  1. If we were to eat that much of his contact, what's the point? You are almost all in so why not wait and see if he has a break out 1st half and then trade him if he's the same Garza as last year what are you out? In your scenario you were going to eat the contract anyway. I don't remember where I said that. I was just pointing out that we could trade him if we wanted. Someone would have taken a gamble on him. Some make it seem like no one would take him for league minimum.
  2. Agreed. I dog can grow obviously, but if I remember right Hank was at least a couple years old...past growing stage. Another problem Hank was a mix...likely why he has a smaller build. The recent dog looks like a full fledged Bichon, at least more like one.
  3. Someone would take Garza if we paid for most of the contract. I am betting a team would still take him on $3mil a year give or take. He had one poor year and peripheral wise he didn't look anymore different than prior seasons. Teams are always handing out money to veteran starters. Garza was probably a better gamble than Cliff Lee and teams were lining up to throw money at him if he showed to be healthy.
  4. Wow that is far? I grew up where going to Wal Mart took about 30minutes. Driving from one baseball game to another in only 30minutes...I could only dream. Then again some of you would be totally fine taking 20 minutes to drive through 5 miles of city traffic. Me? I want to cry.
  5. I didn't even find the laugh funny the first time...honestly it was creepy/disturbing. His face is whack and 90% of the laugh there is no laugh. Like I don't know that is kinda weird.
  6. ESPN still has Wisconsin as a #8...however they have Oklahoma conveniently as the #1 in that region. That is a brutal match up for Wisconsin if they get it.
  7. I think they would be inclined to go out and add a Veteran. Don't they have a high preference for getting veterans to fill the back end of their rotation? They do have quite a few internal options too though.
  8. Including his 2013 season in which he was suspended for the majority of is misleading. Depending on where you are getting your information from that means his WAR per season is more like 4.4 to 4.7 a season.
  9. They are not...actually the #6 worst draw in all of baseball. They are the #3 worst in the Cactus League. I went back as far as 2010 and they have consistently been one of the worst draws. http://ballparkdigest.com/2015/04/05/2015-spring-training-attendance-by-average/
  10. I don't think he is entirely wrong. Braun is past what is considered a players prime and it is an assumption a player will decline at that point. When you go and sign a player, trade for them, or extend them you are going to assume they will decline in their 30s. Maybe they don't and maybe he randomly has a huge year after a couple average ones. Anything is possible, but when sticking a value on a player you are going to expect a decline in the 30s. That is without considering his injuries which could also effect him, but I will leave that out in this argument. It isn't something you look at on a year by year basis. For instance him claiming Braun will be worse next year because he is older, but over say a 5 year span you can comfortably say there will be some kind of notable decline in there.
  11. If more fans are coming to the games/park doesn't that mean it is a better fan experience? Just curious how hard are tickets to get at other stadiums. Not price wise, but simply buying a ticket. I know someone mentioned a couple marquee match-ups, but is it really a wide spread thing over the entire schedule? Are we honestly going to be selling out Brewers spring training games even if we have a new stadium? I just looked up some numbers...it looks like the teams that actually draw well are large markets. I think the Brewers would be safe. Yes you may not get 1st row seats every game, but tickets should be readily available.
  12. Yah what does one need to get $13mil these days? Low 4 ERA type stats?
  13. Thanks for the link. Gut tells me he starts the season on the roster until they can find an excuse to DL him...then have him rehab in the minors. Similar to what we did to Wang.
  14. Maybe it is just me, but in a season where wins don't necessarily matter I am not sure I care too much if they let Garza start opening day. I still have to watch him every 5 days regardless. There is the option year concern, but at this point I am pretty confident Garza will never stay productive/and or healthy enough to start enough games to do it. There isn't a big difference between having him at #1 or #4 start wise. I just find it surprising they would consider such a move after he got yanked out of the rotation last year and had a fit. Regardless oh well...even if the option year vests I won't care. There will be room in the payroll and it isn't my money. If Attanasio wants to risk giving him $13mil that is his problem. I do have a question though, cant we just: If he is productive between now and next July we can just trade him...not our problem then. OR we can just move him to the pen for a better option since he isn't being productive or flat out release him...also not our problem then. Seems like no matter what it should be easy to avoid the option vesting.
  15. Does anyone really know how Dylan Bundy is doing these days? If he is still throwing some nasty stuff like he did prior to injury I could see taking some type of gamble on him(not necessarily giving up Braun). However he just got injured again last fall...is he pitching off a mound right now? 100%? Really hard to give an opinion on Bundy because I am not a scout and have not watched him pitch. For all I know he is throwing 88mph.
  16. Gatewood seems particularly low in comparison to similar players, namely Harrison and Isan Diaz. Seeing Freddy Peralta on the list is surprising. If Milwaukee's system is vastly better than Seattle's and Peralta didn't make Seattle's most recent top-30, how did he increase in value without playing more games? Isan Diaz is a guy who can easily stick at SS from what I have heard and Monte Harrison is a 20/20 potential type player with above average defense. Jake Gatewood has a high ceiling, but most think he won't stick at SS taking away a lot of his value. He can still be good at 3B, but that just puts more pressure on a bat that has a long way to develop. That being said our #24 prospect being a guy like that is pretty crazy. Also crazy we have the top 16 players graded 50 or higher...going to produce a lot of solid major league players with that much depth.
  17. I don't have a negative view I just see his trade value as what it is. -His entire contract is in the mid 30s. -It is large...not massive, but not something you gamble on. -He is crippled. His thumb is a constant issue and back issues usually end up being the same. Any team acquiring him almost can assure he will deal with injuries every year. Very concerning Maybe one of those issues by itself isn't too bad, but when you have them all going on at once that is a big risk. Braun could regain value. Possibly with a completely healthy season(maybe a half year if a team is desperate), but even then his value won't be something that will get us a really nice prospect(think Phillips/Hader level). I sure won't bet on him playing the 150 games he needs to really add some value. He has not shown to be healthy for quite awhile now and I don't expect that to change. I never said it made total sense to trade him right now. I said it makes sense to trade him because of the money...never gave some kind of timeline. I never even said they were shopping him. All I said is they would love to trade him if they could. If they could save the money and get a decent prospect he would be gone fast.
  18. What exactly do you expect? David Stearns to come to your door step and say it? A rumor is a rumor. Rumor plus the fact it makes total sense to trade him gets you what...? Something that is probably true... Of course it could be false like any rumor. However usually we assume they are true on here for the sake of discussion.
  19. The one more substantial rumor happened back in early January: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/milwaukee-brewers-ryan-braun-trade-rumors-mlb-hot-stove-011116 Obviously no one in the organization is going to have a press release about how they want to trade Braun and save millions of dollars. They are going to be minor rumors without a stated source...just like 99% of rumors released.
  20. It has been reported the Brewers would like to trade Braun. Of course that was prior to the Khris Davis trade...so maybe it isnt that strong anymore or maybe that had little effect. Either way wanting to trade Braun is common sense. Just because we can afford to pay him $100mil doesn't mean we should. This is a business first and Braun is a massive expense. What does Braun even provide at this point? What is the risk? Upsetting a small portion of the fan base for a little while? It isn't a question of if they want to trade him, but how badly. To this point it seems like they won't just dump the salary, but want something of note in return at the least. I get it as fans we don't care if Attanasio and Co. drop $20mil a year for Braun, but as the person spending the money it is a much different story.
  21. And that is why he is still on this team. Not one single team wants to give up anything for him. The value does not exist. To be devil's advocate, with that logic, Lucroy doesn't have value either then (which obviously isn't true). Coming off surgery, I'm sure, regardless of how fair his contract is or isn't, teams are going to want to see he's healthy before there's even the possibility of someone making a move for him. Until then, it's hard to speculate interest level based solely on the fact that he hasn't been moved yet. No because they are completely different players they want to trade. One is old, crippled, and expensive. The other is in their prime and cheap. Lucroy is still on the team because no one has offered the value they want. Braun is on this team because(as rumored) no one will give prospects for him. Teams only want him as a salary dump.
  22. Chapman took the lesser ban because appealing and then losing would have effected his FA status for next offseason. Thank god we can punish these individuals without needing a criminal charge. Seriously high profile athlete cases are rigged and they rarely get what us normal people would get. Too much money to get out of things. Also I don't think the MLBPA had a strong case...if that was so they would have appealed.
  23. And that is why he is still on this team. Not one single team wants to give up anything for him. The value does not exist.
  24. It has been rumored by multiple people/sources that the Brewers would love to trade Braun so yes I think his value is much lower than some seem to think. If he truly had such high value he would be long gone. And yes I fully believe his contract is above market. This past offseason has proven that. Even best case scenario it is fair market value and that isn't going to get you anything great in a trade by itself.
  25. Look we can try to sugarcoat the stadium and area as much as we want, but the place is not anywhere near the level of a lot of other facilities. Attanasio can get a better/newer/nicer/more high tech complex built somewhere else and that is exactly what will happen. Whether that is in Arizona or Florida I don't think it really matters...what matters is the facilities being the best they can be for the players. I doubt they move out of Arizona...I think they can find what they want locally.
