  1. I don't think Guerra is moving the bar farther in any deal. Teams will take a flyer on him for some lottery tickets, but I doubt any team invests much into him.
  2. I agree it does seem they are very reluctant to have a guy move levels mid season unless it is very late in the season. Unless of course it is someone leaving rookie ball or a prospect they wish was at the next level a long time ago(Roache). I wonder how much of that has to do with higher end talent not having much success and they are less likely to push lesser know prospects.
  3. I think you answered your own question. Players typically don't get to the majors quickly because of aggressive placement. Most really do start in low A ball etc. They move fast because they do well and teams somewhat aggressively promote them. Though when they are hitting/pitching well promoting a guy after a half season or less at a level isn't really being aggressive. Only thing that may be aggressive is when a team makes a player skip AA. If you are an international signing or a HS player it isn't hard to move a level a year and make the big leagues by 23. We just have too many players struggling or falling off the map before they can make it all the way up.
  4. Anonymous GM says the Brewers plan on moving Lucroy at the deadline. Not that it is all that surprising, but something none the less with the June silence on rumors.
  5. That's a bold move, its been a while since the Brewers took a college bat so highly in the draft, I'm not used to seeing a kid jump right to A+. Yah pretty surprised they decided to throw him into that hitters nightmare. Hopefully he can mentally handle it if he struggles a bit. Surprised they didn't send him to (hopefully) mash at Single-A for a few weeks. Clearly they want him to get moving though the minors. This would put him on a path to debut in 2018 if he hits well.
  6. The article is interesting. Don't know if the attendance spike has continued. http://ballparkdigest.com/2016/05/23/manatees-experiencing-attendance-jump/
  7. Umm yikes just saw how many errors Gatewood and Diaz have(42 combined). I know errors aren't a ton, but that is bad...really bad. Anyone know what Gatewood's errors have mostly been? He was way better in the error department last year at SS so I imagine throwing errors are the culprit. Would suck to have him move off of 3B for 1B.
  8. Below is how I view the pick of Maker. It just is not a very good pick as it appears right now. They don't have their own D-League team to truly prepare him how they want him and even then that is not a great way to prepare NBA draft talent(MAY change soon). He is raw...very raw. Like still on a newborn steer. Still need to eat right, grow, slaughtered, packaged, and then cooked right. I mean sure he has a lot of potential, but he hasn't even tapped into it at all. The odds of him actually being great is probably way lower than one would want. I wish the Bucks the best of luck though. They could look brilliant someday. I think this is a prime example of a team falling in love with a player too much. Sam Vecenie of CBSSports.com: Maker -- D. "This is just not great value. Maker is the rawest player in this draft, and is still two years away from legitimately playing in an NBA game due to his lack of strength and limited basketball instincts. To make matters worse, Maker likely won't be able to get time on the floor to improve because the team does not have a D-League affiliate to stick him with. It's hard for me to see how this one works out well for them."
  9. Nice to see some success and I hope it continues. Hard to get excited though seeing so many pitchers start their MLB careers out nicely just to fizzle out into back of the rotation starters.
  10. Yah coming from a D3 school even then pitching is extremely hard to come by. There just aren't the quality pitchers and developing more just isn't realistic. 3/4 of the years I was in high school we were lucky to be playing baseball by the last week of April. We were constantly playing 3-4 games every week. We didn't have 7+ pitchers to handle that workload. I can't imagine trying to win games with these kind of rules. I am sure the private schools are thrilled though since they typically have more pitching depth/talent.
  11. They can afford him. He was rumored unlikely to sign after the third round which is approx. $600,000 at the lowest.
  12. Not sure I really get the Bryant comparison. At least Bryant mashed in the minors(.325 AVG). Gallo on the other hand has a career .258 average. Now by no means am I saying average is everything, but there's a point where it really limits you. Typically one would expect a players stats to get worse once they get to the MLB level and for a guy very strikeout prone those concerns are even higher. You start talking about have a Chris Carter type player. If I was trading Lucroy straight up for a player(with no other major pieces) I would expect that player to have a superstar ceiling and a good bet to get there or be very close. While Gallo has a superstar ceiling I am very concerned about his chances to get there and the fear of a low floor.
  13. Corey Ray is going to sign. This is all about getting every penny they can to give to a guy they nabbed in a later round. $50k can be a big deal for convincing one of those later guys to sign. $200k vs. $250k or whatever may be the difference between signing or not.
  14. I agree the WAR projection is pretty inaccurate, but I think the end result still stands. Teams view him as too expensive to pay him and give up prospects...probably taking in excess of $20mil picked up by the Brewers to give up good prospects.
  15. He was #10 on his highest Pre-2011 list. Most had him at #14 or worse.
  16. Frazier/Aiken would be pretty awesome to get, but that is a ton of upside for the Indians to give up. Not saying Lucroy doesn't deserve that return, but just that I have a hard time seeing the Indians do it.
  17. Why are you adding both Anderson and jeffrees? Just adding Anderson should net that package Even better! Honestly, I was under the impression that Brinson and Tate would be hard gets so I figured it would take Lucroy and Anderson just to get those two and Jeffess comes in to nab the other two. No no...you had it right the first time. You would be lucky if Lucroy/Jeffress could command what you proposed. Anderson would give us free air fare for our new players.
  18. Tyler Beede? Eh I feel like your scouting staff would really have to love him to make that trade. Unless you think you can make him harness that control, no thanks. I think that would be a pretty weak deal for the Brewers and I don't know what "real money means". How much do we have to kick in. I would probably pass on that deal.
  19. So umm where have we been drafting fringy weak armed LFers? In the first round we drafted Trent Clark last year and Victor Roache back in 2012. They are also the only OFers we have drafted in the last decade first round. Clark could still stick in center and Ray definitely has at least an average arm and can at least play the corners. I'm sorry but I don't see where we are constantly drafting weak armed LFers.
  20. By my eye, Hill has been a lot better in the infield this year than Parra was in the outfield last year. I'm not able to look it up at the moment, but weren't defensive metrics down on Parra's work the past few years? You are right. Eyeball test would come to the same conclusion.
  21. Brett Phillips has not swung one bat at the MLB level. Heck he hasn't even seen AAA pitching and we are penciling him as the long term CFer? Wow
  22. I don't think any team would be "fools" if they opted not to trade one of their best players and biggest contributors. Addition by subtraction which in 1.5 years would be more subtraction than addition once Lucroy is gone. Yes it would probably make them better for 1.5 years(not a for sure thing), but honestly by how much? That would be a win now move and honestly with that pitching staff they are built more for the long run not short term. I don't think Matz is expendable enough to make such a move.
  23. Why because I mentioned some negatives? Am I not allowed to mention negative things related to them? Braun/Lucroy are great players and great trade pieces. That being said neither is incredible when it comes to trade value. Neither is a mega star locked up for years on a cheap deal...neither is a total game changer(Trout/Harper/etc). Now don't take this as I think we are going to get a boring return. I think Lucroy will be traded and nab us a prospect that will instantly be #2 in our system. Regarding Braun if he can stay healthy, mash, and we pick up enough money I think he can bring back a package headlined by a borderline Top 50 prospect if a team is desperate to get a big bat. All I am trying to get at is there are some negatives and things that limit the returns we can demand. I feel some think just because Lucroy is a top catcher and arguably the best trade chip this summer that we are going to walk away with this insane haul. Then you have the same with Braun where lots just look at his stat line and starts expecting the moon...not that simple.
  24. Yes I think two all stars, one a former MVP and one quite possibly the best all around catcher in baseball and both of whom would immediately be the best position players on their team, have more value than a 25 year old pitcher with barely over 100 innings in the majors. If the Mets offered me Matz for those two I'd respond "Matz and......?" You're obviously entitled to your opinion but i think you are simultaneously overvaluing Matz and undervaluing Braun and Lucroy No one cares Braun was an MVP half a decade ago. It's about what he is doing now. There is enough baggage on him his value isn't really that high. No one is giving us a blue chip prospect for him. Lucroy is very good...but a 1 year and 2 month rental. You have to look past the fact they are both All Star players right now because it isn't that simple.
  25. Moving on over to the Lucroy thread...
