  1. So basically Justin Turner, who undoubtly has been better than Braun over the past three years(playing a more premium position), didn't get what Ryan Braun's contract calls for...however the contract is not an potential obstacle. Interesting.
  2. Easily? I mean I guess in the sense of he has a 50/50 shot like any player. Nothing really hints at him being an ace though. Lot of room for improvement though...could be a lower-ish 3 ERA guy. What are you hoping for the next Kyle Hendricks? I guess it is possible.
  3. They're grown men, they're not forced to do anything. Right they could not do it and then be harrassed even more. There are things that are mostly acceptable and then there is the flat out wrong. Wear a pink backpack to the bullpen, ok. Making one dress up as a woman....mmmm. Yah idk.
  4. Someone hit on it, but people need to remember there is a pretty good chance one of these said players probably already exists within the system. We have elite prospects and a bunch of them could end up being franchise players. Not to mention due to the incredible depth the odds we have a Jonathan Lucroy hiding in there somewhere or maybe multiple guys who will exceed what we think they could be. Just as players underachieve many surprise. When it comes to prospects it never will look like we have one because they have so many apparent flaws(even those in the Top 10) we are afraid to say they can reach their ceiling. There are great players in our system right now. Yes ones that can put up 5 WAR years...wait and see.
  5. Good thing scouts aren't always right. Actually they probably are more wrong than right.
  6. I think he would consier trades to other teams, but a lot of the teams are definitely a big "no". The Braves inquired on a trade and it sounds like Braun squashed it before they really even talked specifics(in July). On the other hand his no trade list has changed every year(not fully) so I would say some teams on the no trade list could be considered. Though I would say he is probably pretty strict on his demands and depends on the situation. On another note I don't think "being quiet" has anything to do with the GM. Rumors come from within from other lesser front office people(sometimes scouts/agents.etc.). It speaks more about the internal policy being held up and hiring the right(quiet) people. It was the same way with Doug Melvin as GM.
  7. I actually use baseball cube frequently. It is really good for college baseball stats.
  8. I don't mean to ruin it buuuuuuut...find another way than drafting Top 5 because that is not going to happen for a long time. We are #9 this year and the team is going to vastly improve moving forward.
  9. Teams don't tank in baseball so throw that theory right out the window. It does not exist period. Buster Olney's witch hunt started this, but you could argue what Preller is doing resembles a "tank". He certainly isn't trying to win. Preller doesn't know how to do anything. If he tried to tank they would probably win 90 games. The whole tanking thing is just not right though. Teams are not getting rid of players or bringing in players hoping to lose. Teams just trade MLB veterans in favor of younger guys who might help them down the road when they hope to be good. This isn't basketball where a team signs a bunch of garbage players and sit good players for unreasonably long amounts of time in games. Basketball is the only sport where teams truly try to lose games.
  10. Teams don't tank in baseball so throw that theory right out the window. It does not exist period.
  11. You are assuming someone would actually give up a prospect for him. Regardless even if that was possible I would probably still take the 500k as the prospect would be garbage.
  12. Save money....basically. Glad it opens up the door for Susac
  13. I really really really don't get this whole "We have all this depth so it doesn't make sense to trade him for anything but elite talent." Talent is talent. Adding talent to the system should never be something we don't need to do. Sure we have a lot of 50 grade guys, but many(most) will fail. Some of those guy end up be much more than a 50 grade too(Lucroy). The more we have the absolute better. Just because we have depth doesn't make said talent less valuable.
  14. That would definitely kill any Braun possibility...if it isn't already dead which I wonder if it might be.
  15. I just wonder how motivated the Brewers are to trade him. Are they looking for a big deal or are they just looking for something acceptable? How badly do they want to move him before his full no trade rights kick in? Are they really ok with keeping Braun even if he is expensive and not providing value to the next competing team? These are questions we can't even guess the answers to. Honestly I am trading Braun for the best offer no matter how meh it is. Why? Because I am pretty confident we have internal options that could easily step in and produce a 2 WAR yearly maybe more. Add in the money saved and we have already replaced what Braun gives us value wise. Get some prospects on top of that and we are coming out ahead. I just don't see him being apart of the next great thing here and I have a hard time seeing why he is worth keeping when it's unlikely he provides a big impact to negate the $80mil we pay him plus the prospects we wouldn't acquire. At some point you look to the future and trade him hoping you get something to help you down the road. Braun will be great now, but soon enough he declines or is gone before we truly make noise.
  16. I remember looking it up last week and I think the Bucs would win a tie breaker. It would be way easier to catch the Giants as we hold the tiebreaker over them. Their schedule is no cake walk. They still play the Lions and Redskins which are games they could lose. They actually lost to the Redskins and barely beat the Eagles so it isn't that easy for them. Of course one probably just hopes they win next week to open up the division for the Packers instead of the wild card mess. After nothing went right outside of their game yesterday a wildcard is pretty unlikely.
  17. I don't think the Dodgers have that deep of an interest in Braun and think this latest spending spree might mean they have zero interest. I think we are making that August talk a lot more than it was. Things change and any trade to the Dodgers may just not materialize.
  18. They got every break because they flat out dominated every single aspect of the game. And to be honest they didn't have everything go their way.
  19. Not only is another big one coming this weekend, but if you extend out the forecast they already have a big storm system producing snow starting Christmas Day. Man what a month if that happens.
  20. One thing to keep in mind is while everyone on here is valuing Giolito like a god and elite prospect the Nats wanted nothing to do with him. That is a big red flag when a team is trying to essentially dump a prospect and sell high on them like that. For whatever reason it seemed like the Nationals felt Giolito in Washington was not going to have a happy ending. Maybe they don't think he is as good as everyone thinks or maybe they think he will be a slow devoping pitcher on their win now team. Regardless this should be an interesting one to watch play out.
  21. It was said to be a problem before the trade deadline and it is still said to be a problem now. Both times where teams could have figured something out. Even easier now in the offseason where teams are swimming in money to spend before the season starts. I guess we just have to stick to the theory all that talk is garbage started by a team interested in Braun trying to drive the price down. His contract is a problem and no one wants to pay it. Now there are many reasons why that might be. Could be injuries, age, contract length, time of year, other options on the market, PED history, shear amount of money, no trade clause demanding more money to be stacked on, not wanting to pay in money and prospects. I dont know if I was a comppeting team I would find Ryan Braun pretty attractive. Would I want to pay $20mil a season and give up a Top 50 prospect plus some more? Tough call, but it seems like the answer to that question so far has been no. Only takes one team to swoop in acting desperate though. To be completetly honest that might be the only way the Brewers wants get fulfilled and Braun goes elsewhere.
  22. Packers not getting a whole lot of help today in the standings so far today. Losses by the Buccaneers and/or the Giants would be huge in the Wild Card standings though.
  23. Those are future values. If you are closer to the majors you are more likely to hit those future values therefor you will be more highly ranked. You have to consider not obly pitential, but where they are not. Control=/=# of walks
  24. Clearest evidence that Dubon was targeted by DS. I think the trade is a win for the Brewers unless all 3 guys they received fall on their face... How is this a clear win?
  25. I'd rather have Braun for $80 million over 4. He's still a Brewer right? It's why I don't think Braun's contract effects his trade value like the conventional wisdom says it will. He is worth his contract and there are people out there looking for a top notch player. If he was a FA he'd get a lot more. No, but this hints pretty well it does. https://thegamedayreport.com/2016/08/27/brewers-of-ryan-braun-clears-revocable-waivers/ No one wanted Ryan Braun for 4/$72mil. Not a single team in all of MLB took a chance at having Braun for only the contract. Don't give me the "They probably didn't think he would approve a trade or they didn't have room on the payroll." Nonsense. There is no downside to claiming him and a trade not happening. If they wanted Braun they would have found the payroll space too. The biggest sign is the fact the team with the biggest payroll in baseball, money coming out the ears, and showing the most interest in him still wanted the Brewers to take on over $20mil in a dead money contract. There is a whole lot to prove his contract is a problem and nothing that says it isn't.
