  1. The Cubs traded for Chapman without an extension. They gave up that package with the understanding he is very likely a rental.
  2. Chapman and what he got literally means nothing when talking about Lucroy, NOTHING. No team cares. They are talking about Lucroy not Chapman and that team is not the Cubs.
  3. If Stearns holds onto Lucroy and all we get is a compensation pick David Stearns can be put in the same category as the guy in charge of Arizona. The amount of stupidity it would take to have that happen is hard to find.
  4. Yah I really want to drop Arcia since he has disappointed so badly this season, but I just can't do it. He has a higher ceiling, higher floor, and a way better chance to get to the ceiling.
  5. I doubt another year of saves is going to make up for an entire year of control lost. Pretty clear what Jeffress is and what he can do as a closer.
  6. Junior Guerra is pitching like an ace...and he isn't one. Even if you are the biggest Guerra fan a notable regression should be obvious to you. Our rotation has nowhere to go but down if you ask me even if we don't trade any of them. The other thing is our bullpen. Torres and Boyer should be gone at the least. Add in one of the big three, maybe two, and clearly our bullpen is going to take a big hit. Lastly it sure won't help taking away Lucroy's offense. We will go from an all star bat to a well below average one just like that.
  7. The problem is other fringe contenders can't just offer their guys because then you have flooded the market.
  8. None of our pitchers are even remotely close to Chapman. Yankees had the only two difference makers so to speak on the market. That is why they got a huge overpay. Jeffress/Thornburg/Smith are all great pitchers, but not elite. Controllable or not they want to win this year and Chapman gives them the best shot.
  9. He's been playing now for over a month so his concussion issue is no more than Lucroy's. He's had success working with young talented arms and he's not a terrible hitter. Brewers are going to need someone to work with guys like Hader, Woodruff, Davies etc. No once you starting getting multiple concussions a month healthy doesn't fix the problem. If any team, or D Arnaud, values his future health/life he should not be playing catcher. Mets have already talked about making the move and another concussion would seal the deal. Heck it could end his career.
  10. Candelario said not to be in the deal from what I saw. However more than just two prospects.
  11. There has been no talk about an extension and the deal is on the one yard line. I will be stoked if the Cubs give up their #1 prospect and don't get Chapman past this year. I will say I can't blame the Cubs for doing this. An elite bullpen can take you places. Won't ever forget that K-Rod/Axford duo in 2011. Basically made the game 7 innings and a big reason we dominated in the second half.
  12. Saw a rumor about the Brewers trying to package a reliever with other pieces. Interestingly the report mentioned Braun so maybe Braun trade talks are still alive. The same report, however, said the Giant have no interest in Braun.
  13. Maybe back in like 2012 or 2013 a straight swap would have made sense...but D Arnaud has gone way south since then.
  14. Rumor has it the Cubs deal is contingent on a contract extension.
  15. Didn't want the risk of holding onto him. The length of his suspension was still a mystery when they traded him and the incident (in my mind) was serious enough where I'd be concerned holding onto him longer. Add in the normal risks of taking a player into his final year like regression or injury leaving you with a comp pick at best and I guess they didn't want to go down that path of risks.
  16. Too many damaged goods and too many players with clocks started. I don't want to push to compete in 2018 and 2019. No thanks.
  17. A lot. He is probably the most valuable reliever they have in all honesty. Doesn't have the track record but the results have been amazing this year.
  18. I'm guessing the article was hinting at how controllable they are. Some think we can compete in 2018 or 2019. If we did that would be quite the back end of the bullpen assuming they keep up their production.
  19. [sarcasm]Carlos Torres for Moncada?[/sarcasm]
  20. I'm not surprised the Yankees are trading Chapman. They only have him 2 more months and it sounds like they are about to get a giant haul for him.
  21. They're stupid if they do. Stupid doesn't begin to describe the Indians. Supposedly they're about to give up Bradley, one of Zimmer / Frazier and one of Sheffield / McKenzie for 2 months of Aroldis Chapman Woah read your rumors more closely. I saw that rumor too however with one big difference. That is what they are ASKING for. Nearly had a heart attack thinking they would actually give that up(maybe they do never know).
  22. Thanks Smith I wouldn't want you to improve on your trade value.
  23. Greinke has 8 years of being a top flight ace and he had turned it a around until he got hurt again. While true their team sucks. It's a horrible deal and the back end of it is likely going to be pretty brutal. The most valuable year of the contract was wasted and next year doesn't look all that bright.
  24. The Indians might have one of the worst catching situations in recent memory. When Yan Gomes went down he already had produced a crisp -1.2 WAR by himself and mind you the other catchers suck just as bad. People still complain about Yuni B costing us so much and he only had -.5 WAR over an entire year. The Indians are absolute idiots if they don't trade for a catcher and honestly I'd think they are pretty stupid if they don't get Lucroy. It would improve that team more than any other possible move could.
  25. Not even remotely close. Peralta had one decent year and Jungmann like half a year. Miller has three great years and was an elite prospect. Give them those two plus a lower level prospect. I think the needle moved a tad...or maybe it was just the wind. Seriously though those two have no trade value. One is stinking up the joint in Colorado then the other stunk it up in Colorado, was so bad they made him take a mental break, and now he is continuing to pitch poorly in AA. Jungmann could have a little value if a team thinks he could make it as a reliever, but the way he has pitched he doesn't even deserve a 40 man spot.
