I have seen Jeffy pitch twice at Miller Park and he got absolutely wrecked both times. If he pitches well I apologize in advance for missing and causing it.
