He would be a minor piece in a deal. He had a decent batting line last year and 2013-2014 he had a combined 7 dWAR. It isn't like he would be the center piece.
There hasn't been any talk of pieces outside of Gomez being talked about, but Segura and/or Parra could easily find their way into this deal. Brewers like Flores and Lagares.
Sounds like they want to make Gomez into longer controlled MLB ready pieces. Clever idea and could work if they get the right players and go big in FA. Before you grab the pitch fork you should give it a chance. They still have a solid core where getting players controllable through at least 2019 isn't a bad idea. Pure prospects are risky and flop a lot.
What you think Gomez is worth or what you want may not be the same as what the Brewers will get. Gomez may be worth Matz, but if the market won't give it you won't get it. Wheeler+ might be the best thing available. You and the Brewers both would prefer Matz...may not get it though.
From my friend I talked to who works for the Orioles said they were interested in Gomez but the Brewers wanted Gausman plus more in return. The Indians are interesting but I am not all that familiar with their minor league system and what they could offer for Gomez. They have a Carlos Gomez like lefty outfielder as their top prospect. Not much pitching wise
Zach Wheeler plus some might be good value for Gomez. Gomez has had nagging injuries and has not been the great player he was the last two years. Add that with his temper and maybe teams are down on him. Mets have been the only team motivated to get him so that is likely a sign they are our best chance.
I am going to be super dissapointed if the rumored Wheeler/Flores combo is what gets Gomez. Wheeler is good, but nothing really outside of him? Teams really that down on Gomez?
Who reliable said that?
I don't know if he's a reliable source, but something to note, I guess. No one else is jumping on that boat and more notable people are saying it is not Cespedes. Not to sure about that guy.
I'm not going to lose my mind if the deadline is quite minus the rentals...but if we go into next season with Lind and Gomez I will be quite concerned.
