  1. Another fantastic Jean Segura stat: DEADLAST in BB% with a 2.2% walk rate His K/BB ratio also was ranked DEADLAST OBP 5th Worst Slugging % 5th Worst OPS 4th Worst 3rh Highest Ground Ball % 5th Lowest Hard contact % I could go on forever...how someone defends Jean Segura at this point is just amazing. The guy has probably the worst offense in baseball and his defense is nothing special to make up for it.
  2. You know I would like to think that, but Villar in 128 PA had more WAR than Segura has had the last two full years combined(1200 PA approx.). The only thing that might save Segura's value is his name recognition from making an all star team. I think we held onto him too long though. Personally should have dumped him at the trade deadline if you ask me. Hopefully we can get something half useful and a CY Sneed like return would make me ecstatic.
  3. Corey Hart's contracts were perfectly fine...actually they were pretty darn good. They gave Bill Hall a little bit of money(wasn't anything that crazy) after over 1000 PAs of elite play at the hot corner. Hard to fault him for handing out that contract. Rickie Weeks is another one that comes up, but then again that one could have easily worked out had injuries not derailed his career. Weeks was really good in 2010 and 2011. Doug Melvin did exactly what a small market needed to do. Try to get players locked up early to cheap contracts. I am sure you don't want to mention Ryan Braun or Jonathan Lucroy in that argument do you? The problem he had is I think he was a bit too careless with it. The only two he ever offered that probably were a bad idea from the get go were Segura and Axford. Both of those players came out of no where and were playing way better than they really were capable of.
  4. Thank you for attempting to sugar coat that somehow. Nothing like a 1 WAR player. Though in reality he is proving to be close to 0. Jean Segura was a total flop and did nothing for us. Hellweg flopped and is gone. Who even knows about Pena. In the end we might get nothing out of this trade.
  5. The main problem is the fact his bat was so advanced it was ready in a year. Obviously learning how to catch at the pro level takes years. He is not a good enough catcher to throw back there at the MLB level...at least not if you are the competing Cubs. I guess a team like the Brewers could let him butcher it back there at the MLB level trying to learn it, but that would be quite the task. Not to mention before being called up this year he was only throwing out 18% of runners...yikes. Realistically I don't think being a catcher is in his future. The Cubs still say they would like to put him back there, but I doubt it is worth it to them and probably any other team.
  6. [sarcasm]Shoot guys back down while you can. I forgot he was in the war room hearing the negotiations.[/sarcasm]
  7. There are so many players in the mix, hard to say how this will all shake out by April. Could be more trades, injuries, etc. I'm not a big Segura fan, but the guy has shown in the past he has some power and can get on base. Lots of young players have these ups and downs early in their career, and I think it's worth having one more look. Just look at all the guys the Brewers have been acquiring. Many are coming off down years, it's why they're available. So why not take the same chance on guys we already have under control? Throwing out the first three months of his career Segura has two months with an OPS over .700. He doesn't have power and it is never coming back. As far as his OBP skills have you looked at his stats? Outside of his first three months in 2013 his OBP isn't even sniffing .300. If that is good OBP skills the sport is in a sad sad state. I am sorry but the guy grounded into more double plays than he had walks. That is a joke and even sadder when you consider he is pretty fast. I guess he doesn't strikeout too often, but the amount of weak ground balls he hits and the amount of first pitch outs he has probably takes away any real positive. 14 Double Plays Grounded Into / 13 Walks / .280 OBP If anyone can someone turn Jean Segura into an average SS that guy deserves coach of the year. There is so much wrong with his overall game it would take something really special to turn him around.
  8. His bonus was pretty big for the time. He was considered a top prospect from the Dominican. I think the problem is pitching prospects don't really get much love if they aren't highly touted in general while a hitter can get rave reviews for one tool.
  9. Do you even know anything about the Astros payroll last year? Their highest paid player was $10mil and his name is Scott Feldman. Their payroll was second to last and not even $70mil.
  10. Baring or an injury or continuing to be average at the plate. People still think that Lucroy will turn things around and be more in between his 2014 and 2015. If he starts the year off cold his value will plummet and be more in line with what Gomez/Fiers brought in. He can be healthy and still watch his value go down. This is our last big tradeable asset. Lets not mess this up and hold onto it too long.
  11. Peralta actually had a pretty big bonus if I remember right. Further proving their prospect ranking means nothing for international prospects in the low minors. Even guys getting a couple million in bonus money don't get too much love.
  12. Like, ever? Pretty difficult to run a team that way. As for the Cubs, Vogelbach is a DH so no thank you, but I would start by asking for 4 of their top 10 prospects (however Milwaukee values them) for sure. Not only would I start by asking for 4 of the top 10, id end with it too. Unless this is a game changing trade that is at a minimum the caliber of the Astros deal, there is NO reason to trade Luc now. There are SO MANY reasons to trade Lucroy now. Only reason not to is if they just are getting low ball offers. His value will never get higher...never.
  13. Once again it has now been proven twice Adam Lind has little trade value. Adam Lind was really no better than when we got him and he proved once again he is not very durable. Yes he somehow made it to 500 at bats, but we got lucky and teams know that. He is also a platoon bat and teams just don't like giving up value for that type of player. People keep calling this a bad trade, but that was the best we were offered how is that a bad trade? Why does it matter what Ramirez got? We are talking about Lind! Not Ramirez There is also no knowing if we were ever truly offered Zunino or Peterson. Maybe that was a big lie or maybe we were adding more to the deal in those tumors. None of us know that.
  14. Where is the source for this rumor? I would LOVE to trade him to the Cubs. Why wouldn't we want to steal their promising prospects for a guy who won't be with them when we are eventually competing again or a guy they overpay to keep around as he gets old? This would be a dream and I wouldn't need anymore more than from another team.
  15. I think you must name after 6 months so not really much to look at between now and then. It is possible of course, but even if it was mid season that costs a team like Seattle more risk. Who says they would want that?
  16. Everyone hoping it cripples them should probably realize he is only 26 and in 6 years the tail end of that contract won't look too bad.
  17. Don't know if this was mentioned, but Cecchini was tabbed as our #20 prospect by MLB.com. He is a nice risk for us. Might be one of those guys who could figure it out late.
  18. You could literally change teenagers to anything you wanted. Of course they may not develop....everyone knows that.
  19. I will take a Scooter Gennett/Jonathan Villar combo ANY day of the week over Jean Segura at 2B. They would be worth 100x more on offense and maybe slightly less on defense. I wouldn't even want Jean Segura as a utility infielder.
  20. Wei Chung Wang? He was already selected in the Rule 5...so I think the understanding was that he couldn't be then.
  21. Lambson seems to me like a flyball pitcher and a lefty specialist. So that probably wasn't helping him knock on the door to get up.
  22. I actually don't mind it. I expected nothing for K-Rod. David Stearns wanted catcher depth and I guess this is what he was hinting to. Thank god we don't have to watch Juan Centeno if someone gets hurt. Also wouldn't be surprised to see him beat of Maldonado for the backup gig. Caught 47% of would be base stealers last year and 37% over his 10 year career. Not too bad.
  23. Yah people are a wee bit too excited over this. Don't get me wrong glad we got another guy to throw at the wall and hope he sticks, but this isn't anything to get excited about. Glad we will have some guys to stick at 3rd though and SS
  24. Complete overpay. Jean Segura is not good people and he is not worth much. Getting a marginal prospect in the lower minors would be about as good as you can hope for.
