  1. Unless you are going to get an elite prospect back it doesn't make any sense. So unless that phantom 1 for 1 trade people always like to think about has the opportunity to happen Arcia is not moving. We are at least a year from having a middle infield problem.
  2. He put up a 151 wRC+ in 269 AA plate appearances last year so I would think an assignment to AAA to start the year would be fine. Who would be the AAA SS otherwise, Rivera again? Not to mention Diaz is going to be at AA next year so it would make sense to put Dubon at AAA. While Diaz doesn't seem to have a future at SS for the Brewers it is smart to keep him playing both SS and 2B as long as possible. If Dubon becomes a legit 2B for us Diaz might be the expendable one who is traded later on. At which point being able to play SS means a lot to his trade value.
  3. Thornburg also didn't shoot up his garage after a fight with his girlfriend.
  4. Great thing is it looks like Stearns found three guys who should contribute at the MLB level. That's always a nice get for a single player. Hopefully Dubon becomes something special.
  5. He has a higher ceiling, but Shaw has more value. Not to mention that's who Stearns was making this deal for mainly.
  6. I need the rose colored glasses people calling this a huge haul have. If anything this is an OK deal with Stearns selling low on Thornburg not taking the risk of having a big regression next year. Honestly the deal leaves a lot to be desired. The deal is headlined by a platoon bat who had a brutal second half. On the bright side BR.com really liked his 3B defense, he plays the better half of a platoon, and his first half hitting wise was a lot more pleasant. If he can hit like his first half numbers with good defense I guess one can come out of this feeling happy. I wouldn't get all excited about this return. They had a potentially elite trade chip and bailed out for a lower ceiling player. Not saying it was wrong to trade him. Trading him now is obviously the safer bet, but they left a lot on the table if his numbers are close to last years next year. This then leads me into the question why on earth the Brewers even gave Gennett a contract. Must be really confident some team will trade for him.
  7. Nationals actually want both of them badly. It sounds like Gioloto and Robles are both headed to the White Sox for Sale which is a significant haul. Unless the Nationals can somehow land Sale without dealing Robles I don't think there is enough left in the farm to still land McCutcheon after that. I'm sure they won't deal Turner. Oh the Nationals have the pieces...even if those two names go to the White Sox. You can't forget McCutchen isn't cheap by any means, had a huge down year, bad in CF these days, and it only controllable for two more years. McCutchen isn't worth a Robles/Giolito after the year he had. I think some people are overvaluing what McCutchen is actually worth. Last year he was really bad...really really really bad. He had a -0.7 WAR last year, Yuniesky Betencourt had a better WAR in 2011. Let that sink in for a moment.
  8. Nationals actually want both of them badly.
  9. I would give up real value if we were a team that was competing or close to it. Solarte is a great role player and avoids having a Yuni B at SS situation like we had in 2011.
  10. Or like any other team they are exploring all options?
  11. The first three teams in my opinion were pretty easy. Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State. I also agree on Washington not worthy of being selected. In my opinion Michigan should have gotten it instead. Michigan killed Penn State in their meeting which is the real difference maker there. Not sure how one could decide to put Penn State in over Michigan(if we booted Washington out).
  12. You can probably come to the conclusion yourself if you think about it. Hint: $$$ That or because Penn State lost to Pittsburg and got destroyed by Michigan. The commiteee isn't going to put in a team that got destroyed by another one of the playoff teams. Same problem with Wisconsin. They lost against three of the other Top 5 or so playoff hopeful teams. That is problematic and Wisconsin just wasn't a dominating team all year
  13. Yah the Padres would probably be jumping on a deal with Phillips involved, but that is probably too much from the Brewers perspective. Even more so considering there are still quite a few question marks surrounding the team.
  14. Yah due to the three years of control and adding in value for his cheapness through arbitration you are looking at giving up multiple legitimate prospects. Actually just thinking about it Khris Davis is probably a really good comp value wise. A fringy Top 100 prospect might be required(though obviously a higher risk Top 100 range guy). Solarte would be a guy I would aggresively pursue if we were confident in our team going into the next three years. Unfortunately the team just hasn't formed emoughed to the point making trades would make a whole lot of sense.
  15. The Brewers tend to be a very quiet organization. Most of the time you don't hear anything till it happens.
  16. A few things, with the first not relating to what you said but what someone else said. #1 Why wouldn't people talk about running the tables and winning the last 4 games? Isn't it normal to talk about how your team can make the playoffs? #2 If the Packers were to lose one of their final 4 games to go 3-1 one of the wins does not have to be against the Lions. The Packers would hold the tiebreaker over the Lions so they would depend on the Lions going 1-3 regardless. Obviously it is better if you can at least control the outcome to one of those games. The worst loss for the Packers(if going 3-1) would actually be against the Vikings since they would lose any tiebreaker to the Vikings if both teams finished out the season 3-1. #3 The division is definitely not the only way into the playoffs for the Packers. Actually, in my opinion, it might just be more likely they get in via the WildCard. As I mentioned before there are paths to overtake both current WC teams. One being the Packers going 4-0, Giants going 2-2 or worse, and the Redskins losing at least one more. That in my opinion is much more likely than overtaking the Lions.
  17. I doubt they bite on a Cordell type just because the ceiling is a bit limited. Would probably take a Nottingham/Devin Williams to be the center piece at worst. While he is only a 2.5 WAR player, but he is extremely cheap for three years. I would be surprised if it took a Prince/Lopez to head a deal.
  18. I wouldn't hesitate with Gennett and Jungmann for Solarte. I don't think I would include Perez because of his ability to play all over the field for us. I just can't see them moving Solarte for those two pieces though. You aren't getting Solarte for garbage. Both of those players have value almost equal to zero. Solarte is a legit starter at 3B and controllable for three years. Want him? Well you are going to pay the price.
  19. If the Packers win out these are their scenarios: #1 Division- The Packers would win the division if the Lions lose another game outside of the loss to the Packers. #2 WC- The Packers would take a wild card spot if the Redskins lose one more and the Buccaneers lose two more(from my calculations the Bucs win a tiebreaker). #3 WC- If the Giants lose two more games and the Redskins lose at least one as the Packers have the tiebreaker over them. Obviously there are a few other situations, but they would take a wild turn of events that aren't very realistic. One important thing to note is the Lions/Giants play a game against eachother so one of those teams is assured a loss right there. Both of Jose teams also have the Cowboys on the schedule still to come. If the Packers were to win out it would be quite likely the dominos would fall elsewhere to pave the way for a playoff spot. The downside is the Packers can't really afford a loss at this point.
  20. The Dodgers are constantly riddled with injuries to the starting rotation and the back end has been a constant problem for multiple years now. Rich Hill has a great year in 2016 and pitched well for the Dodgers. Not to mention due to age he is not a long term commit and the Dodgers can afford the risk. It make a ton of sense.
  21. I wouldn't be too worried about his change in the no trade clause. I'd guess he bumped out a team like the D Backs who sucked last year and seem to be in a bad state.
  22. To bad we just traded them for Trout in this situation.
  23. I'd release Thames tomorrow if I had to. Nothing would interfere if we had a chance to get Bellinger.
  24. There is a very small difference in each teams cap. I believe small markets get just a touch more. I am guessing the international side of things isn't very happy, but it could have been a lot worse. The only thing it really effects is the players who were getting mega bonuses. I saw somewhere that the new system could cut $100mil out of the pockets of international signees, but that seems a touch steep.
  25. There are so many things different about those two though. McCutchen coming off the bad year, he is younger, his contract is only two years, he is a lot cheaper, better in his peak, healthier history, etc. They are both elite OFers in recent memory, but that is about it as far as relation. Everything else about them is a lot different. Not saying McCutchen is more valuable(I would think not)...just saying it is pretty hard for one to set the bar for the other.
