  1. I'd just gamble on a Cuban player(s) at that point.
  2. I really disagree with that. You are treating him like he is Mark Reynolds and can't get 20 doubles in a year. Khris Davis has legitimate XBH power...not just homers. That has a lot more value than a guy who just hits fly balls and prays. Unless Adam Lind has a nice end to the season not one single player will get as many doubles as Khris Davis had last year. He lives/dies by XBHs which to me is way way more valuable.
  3. A lose to the Reds has tied us with the Rockies for the #3 pick...Rockies win tiebreaker due to worse record last year.
  4. His average has not declined unless you really want to use 130 ABs as an example in 2013...no thanks. He has only hit .010 lower than last year. That is nothing significant. Averages fluctuate every year.
  5. I could see us jumping up to 3 or 4. Over half our remaining games are against the Cubs or Cards...we could get bashed around pretty bad if the offense goes cold.
  6. Brewers still have a shot at #3. They only trail that spot by 2 games. Of course there are quite a few other teams in between them and that pick. On the other hand they have a comfortable lead of 3.5 games over the Tigers for #7
  7. "Did someone say my name?" http://www.rantsports.com/mlb/files/2014/04/garza.jpg
  8. Trading Lind this offseason is like throwing a draft pick in the deal too. Lind should be getting a QO after '16 as long as he's healthy I'd think. You want to offer a 33.5 year old injury prone 1st baseman somewhere around $16mil for one year? That would be really risky to assume they could do that. I can't imagine more than a 2 year deal and what will he need to do to get that? Another stellar season and a clean bill of health...a lot to ask for from Lind. Would Lind even be confident enough to get 2/$25mil somewhere to pass up on the QO? Lind has been very good for us and he was recently with the Jays, but teams probably still view him as a platoon guy with injury problems. That and a player getting well into his 30s.
  9. Umm he best be a lot better than Prince. Prince was throwing up a -2.5 dWAR every year. If Braun does that he will be a 1 WAR player.
  10. Maybe if Lucroy, Braun, and Garza were all traded together for just prospects(no Mauer) it would make at least some sense.
  11. Or maybe we would have picked Covey regardless...never know. Maybe we really wanted a righty, really wanted a prep arm, or we didn't like Sale's arm slot. Sometimes the guy you would rather have had turns out to be a bust and you take the less touted guy who turns into an ace. Sometimes you don't get the guy you wanted, but down the road it turns out to be good. Really I think anywhere in the Top 8 picks is pretty good. No matter what you are going to have quite a selection of high profile guys. Sure there might be less to pick from, but it it won't be as big of a deal as good scouting and pure luck will be. Also with next years draft be so pitcher heavy I wouldn't be surprised to see some teams focus on offense more and get pitching in the later rounds. I also see a few teams I don't think would consider taking a pitcher Top 5(Reds, Rockies). In the end I would much rather be picking Top 3, but Top 7 ain't too shabby.
  12. Without a doubt many top of the rotation pitchers are being picked in the Top 15, but many if not more are actually picked outside of the Top 5 and somewhere else in the Top 15. I went back to the late 1990's and honestly teams outside the Top 5 were having better luck finding an ace. Since 1999 Top 5: Gerrit Cole David Price Justin Verlander Josh Beckett Picks 5-15: Jose Fernandez Matt Harvey Chris Sale Madison Bumgarner Tim Lincecum Clayton Kershaw Max Sherzer Jared Weaver Zack Greinke Barry Zito Ben Sheets I don't see where picking in the Top 5 makes you more likely to walk away with an ace. Now I understand a lot of this can depend on a teams specific needs, but it isn't like pitchers aren't being selected in the Top 5. Many are being selected and many are just turning into total busts(Mark Rogers!).
  13. Point being everyone is so concerned over something so small and ignoring the most important thing. If we continue to draft the way we have it won't matter if we draft #1 or #30
  14. Lohse isn't under contract for another year so that is not comparable at all. The Brewers can't wait and see if Lohse can turn it around next year...they could hypothetically do that with Garza.
  15. If they are putting him straight back into the rotation next year I just don't see the reason for such a move. Unless of course there are injury concerns. I mean sure they can get a tiny look at other players...but that really won't tell them much. A start or two is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. I'd be for this move if they were taking away his spot and make him earn it back, but they are basically taking 4-5 starts away and have already named him to the 2016 rotation. Really confusing if you ask me. Makes it sound like they are just trying to avoid paying him more in the future. Which I really don't care about, but the players union will and so will players around the league.
  16. What a great example of two sides being dumb. Both sides are being ridiculous.
  17. Darn I was hopping to add another guy who will strike out in 50% of his at-bats.
  18. And let me say this. Our problem we need to worry about for next years draft is not where we are drafting, but finding the good players at that pick. There will be future all stars at pick #7 and I will almost bet a future Cy Young will also be on the board. Just for giggles I decided to go to a recent draft by random just to prove my point. Hilariously I picked 2006 and I honestly had no idea who was in that draft, here are some of the picks in the first round: #7 Clayton Kershaw #10 Tim Lincecum #11 Max Scherzer There is talent at every single pick in the Top 10. Each of those teams could easily walk away with a franchise player. You guys should be more worried about the effectiveness of our scouting department. Because chances are there will be multiple future aces when our turn comes up. The Kansas City Royals got to pick before EVERYONE else in 2006 yet came away with a pitcher who has less than 3 WAR in his career.
  19. These guys need to build innings not get to where they were last year or close to it. Jungmann looks like he will get to about 180innings and last year he had 150innings...perfect. Inning limits come into play with guys coming off serious injury or guys who pitched very little the year prior(<125innings typically). Maybe if someone gets injured you can use it as an excuse to shut them down completely, but presently they are all healthy and going to throw as much as they can. It has nothing to do with those guys. It is the fact K-Rod is on this team still. You don't just pull away the job from him like that. Even if you plan to trade him it still wouldn't be wise. You would basically be telling all of baseball you intend to trade him in the off season. I see no point and as you said the experience they would get is very minimal...why even risk negative consequences?
  20. I totally get what you are trying to say, but what I am getting at is these are just things no MLB team would do. It just isn't apart of the game. The only thing I really think they could do is maybe give 3B to someone outside of Herrera...maybe Dominguez or maybe if they really wanted to Olt. Maybe you sit some star guys 1-2 games a week, but 3 may be a bit much. Other than that they are really just doing what any other MLB team would likely do.
  21. They could make an interesting roster next year if they wanted to. You could go: C- Lucroy 1B- Lind 2B- Gennett/Platoon Partner 3B- TBD(Freese possibly) SS- Arcia LF- Davis CF- Phillips RF- Braun 1. Zimmerman 2. Nelson 3. Jungmann 4. Peralta 5. Garza(maybe someone else) Bullpen=Solid So I guess you could make an interesting 2016 team if you really wanted to. Now is that team going to compete? Probably not unless Arcia and Phillips both hit the ground running and the rotation does well. I surely wouldn't do it and neither will the Brewers...but you could.
  22. I don't agree with this at all because many fans bought tickets to that ADVERTISED fan appreciation game in October. To just move it? Lame if you ask me.
  23. MLB teams don't tank or attempt to lose games. The Brewers won't do it and it will never happen. Right or wrong that is how it is. Counsell is not playing for his job right now they are just doing what any normal MLB team does...try to win.
  24. Not hard to see the potential with him. A lot of pop in his bat...maybe 25-30homerun type power. Give him time and see if he can put it together. He is still very inexperienced at the MLB level.
