  1. Extending Lucroy is a horrible idea no matter how good/bad this team is. I trust Stearns is smart enough to not sign an old catcher to a big contract. Not to mention with health issues.
  2. Chris Carter had two years of over 500 ABS so yes he has played the bulk of the time before. Carter talked about all his work in the offseason and naturally that would make most believe some of this is real, but NOTHING in his advanced stats has changed. Not a single thing has positively changed. Instead we are left with a HR/FB percentage way over career norms and a BABIP that is also well over his norms. It all really seems like smoke and mirrors sadly. I'd expect him to come back down to earth. The best I would expect is a .230-240 average. Until then we can enjoy it and have that sliver of hope it keeps on going even though everything points to it not.
  3. We did that a few years ago when we took Medeiros and then Gatewood and Harrison. Obviously there's still a long time before we can judge the picks but none of those guys are exactly setting the world on fire so far. I know I wanted Grant Holmes that year. He was the higher rated player and his career appears to be off to a better start than Medeiros. Not saying Medeiros was a bad pick but it seems like it was a value pick. I think at 5 we have to go quality. We don't need depth. We need impact. So Carlos Correa wasn't quality? Sure seems like it now. Getting a guy to go under slot doesn't mean you aren't getting quality. Trusting your scouts a bit more though. I don't think the Brewers attempt some kind of money saving move at #5, but if they did they could get a good player still.
  4. Shaun Marcum...if only he hadn't tired out at the end of the season. Maybe we would have won that series. Dang...
  5. The Brewers won 96 games in 2011 even with Yuni (-0.1 WAR) & McGehee (-0.3 WAR) receiving the 3rd & 4th most plate appearances on the team. The Royals won the World Series in 2015 with Omar Infante contributing -0.9 WAR in 455 PA's. The 2011 Cardinals gave Ryan Theriot (0.2 WAR) & Skip Schumacher (0.3 WAR) 400 PA's each & had no problem winning the WS. The 2007 WS Champion Boston Red Sox gave Julio Lugo, he of the 0.4 WAR, the 3rd most plate appearance on the team with 630. Even the best teams typically have a terrible player or two that plays plenty. Not someone that terrible defensively at a premium position In 2011 Yuni B was worth a grand 0 dWAR. He made some errors, but outside of that he was fairly reliable in all other aspects.
  6. 10%!? You are much too generous. You're right - I guess I was assuming we'd be scrapping the rebuild AND doing something like trading for a pitcher at the deadline or something stupid. We gotta trade for four.
  7. 10%!? You are much too generous.
  8. You want to take on Castillo so we have $10mil a year in dead money? We have no where to put him.
  9. At #5 we won't get a can't miss guy though. The Astros took Carlos Correa to save money and he ended up one of the best prospects in the game. Just because you are saving money doesn't mean you can't get a top player. Also getting two B+ guys isn't necessarily that bad. That gives us one more chance to hit and actually get a good player.
  10. You say that like it's no big deal. Just lacking an entire starting pitching staff. Big whoop. Agreed. I see teams every year having trouble trying to find a reliable #5...none the less 3 quality pitchers and an ace.
  11. Few thoughts: -You aren't going to see Arcia anytime soon -We lack an ace(Nelson is not...honestly not even close) -We lack 4 starting pitchers -Domingo Santana has not been very productive this year. Actually he has been pretty bad. Can't pencil him in as a solid starter yet. 2018 if you think things can go perfectly...2019 if you want to think positive...realistically 2020.
  12. Why do you want to keep a player that wont be here when we are good again? Keeping him is like Herb Kohl always going for the 8th seed I think you are quoting the wrong person. I didn't say that.
  13. First though...Chris Carter was an instant steal at $2.5mil. He is worth that hitting .200 hitting 40 homers. Anything above that is just a bonus. There could be something to his hot streak. He did supposably change his approach so his average could creep up a bit. The thing is at a .240 average Chris Carter would be really valuable. Something of which I think is obtainable for him. If his change in approach can boost his average a bit and truly lead to more doubles he is a legit bat.
  14. Can you imagine where the ball is going to land on a hot summer night in July with the roof open...dear god Carter don't kill anyone.
  15. You mean all those placeholders that we picked up to see if we could catch lightning in a bottle?
  16. Really all you are doing is insulting our AAA pitchers because Guerra is the most productive one. Maybe if the other ones didn't stink up the joint we wouldn't have this old guy pitching.
  17. -Red Sox, White Sox, Nationals, Dodgers all could do it easily. -Orioles and Seattle probably not. -Angels...no, but he mentioned that. Seems like most could do it and maybe some long shots if his value isn't as high as we think it is. There was only one team that has no chance.
  18. It is funny because even he knows he can't hit the broad side of a barn
  19. This trade says hi: http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/07/30/cole-hamels-trade-rangers-rotation-prospects-phillies
  20. Where was this? Last time I heard money mentioned they didn't want to pay a dime.
  21. We could sit here for months talking about different trade possibilities with the Boston Red Sox. So many different ways to trade with them. From the sounds of it a healthy and productive Braun is likely to be on the move come July.
  22. Last I checked this is what was said:
  23. Bauer isn't really comparable because his team wasn't really fond of him. The D Backs didn't think of him so highly. Russell is a better comparison, but he was still only the #11 prospect in baseball and the #4 SS prospect. Giolito is is the #1 prospect and the best up and coming pitcher. Really the biggest roadblock in the deal is how meaningful he is to the Nationals next year with losing Strasburg. If they had Strasburg long term maybe trading Giolito would be somewhat feasible. Hard to say what a team would give up for a Lucroy/Braun combo though. That is quite the offensive upgrade for the next 1.5 years plus Braun for more. You could go from an average offense to an amazing one really quick.
