  1. Well I guess one can officially take Wisconsin off the bubble watch. Maryland and Iowa have both looked bad of late.
  2. You aren't going to get a prospect with Bruce. Reds can trade him and his contract for some boring prospects if they want. They actually almost did it if not for some prospects medicals.
  3. Height isn't the big issue...it is the fact a guy like Prince Fielder flirts with 300 pounds. His range was bad...really bad. If Flores could have nice range and pick them out of the dirt he would be fine at 1st defensively.
  4. Abreu is an easy decision for #3...I would also lean Matz(or Rodon if you like him long term). Lindor is nice...but if pitching is premium maybe go with the pitcher.
  5. Yadiel Rivera and his career .289 OBP is never going to be ready to hit MLB pitching. He's 23 this season. The past 2yrs he's had OBP of 309 (A+/AA similar for both) then took a massive step forward at AA last year 277/345 before struggling at AAA with the promotion. He then killed it in AFL. He's been trending upwards across the board with each level he's advanced. He's definitely not the answer as the backup IF to compete with Perez as he needs to continue to develop in AAA even though his defense is already there. He can be a career utility guy being halfway decent offensively while playing great defense at key IF positions. There's value in that. I will keep waiting for him to actually show up offensively. Outside of 200 at-bats in AA he has been horrid. Guys like him are everywhere...nothing all that special at this point.

  7. Best: The Segura trade. Took on part of a bad contract for a middle infielder one good season from being Top 100 prospect. He looks like he can be a really good player at 2B for us some day. They also got a solid back end of the rotation starter that they could possibly flip in the future for more prospects. Worst: It is a toss up between the Lind and Davis trades. I don't like the Lind trade because of the lottery ticket return. Overwelming chance they all end up as nothing. Could have gotten some future bullpen piece for Lind. Lower ceiling, but can never enough guys to throw in the bullpen. The Davis trade is a bit harder to figure out. If Nottingham stays at catcher GREAT. If he has to move over to first it takes away a giant chunk of the value we are getting back. That is just how I take them at face value in the present. Most of the time trades never work out how you think they will. Everyone thought the Segura trade was great when it was made and we got our offensive+glove SS we wanted, but instead we got two bust pitchers and a borderline starter at SS. Will be interesting to see which moves work out in the end for us and which ones turn out to be nothing. Out of all these guys we are getting excited about one is destined to never be anything at the MLB level.
  8. Bachar is widely considered a borderline Top 100 prospect for the draft.
  9. Hill is just his favorite right now. The full team has yet to report at this point. There is a LOOOOONG time before opening day. I don't think it is a big deal really and even if he starts the season as the starter it isn't a huge concern. I don't think he will hit enough to start every single day. Other guys will have an opportunity to prove themselves and if they can't win a 3B job from Aaron Hill I guess I won't care too much.
  10. Going into spring training the veteran has the job... not really all that surprising. Should be that way...make the younger kids work harder to get the job.
  11. I don't think being the hottest team really matters. One team can stop you pretty quickly. Like every year it takes a mixture of skill, coaching/experiencing, , luck of course, and something a lot of people don't think of...match ups. Being a Kansas fan I have seen some really good teams get knocked out early because of a bad match up. Historically Kansas teams have big bodies to get at it in the paint...when they matched up against a team that could counter that it usually ended in a tourney departure. I can see Wisconsin losing opening weekend or I could see them making it to the Sweet 16...most of that will depend on what teams they draw.
  12. Being a 8/9 seed is an awful place to be no matter what. Oklahoma or Kansas would probably be the worst teams to get...Villanova has the history of being poor in the tourney, but I don't know if that is a good reason to hope for them. I don't know a whole lot about Virginia to know what kind of draw they would be. From brackets I saw being on the opposite side of the bracket to Villanova or Kansas might be the best road for Wisconsin.
  13. I'm not one getting on the Santana bandwagon, but he is the opening day starter and will get a long time to prove himself. Someone would really have to play well to bump him midseason. They need to see what Santana can provide.
  14. Personally I think Riley Pint will end up in the bullpen so I won't be too sad when a team picks him before us. He has the stuff the be the best reliever in the game though if the rotation doesn't work out. I am sure one of the 4 teams in front of us will take that gamble with a floor so high.
  15. ...or his agent. Or Braun. Probably Braun
  16. Seems like he found the right attitude about being on a garbage team. I (as others) appreciate his candor. But I think he can say what he wants and still be diplomatic about it. I think he's realized being in a clubhouse full of guys would be difficult when you say "I don't want to be on this team because they really suck" He didn't back down from his statement. He says "I have no regrets about what I said, I was just being honest", but he does say he has a new mindset, is excited about helping the young guys out, and wants to just get on the field, play ball, and knows that the Brewers have great fans, win or lose. Fair. Truthful. Diplomatic. We'll see how it plays out. His main problem was the way it came across. That he thought the Brewers would suck, didn't want to suck, and more complaining. He still admitted they will be bad this year in his new comments, but had a more positive outlook to it. Like he would actually be apart of the team and help the team. His original comments he didn't really emphasize that and made his comments look bad. Now you see him excited to help the guy who is to eventually replace him. His new comments will be taken way better.
  17. Seems like he found the right attitude about being on a garbage team.
  18. He will likely be drafted top 3 and offered over $5mil...the kid is going to get drafted and signed.
  19. I think it really drops off after Villanova, Kansas, and to an extent Oklahoma. All three off those teams have showed they can beat top tier teams and not have bad losses. The former two squads no team wants to play come March. Both of those teams should be popular Final 4 picks, but outside of that I wouldn't bet on a single team. Oklahoma is scary themselves, but have looked vulnerable lately. Should be a year full of upsets in the early rounds...more than usual if you ask me.
  20. I think trading away good players with the draft pick as your main goal can be considered tanking too. If Stearns took a weaker deal now for Davis just to hopefully lose more games that is tanking in my mind. Don't think he did that, but someone can believe that if they so choose.
  21. I think it only seems like tanking because David Stearns is cleaning house. It is clear to me Stearns is going through the team and trading players he doesn't like or he doesn't think will be on the next Brewers contender. It also doesn't seem like he isn't interested in waiting around either. I am just not really sure the goal is tanking because past this year the team should already be on the upswing. Hader, Lopez, Arcia, and Phillips are all Top 100 prospects that will likely play large roles on the 2017 team. We will still have respectable arms in the rotation and we have a steadily amount of good BP arms too. So to me I don't think it is tanking...just David Stearns cleaning house for the new wave of Brewers. I really don't think the amount of possible losses means much when he makes his moves.
  22. You have to consider the throw home too though. Working on assumption RHH typically will hit it harder if they hit it to LF vs. if they slap it to RF. Also while a throw to 3B might not happen as often it is more about preventing it. Stronger arm means the runner is less likely to try and make that advancement. Lastly, if I am correct, I think a majority of stadiums a RFer has to cover more ground. If that means standing a couple feet back that can make a big difference for throws. I also disagree that the two positions are interchangeable. Ryan Braun was much better in LF than he is in RF.
  23. Before he didn't have a chronic thumb or back so his health early in his career means nothing. While he has played 135 and 140 games the last two years respectively he played a large handful of other games injured to the point it was painful to watch. He might as well have been not playing at that point. It is also a mystery how these injuries are going to play out as he gets older which is probably on team's minds too. Probably also doesn't really help he hasn't played since his back surgery too. Clearly there are pretty big concerns regarding his health or else we would have seen him traded for something notable by now. That is going off the rumors that the Brewers are more than willing to trade him and the rumor that no one is willing to give up anything outside of taking on his contract.
  24. The worst thing about that was the fact it was hard for management to commit to a tear down. You aren't going to do it after 2011, you won't after winning 83 in 2012, could have after 2013 but..., in 2014 they should have won the division so hard to blame them for going for it in 2014, and I think when it came to 2015 I think Attanasio wanted one last chance. Yah it is easy to look back in retrospect and say they should have tore down, but in the moment it wasn't so straight forward. Only 1/10 fans would have supported a tear down before last year started. ANYWAY back onto the real topic I wonder how much Braun has a say in going back to LF. I'd think he would be in full support for a move back, but then again maybe he actually thinks he is good out in RF...
