  1. Name pronunciation aside that was one big boy hitting in that video. Could have had dinner and still thrown him out.
  2. Not sure that trade make sense for either side. Adding Segura is not going to fix anyone's problem at SS. Ross is a fine pitcher and not expensive like some of you are making him out to be. Not to mention the Padres don't really want to trade him because they at least want to pretend to compete.
  3. You guys are coming up with some awful packages...How do you even come up with a package for Lucroy and not include any of a teams Top 5 prospects? Lucroy would never go to the D Backs without Bradley coming back and even then I am not sure the Brewers would entertain the Brewers. Trading Lucroy better get you one big time prospect to wave around.
  4. He is involved in a lot of back and forth roster moves. I would expect that.
  5. Do you understand what ceiling means? Yup and most scouts are not going to give Hader a high ceiling. Obviously like any other player they could put it all together and be a star...I can make that comment about most minor league pitchers. It's just that those odds get so low to a point where you aren't going to say their ceiling is any higher. Like I said I am not arguing that Hader has this ceiling, that ceiling, future bullpen arm, a starter, or Chris Sale. All I am pointing out is why scouts are not highly touting him right now. A players ceiling isn't concrete it can change. Hader can go from a bullpen future to possible ace by next year. I remember 2 years ago people called Arcia just a solid future starter and I thought he was a future star primed to be a Top 20 prospect. It happened...
  6. Food for thought: The D Backs TV deal is worth 2.5 times more than their old one was paying them. If the Brewers get a similar increase, which I would expect, they will go from $20mil to $50mil a year...that is an extra $30mil of extra cash flow. Couple that with the huge gains in revenue sharing lately and you are talking a lot of money we don't have now, but will have in the future. We will be in a similar position that the D Backs are in now. Lots of new money and not a high payroll. The Brewers going out and making a giant splash is not that outlandish come 2019ish. Maybe they don't go out and get Greinke/Price, but a Cueto level pitcher is certainly possibly. Maybe they still can't find a 1B and they sign someone like Chris Davis. The league isn't getting more unbalanced...actually if anything it is getting more balanced. Were the D Backs players for a Zack Greinke type player 5 year ago? No, but they are now.
  7. NFL contracts are softened because of roster size and salary cap. Their salary cap is only $145mil...incredible. The NFL is making so much money player contracts would explode if that salary cap was lifted. Players would actually have a reason to go to free agency since right now you don't see young elite players hit FA.. I can't even fathom what a guy like Aaron Rodgers would fetch if he hit FA after his first Packers extension. However the NFL would probably be a more balanced free for all since their TV deal is for the entire league and teams can't independently sign one.
  8. It takes two to tango. You aren't just going to put in a hard salary cap and call it a day. The players union isn't going to roll with that. I also think you guys are making a bigger deal about this than it really is. Yes player salaries are going up, but so is the amount of money these teams are making. Yes other teams payrolls are going up, but so will the Brewers. Others teams had big increases in TV deals and the Brewers will watch theirs increase too. As long as the luxury tax stays on its current pace(increased slightly every handful of years) I don't expect the playing field to be any more or less uneven. It is pretty clear teams do not want to go over that luxury tax and will stay under it. It's really hard to predict since the game is evolving so rapidly, but I don't think there is any cause for outcry yet.
  9. They won 79 games last year. Huge improvement and they have a solid offense. The only question in my mind, outside of the usual bullpen for any tean, is their starting rotation. It isn't all that deep and they could struggle if injuries hit them. I would expect them to go get another solid starter by trade...but that is just me.
  10. That is a shame. I wonder if teams knew he wouldn't accept a low contract offer? Sounded like a fringy starter, but a foreign gamble none the less. Probably can make more staying in Korea. Versatility probably hurt him too.
  11. This thread started in 2013...so I mean it isn't that many pages when you consider that.
  12. Would make a lot of sense. Might be one of the reasons he wanted all those 40 man spots open. Could easily pick him up and throw him into the mix with all the other guys we have picked up this off season. I probably wouldn't give him first shot at either 3B or 1B, but I am sure someone will not work out or get injured paving the way for him to get a shot to hit everyday.
  13. Sounds like you aren't a season ticket holder and that is probably why you don't see many game used deals. There are some season ticket guys who go that private day and get all the deals in a flash.
  14. It is an interesting idea, but Khris Davis straight up is an overpay. Yes Bundy has some high potential we all know that...but there are serious injury concerns and he has no options left. His lack of options isn't a big deal to the Brewers, but it is for the Orioles. Since he can't be removed from their 25 man roster they almost have to burn a roster spot just to hold onto him. Not something a legit playoff contender would want to do. They don't have a lot of leverage in trade talks with that kind of situation. Davis for Bundy is a nice start though.
  15. I know A LOT can(and will) change, but I would be really surprised if we drafted a bat #5. There are 4 pitchers who are usually considered 1-4 in rankings. Past that the best bats available are mostly OFers. Not that we should draft based on need(or lack of), but we are loaded with OFers up and down the minors. That would be a questionable pick if you ask me. At this point it would be an easy pick of Groome, Puk, Hansen, or Pint depending on who dropped to us. I can't fathom the Brewers not going with a potential ace with their first pick.
  16. Why the heck do I have to bet on him getting a FIP in the 2s!? Just getting back to a stat line similar to 2014 would give him a lot more value than he does now.
  17. Someone give Boras a trophy for that contract. EDIT: And to think someone wants to give The Shark $90mil+...
  18. I find this kind of annoying. It is the Packers who are in a totally different sport, who cares? Not only that but Green Bay doesn't have an MLB team. I hate how athletes have to pretend to like that cities teams and what not just because they play one sport there.
  19. Hader is less than 18 months older than Gatewood. There's not a huge age disparity. I'm sorry let me clarify...more experienced. So Gatewood in the low minors vs. Hader is in AAA Too add: Scouts think Gatewood has "boom" potential and Hader is more of a mid rotation arm at best from the looks of it now. Yes Hader could find some magic and be something more, but from a scouting perspective it supposably is too much of a long shot to write down at this point. Once again don't kill the messenger, but that is just why I think he isn't getting the love some want.
  20. Because Jacob Gatewood has star potential and Hader/Houser are both most likely headed for the bullpen someday. That is the main reason most will rank them like that. Hader has all the ceiling/star potential that Gatewood has and a much higher floor. Hey man don't kill the messenger...from the article: "The Chris Sale comps are fun, but the more likely landing spot for Hader is as a high-leverage reliever who can get both left and right-handed hitters out, but you can’t blame the Brewers for seeing if he can start." I am sorry, but not a lot of experts are jumping on the Hader train right now. His control is still a huge hurdle for him and refining his secondary pitches. He still has time to grow, but right now most think he is on track for the bullpen. Jake Gatewood most likely gets the nod because of age. Too young to start cutting him down for every flaw he has and he was highly touted from the start. When young it is all about the potential while being an older prospect they start to critique those flaws/concerns. My understanding is Josh Hader is being touted as a fancier Will Smith.
  21. The Phillies went that route, and won a WS. THey're now a mess, and their fans refer to Ruben Amaro Jr as "Ruin Tomorrow Jr". I'm sure they're happy they won a world series, but I'm sure they'd also like to have a franchise that is set up for long term success more. I don't think the Phillies went that route. Who was their big ticket FA signing? That team was loaded with a bunch of their own homegrown studs. They signed all those disaster contracts AFTER winning the world series. They also have refused to rebuild for a while now...also leading to their current failure. Winning a world series with a cheap Ryan Howard and then signing him to a disaster contract two years later is not what I am talking about. That contract did not help them win it in 2008.
  22. You guys want to just give Peralta away? Mid Rotation starters are expensive these days. If he returns to his 2014 self that is a really good trade chip. Trading him just to basically dump him seems a bit silly to me.
  23. Those sources are less than impressive.
  24. Braun has also been proven in clutch situations and in the postseason. Which, (despite Sabermetricians dismissing such a thing), I think has real value in if nothing else human perception, which still drives value & trades more than computers. (I think/hope.) I don't know that teams care much about postseason stats. One team just gave the richest contract to pitcher ever who has been horrible in the postseason countless times. As far as Braun being clutch I think a lot of that was just a coincidence with him being such a phenomenal hitter back in the 2011 Era. He now noticeably strikes out more in clutch situations. I am going to guess that is because clutch situations are mainly against relievers, which these days are power arms, and Braun has tended to struggle with high heat...not being able to turn on it and make solid contact. Also not necessarily "clutch" situations, but he is grounding into a lot more double plays than he used to. I am not saying he isn't clutch, but not something that stands out over similar hitters of his talent. Then again I don't think either postseason success or clutchness factor into trading for a long term guy. If we are talking a 3 month rental maybe then some postseason success gets you giddy.
  25. All the bolded teams have had, what I consider, an extended period of success in recent memory...so 7/9 or 78% of rich teams have had prolonged success in the last 10 years. How many of the not rich teams? Cardinals...Rays...anyone else? So 2/21 or 10%. It is obvious you can buy wins...there is just no denying that. However, can you buy a championship? Well that is a whole different story.
