  1. Personally I hope we rebuild fast enough that he can be trade bait for deals in that time. I don't ever see him getting a chance with the Brewers. Santana and Phillips will likely have two of the positions locked down and Braun likely will have the other one locked down too...unless he moves to first. Can't forget about Khris Davis either. He will probably stick around for the foreseeable future too. Honestly he really needs to start pushing through the minors here real quick and hope Braun moves to first base. If those things don't happen his only real hope is for a major injury to happen when he is ready. He seems to be a outfielder only and that isn't the greatest spot to be in on this team. Wouldn't be surprised if he never gets a true shot here.
  2. Agreed, this issue is extremely overblown. I never hear about this, but you know what I do hear about? How his stuff isn't amazing(no love from scouts) and his contract is not that good. Who is interested in a closer getting paid market value, is old, and doesn't have good stuff? Yup...crickets. Seriously I can't imagine anyone cares about the domestic violence stuff. It was barely reported when it happened and no one cared then. I doubt the world is going to explode the second he gets traded elsewhere. And the most major piece of evidence that literally no one cares is the fact we have ALREADY TRADED him with this domestic violence issue over him. Has everyone forgotten we traded him back in 2013 after the incident in the 2012 off season? But now three years later we are going to lose our minds over it? It wasn't even mentioned then! I only saw it as an informational tidbit on how the Brewers let him go, but changed their minds to give him the minor league deal. Why this is even still debatable I will never know.
  3. Park contract 29-33 age seasons...$8mil or so average salary Lucroy contract 32-36 age seasons...$15mil or so average salary Not to mention resigning Lucroy means no elite prospect package and means spending even more money. Also you never know how numbers are going to transfer to the MLB. It is almost a gamble and you just have to trust your scouts. That Korean did pretty swell for the Pirates and his stats or similar or lesser to Park's. Japanese players work out either way depending on their stats in Japan. Are you saying just because Rogers could mash in Korea he can have similar stats to Kang had last year for the Pirates? No, Rogers can't even dream about a 124 OPS+. I am not saying we should have signed Park(I don't think we should have), but what you said is flat out wrong and doesn't make sense.
  4. The only way it makes sense is if Plouffe is better than prospects being offered, but you really want Berrios so you want a deal to work out. So you take Plouffe hoping to later trade him for the good prospects you wanted originally while still getting Berrios. So maybe a 3 team deal type of thing makes sense, but in no way would I ever trade for Plouffe and let him ever have an at-bat here. That is literally the only way Plouffe to the Brewers would make sense...and really he isn't ever going to be a Brewers in that situation it is just a pit stop.
  5. Plouffe is a good player, but he only has 2 years until free agency. I want longer term players - not just a couple of years of a guy. Perhaps if we were contending, but I don't see that happening the next two years. I guess I see it differently as in he is a guy that can be our guy there for this season (at least until July) as well as next season until July. We get .5 to 1.5 years out of him as a filler for us as well as flipping him for prospects for the future years. Just because we may not contend in the next 1-3 years doesn't mean we shouldn't be signing/trading for some of these guys that can fill now and also help our future. Why are you trading for filler? Where does this help us for the future. A .750 OPS third baseman with above average defense isn't going to be cheap. What are the chances he gains notable value before we trade him? Is it even worth the risk? No, probably not...
  6. I don't find it surprising. Contending team making a nice gamble type move. A little big for a smaller payroll team, but nothing outlandish.

  8. Would the Brewers really commit in the neighborhood of $50mil for this guy? Seems like a big stretch. I know they have wanted a big international market splash lately, but I don't think this should be it. A lot of risk here. However, it would be nice to see money be spent in these down years like this. Not my money... I think Twins sign him and move Mauer to full time DH. Which then pushes Sano to the field.
  9. It doesn't make a difference if the fans know. It matters if the GMs know, and there are 30 of them that do. That simplifies things then. They don't care at all if it makes them win. That has been proven many times. All about $$$$$.
  10. How many fans know of the K-Rod situation? How many know of the Ray Rice situation? How covered was the K-Rod situation? How covered was the Ray Rice situation? Ahh so you found your difference.
  11. John since you failed to read his post closely enough or the article here you go: Olney further tweets that catcher Jonathan Lucroy and closer Francisco Rodriguez “are available for trade talks” as well, as new Milwaukee GM David Stearns aims to make his team younger and build for the future.
  12. Yes, but that would defeat the purpose and basis of his argument.
  13. That kind of thinking is exactly why the Brewers have had 1 World Series appearance in the last 33 seasons, and the Royals are World Champs. "Gord where the hell is my chocolate chip scone?" Melvin
  14. I think I would take that for Lind. The kid is 19 years old...give him some time he has a decent ceiling. Something I doubt we will get out of a player for Lind. The other guy...yah he is sort of an aging borderline prospects, but hey might as well take a flyer. That would be a decent deal for Lind. That deal for Lucroy though...I would have to go cheer for a different team.
  15. Pretty much Alcides Escobar with a better bat. Got me dreaming of that 3.5 WAR shortstop...which would be borderline Top 5 in the league.
  16. If there is any reasonable deal on the table before the start of the season he should be gone. No excuse to even risk injury with him...unless of course his market is dry this off season. Would be surprised if he lasts much past the winter meetings.
  17. The only reason we got ANYTHING for Estrada is because Toronto had exactly what we wanted and they had no use for that asset(Lind). Toronto took a flyer that Estrada would return back to career norms as a one year commitment. If not for that specific deal I am quite confident Estrada would have been none tendered or traded for filler. Deal worked out for both teams. None one got screwed in that deal.
  18. Yup almost winning 100 games and competing in the NLCS is grasping for the cup. Thanks for the good laugh. Also what the heck does Ash have to do with all that? Ash's job was to do desk duty and run errands for Melvin. He negotiated and talked to who Melvin wanted to do business with. Blaming Ash for something is grasping for the cup, plate, bowl, and the whole kitchen table.
  19. Ryan Braun is signed through 2020. Only way he is here in 2021 is if we want to pay him $11mil and I doubt a 37 year old crippled OFer will be worth that.
  20. Sure that would make sense if that was the only deal available or no one was offering prospects. I highly doubt that will be the case and therefor such a deal for Plouffe only would be really questionable. Sure he could be traded later when we aren't contending, but it seems like an unneeded risk. Why not just get the prospects now and get them into our system?
  21. Great a 3B fix when we aren't contending. Just the trade we need to make so we don't contend ever.
  22. My biggest issue outside of the total lack of a change-up: His slider is not an effective pitch when behind in the count. That just simply is not going to work if he is starting. It is pretty easy for hitting to lay of that slider when they are ahead in the count. Another problem is his slider isn't a very good first pitch. Over the course of an inning that isn't too big of a deal that he pretty much throws a fastball to start an at bat, but when it comes to 7 innings against the same hitters? How hard to see/predict is that slider after 2-3 at bats?
  23. I feel like targeting a a guy who has played 12 games the last two years may not be the right move. Not to mention all those games were as a DH. The guy hasn't played the field since 2013. I get it he is young and had massive potential a few years ago, but he has now had surgery on his shoulder twice. Way too injury prone to center a Lucroy trade.
  24. I definitely favor trading Lucroy. You see lots of positional players playing very well into their mid 30s, but when it comes to catcher that decline is almost a for sure thing. Come those extension years you are talking a 80 OPS+ catcher. That is probably pretty close to average, but is that really good enough to overpay him for ease of mind at the catcher position long term? Obviously there is an injury concern with Lucroy too. Always getting weird injuries and now has a bit of a concussion concern. Do the Brewers really want to keep that long term? Maybe you take a gamble at 3/$30mil and it works out fine in the end. I don't see Lucroy taking that and I don't see the Brewers giving him close to "market value".
  25. It's not about Smith's age. As a starter, he was not very good. A 5.32 ERA, 1.606 WHIP, and a K/BB of 1.79 just aren't very defensible. But over the last three years as a reliever, we're looking at a 3.22 ERA, 1.232 WHIP, and a K/BB of 3.55. So, I think that tells the tale. Now, the 12.2 K/9IP Smith has posted tells me that the best route to maximize his value is to make him the closer by trading K-Rod this off-season. K-Rod should net a top 30 prospect (albeit closer to 30 than 1). Buy out his arby years, and have him close for two or three years, rack up a few dozen saves. Then the Brewers can flip Smith for a higher return than if he is perceived as a LOOGY/middle relief guy. I hope you mean Top 30 as in an organizations Top 30...not all of MLB.
