  1. All he had to do was say he wanted to win. That then causes signing aging vets, holding onto players, and trading prospects to put the best team(on paper) on the field. That is the only shot Attanasio had to take and cause all of those things indirectly.
  2. In a video game this might be an interesting proposal, but realistically Giolito is the best prospect in the game. You just don't trade prospects on that level. You also propose them trade their #2 pitching prospect. Trading your top 2 pitching prospects is just not something a team wants to do. Lucroy/Braun are huge upgrades, but they are losing Strasburg after this year and Giolito will fill that void.
  3. Well I would be pretty surprised if the Yankees/Astros don't improve and be better than us. Braves/Padres could be worse and the Reds are a toss-up.
  4. Sounds kind of ignorant when you probably have never watched Guerra pitch in your life. Jeez let the guy have a chance before you start complaining. People thought the same about Jungmann last year and he tore it up for a few months.
  5. This is a great thing to be heard. I mean, it is what 99% of this board has been hoping for I think. We need pitching if this rebuild is going to be anything successful. If we go at it with the Brauns/Fielders/Weeks/Harts of the world again and have no pitchers, this rebuild won't matter one bit. Yah if we can't get quality pitching it is going to end up just like the 2010 off-season where we have to trade away a lot of prospects to get them. Sure we compete either way, but that really hurt our window.
  6. Right I am not saying Doug Melvin doesn't hold some of the blame, but at the end of the day Attanasio was calling the shots. Throughout Melvin's tenure with this team it was very obvious Attanasio was running the show. Thanks Attanasio has stepped down from the command center and given power to Stearns to do whatever he wants.
  7. Of course this thread turns into something about Doug Melvin. When will you guys realize everything Doug Melvin did was largely in part because of Attanasio. Melvin couldn't do things Attanasio wouldn't let him. Attanasio wanted to sign old veterans so he could try to compete every year. Attanasio wanted to trade away prospects to win now. Attanasio wanted to extend every homegrown guy to keep a winning team for just a few more years. Doug Melvin was just doing whatever possible to put the best team on the field every year even though towards the end that was far fetched. He didn't look a few years down the road because Attanasio didn't care about that. Attanasio was the biggest problem of the last decade NOT Doug Melvin. Your GM can only be as good as your owner. If your owner is an idiot so will the GM.
  8. I would lean to agree with this. Flipping them is more of a secondary reason to sign these guys. It probably crosses your mind as a possibility down the road, but not necessarily something you are trying to do.
  9. I hope for Monte Harrison it clicks at some point...I really do. He had that good run at Helena so at least he has shown something.
  10. I think this idea is a bit overrated because the Cubs were so successful with it during their rebuild. Jason Hammel really made the whole "flipping" thing become a talked about thing among fans. People think we can start flipping stuff of the trash heap to help get Addison Russell type players. It can be done, but it likely won't be that successful nor are we likely to get anything super meaningful.
  11. Thank the lord: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/05/brewers-designate-sam-freeman.html
  12. It would be hard to pass on Groome, but Pint has a lot of concern. I wouldn't blame them for passing on either to be honest. Prep arms can be total busts and at #5 that would be really really bad. Whatever they do regarding those two has my full support. Massive ceilings with massive floors.
  13. Kris Bryant Addison Russel George Springer Maikel Franco http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/story/chicago-cubs-kris-bryant-service-time-when-to-call-up-prospects-031115 http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/story/delaying-arrival-of-young-baseball-talent-in-majors-is-getting-old-031715 http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/how-mlb-service-time-dictates-top-prospect-promotions-041914 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/its-time-to-fix-baseballs-broken-service-time-system/ So you say it isn't an issue anymore and teams no longer do it?
  14. I'm just a youth & high school coach and in 3 seconds could tell you that Gray had/has way more projectable mechanics than Jungmann. Jungmann starts toward the 3rd base dugout and then throws across his body. His mechanics are a disaster Wow sounds like you should get a good promotion here shortly. I will take the word of what the scouts were saying. If it was that simple he wouldn't have been a Top 10 prospect in the draft. And in reply to Jungmann hitting 98 he wasn't consistently hitting 98. He worked in the 95 range back then though. Now I'm happy if he hits 92 for one inning.
  15. That sure isn't saying much...he was awful last year.
  16. Really illustrates how important it is to get things right in the Draft, and if you don't, it can negatively effect a franchise for years. The Brewers passed on Jose Fernandez and Sonny Gray to take Jungmann! You act like back in 2011 everyone knew Sonny Gray was going to be amazing. ungmann AND Bradley were both more highly rated than Gray by many. At the time Jungmann was hitting 98 and both had great control and Jungmann was considered a top of the rotation potential arm. They both had their stuff go downhill after the draft something we couldn't predict. On the subject of Fernandez I am pretty sure he was a huge sign-ability concern and Miami was likely the only team that could get him away from the South Florida commitment. Not likely he would have signed with us and he would have been a wasted pick.
  17. Umm.. why? If those guys have proven all they need to in the minors, they have no business being held down. I'm really sick of this idea that we have to hold onto these players like they are golden unicorns when it comes to service time. Eventually these players have to come up and play and those three very well could be opening day 2017. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. See that is the thing they are golden unicorns. We are a small market team and an extra year or them not hitting Super Two status is huge to us. HUGE If they end up being anything close to All Stars you will be really happy that we waited till a few months into a lost season to call them up. Teams in the thick of a pennant race won't put these players on the roster till that deadline passes in most cases. Even big market teams will follow this model. It has immense value to any baseball club.
  18. The one thing he is doing right now that could make a difference and be something he *could* sustain is his doubles production. Usually he doesn't hit a lot of doubles, but he has already racked up 10 to go with his 7 homeruns. His average is going to drop significantly, but if he can continue to actually tap into his power a team may still find him as a valuable player to have going down the stretch.
  19. I don't want to see Arcia in Milwaukee until Opening Day 2017 at the earliest. Stearns should be fired if any of Arcia/Hadar/Phillips are here opening day 2017.
  20. No because I feel like you are inferring a guy like Reed is still at AAA because Stearns is afraid he might help us win an extra game. Honestly that is the only position we are trotting out awful production where MAYBE we have someone better in the minors that isn't apart of the elite wave. Then again Reed isn't a CFer so maybe that isn't even a good example. So I ask: Where exactly are we intentionally trotting out worse production to lose games. Where do we have better options and who are they?
  21. You were spot on until you added in that last statement. It has nothing to do with trying to not win games. All to do with that first part. Yeah. No. If you are putting in maginal players and leaving your betters down you are not trying to win games. They are trying to save service time. Which indirectly means you are going to lose more games. Obviously they are not trying to win games because Arcia/Phillips/Hader are not on this team. However, they are not still down there so we can lose games...they are there to save service time. Lets say we had a crystal ball and we knew we were going to win the same amount of games with or without them. We still aren't bringing them up so wins/losses is not a factor.
  22. You were spot on until you added in that last statement. It has nothing to do with trying to not win games. All to do with that first part.
  23. I'd bring up Lopez(well maybe not after his awful start now), but the likelyhood they burn service time is probably low. Most on here would support that notion. Lopez may make an appearance before September, but it won't happen till the cut off date. It is so close bringing him up now wouldn't really make any sense. It's hard to say when he is pitching so badly and we don't know how management feels about starting his clock.
  24. And if everything goes right we can maybe grab a wildcard in 2018! You know the last time I heard that? 2015 and the rest is history. Hader has better chance to be in the bullpen than in the rotation...none the less a #2. Nottingham's defense is questionable and he may not even stick at catcher. Let's not forget he is hitting .159 on the year, but hey he is on a hot streak hitting .167 in his last 10 games. You are also hoping all these players hit the majors running and no one busts or doesn't fully live up to expectations. If you think everything can go perfect maybe we can compete in 2018 or 2019, but that is just unrealistic because things don't go perfectly.
