    What I like about Stearns is that he is saying that the Brewers will consistently need to keep replenishing the farm system & MLB roster w/ controllable young talent. Melvin went the opposite way once Weeks/Fielder/Hart/Braun etc got to the Show, transforming the Brewers into a team that extended it's own stars consistently (Bill Hall as an example of the worst type of mistake) and signed free agent, aging pitchers (Looper/Suppan etc). That plan ultimately backfired, longterm, and brought us to where we are today as one of the Worst 5 MLB teams That was not the problem. The real problem was the horrid drafting for an extended period of time and Attanasio's inability to not spend every dollar trying to compete EVERY year. Those two things are what lead to where we are today.

    Except I don't think it's a "bad" contract. Certainly not a bargain, but if he's even a little better than last year, the contract is fine. No way the Brewers should have to eat half his contract, in my opinion. Except the contract is actually bad as it stands. Since there is a long list of constant chronic injuries no one wants to pay him that contract and give up prospects. Production/Talent wise no the contract isn't bad at all, but considering the injuries the contract is borderline bad. That isn't to say that can't change. in 6-12 months MAYBE he can be healthy enough and see the field enough to make a team bite.

    I agree they should be on the right side(I thought they were prior to the Maryland win), but they haven't got much love nationally. They could still find themselves missing out or bring right there on the bubble. I am surprised they aren't respected a little more. They have many solid wins from my perspective. Seems as though they are really weighted down by those bad losses.

    Wisconsin should probably focus on making the tourney before talking about a deep run. They have no good road wins outside of Maryland and they have a number of not so great losses on their resume. Not winning against either Iowa or MSU, losing to a few of the bottom dwellers, and an early exit in the conference tourney may not fair to well come decision time. I think they will get in as one of the more scary double digit seeds, but they haven't punched a ticket yet.

    Perrotto’s piece also contains comments from a scout who feels the Athletics made a “great pickup” in obtaining Khris Davis from the Brewers. “Power has become so much more scarce in recent years that I’m surprised that Oakland could get a guy like Davis so cheaply,” the scout said. (mlbtraderumors.com) This is exactly what I think. I feel this trade was largely focused on opening up a OF spot vs. focusing on getting the best value for Khris Davis. I think the risk of Khris Davis getting worse is way lower than some make it out to be. Of course as long as Nottingham stays at catcher and his bat ends up a force at the MLB level it won't really matter. I do believe he would have been a lot more valuable next off season though. In the end sometimes you take some risks and sometimes you don't...I guess this wasn't one of those times.

    I don't think that is a good example. If he doesn't care I guess he will never be any good with that attitude. Also why are we freaking out over Josh Hader's huge fall league performance, but if Santana does poorly it is nothing? Seems like it should go both ways.

    Ryan Braun is untradeable in the sense that no team wants to give up a lot at his price tag and the Brewers won't trade him just to dump his salary. I just don't think they are motivated if it won't bring them back prospects. If they were to trade him and Lucroy in the next 6 months fans are going to drop like flies. There literally won't be a single notable name on the team. If there isn't a clear reason(outside of saving some money) to trade Braun I just don't think it is worth it. I think they would prefer to pay him the money just to have his name value to fans.

    I really don't like this comparison when it is made. Santana also had the luxury of getting into minor league ball when he was 16 years old while Davis didn't till he was 21. These international guys just develop sooner age wise because of that advantage. It doesn't mean anything past that.

    Totally agree, but I get the sense that some think the return/trade is somehow better because it is an upgrade over Davis anyway. I don't think that should have an barring on how one views the trade.

    there's plennnnnnnty more OF where he came from if he fails. one or more of about 10 new guys will end up working out for us. Immediate Upgrade= Domingo Santana right off the bat in 2016 will be more productive than Khris Davis.

    Domingo Santana an immediate upgrade? Because of what 200 at-bats that weren't even that crazy good? The same guy that just got done hitting .188 in offseason ball? The same guy with 5 errors playing this offseason for a .700 something fielding %? Let's calm down for a second and realize Santana is mostly unproven. His defense is extremely overrated and I honestly don't think he would be all that great in RF seeing he wasn't great there last year for us and seems like he was totally lost this offseason too. I am high on Santana like most of you, but he is no sure thing. Building off of that I think the Brewers should play him in LF. Yes he is a better RFer than Braun, but I think his long term future with us is in LF. Eventually Braun will be traded(imo) and we have better long term RF options than Santana.

    I can now sleep well knowing Davis was indeed worth a top prospect.

    I like the deal assuming Nottingham can stick at catcher. He currently stands as one of the top catching prospects in the game. Not a flashy top 100 prospect, but a top prospect at a thin position so just as good. Also some nice potential in the pitcher. I feel like a Davis trade was always going to happen whether they got a great offer or not. Yes he could improve, but they really needed an OF spot opened up. Thanks for all the bombs Khris Davis

    Good luck ever being able to buy your team in-market without a cable subscription. I have a feeling you are going to be waiting a loooooooong long time. Sports are HUGE for cable companies and the fact you want to cut the cord and only have your sports is exactly why it is not going to happen. They need to keep people connected and sports are one of the major ways they do that.

    Kepler is well with in reason. Actually I would expect more than just Kepler. I have seen some experts peg Will Smith's value as a Berrios return. Now while I don't think that would ever happen I don't think the value is far off. Smith is an elite lefty reliever that can get both sides out. He should easily net a Top 100 prospect.

    Who are you fooling with that "tantalizing upside"? I have always been a Peralta fan, but not even I would think he is more than just a mid rotation guy at best.

    I totally agree he will almost surely demand something(though I could see him just accepting a trade outright). I just don't think there is any way we demands a full on extension. That is just too much and no team is going to do something like that unless they REALLY like him. Most of Lucroy's value is in his cheap 2 year commitment. The big problem for Lucroy is that he really isn't happy here and would prefer to play for a winner. He also only has an 8 team no trade list which also vastly limits his leverage. Players with a lot of leverage usually have a close to full no trade clause and would rather stay put.

    Really? I highly highly highly disagree. What makes you think that? You think he would rather be paid pennies on a garbage team vs. accepting a trade to a good team to play for pennies? Demanding an extension would just be stupid on his part. Staying with the Brewers isn't going to make his contract any better.

    Hey now all I am saying why it could make sense to one. I made it very clear the Brewers would only do it if they REALLY liked him. I also made it VERY clear I would be no fan of such a move and wouldn't do it myself.

    Well in all honestly all he would have to be is a Norichika Aoki type player at third base. I am not saying stat wise, but the value they have at their positions. If he becomes a solid maybe slightly above average third baseman he could be flipped for a solid player. He doesn't figure to get much in terms of years or cash so the risk would be low. I am not advocating such a move, but it wouldn't be outlandish to sign him and have a chance to flip him for something similar to what we got for Aoki or for more lower level flyers. But in that case, why wouldn't a team that wants him just offer more than us in years or dollars and not have to give up anything other than that to get him? Because he is a total wildcard right now. He could be below replacement level or he could be above average. No team wants to waste money and roster space if he turns out to be the former possibility. Even more so if you are looking to be a contender. Now if he turns out to be above average a lot of teams would then have interest since they know he can put up the stats and is worth the money/roster spot.

    No trade list is a total non issue to me. If Lucroy is all about winning like he claims it should be a minor hoop to jump through. I would like him to be trade before the season, but I personally think it will be next off season.

    If you believe in his skills the price will probably be cheap enough you could flip him in the future. I however don't think he will hit enough and his age is much too high for me to take a flyer on an international guy. Maybe the scouts love him or something in Milwaukee though. Basically just because he may not compete with him doesn't mean we should just write him off the list.

    It's relevant because Hamilton agreed to a reduced contract when he was traded. The only reason the player's union allowed it was because he was going to be taking home the same amount of money as he was in LA but Texas would be paying him less because of the difference in state income tax. I would assume trading him again would bring up the same issue. Right so you are saying he has a full no trade clause. That is a financial issue, but that still has nothing to do with the Rangers trying to withhold money that they are supposably getting from the Angels. Two totally different financial issues.
