    I wouldn't bet a penny on that 2017. That line up is pretty lack luster and the rotation wouldn't be anything special unless Jimmy Nelson turns into a legit #2. That would be a borderline contender is most went right...much goes wrong and it would be sub .500 really fast. That makes me think even more that he should be traded.

    Why even do that? Just DFA him...no point in putting him in the bullpen at this point. Dumping him for nothing would be pointless. Someone is going to be willing to give up something, even if it's just cash, for him. If we DFA him he either gets released or someone trades for him. Doesn't mean we automatically release him.

    Wow just noticed Peralta shouldn't be back till the end of the month or so...looks like the end of Lohse is still a couple weeks away.

    I wonder if this is the breaking point and they make the All Star game meaningless? Even then the rest of baseball still has a problem with 7/8 players being Royals.

    Apologizes if it came off sounding a tad harsh. I was writing it quite fast and I can see how it could sound that way. While I did see your note on the numbers being the least important part they are way off. Any minimum past round 2 would not make sense because that is when teams could start drafting college seniors. Also the better ideas I was referring to were getting medicals and then international player integration. I also could see making the draft shorter if I was aware of any negatives. I don't understand why that is a problem...but maybe I am missing the boat on that one.

    I wonder what effect this All Star debacle will have on the future. They can't possibly just let this slide without making changes.

    You mean when Wang was not on the team? I think the argument was we burned out the bullpen because our good relievers got used up early in the season. I don't buy that argument at all though. Every team has a guy in the back of the pen who barely gets used. Even the "burning out the bullpen" excuse doesn't make a lot of sense. We have a full bullpen this year and still have two guys among league leaders as far as being used goes(Smith, Jeffress). Nearly every team has two guys at the back of the pen that are worthless. There was no one better that was going to be usable in big innings. Anyone else, like Wooten, would have been reserved for low leverage/meaningless innings just like Wang. If anything that blazing start hurt us because Ron would use "his" guys in a winning situation no matter what. We were winning so much there was no time for those guys to get rest. If we had 6 save situations in 6 days K-Rod would pitch them all.

    Maybe if the Mets are the whole contract a deal like that might work, but making him less than $15mil a year average I want something nice. That would make the contract pretty nice. Though PR baggage and injured thumb need to be taken into consideration.

    I don't think anyone knows how bad the PR will be. I see fans(most notably Mets fans) that are jumping on this thought of having Braun on their team. On the other hand if a team trades for him and he struggles for whatever reason fans could bring out the torches. I think the PR fear comes from him not producing...if he produces I don't think anyone cares.

    Minimum slot value doesn't have any use in my opinion and your chart is horrible. It might not allow a team to draft a guy at the top of the draft to save money for later rounds and your values for other top 10 rounds would never fly with owners. Teams draft a lot of college seniors for $10,000 to save money for other picks. Once again I just don't see the need. I don't know if opt in or out is really a problem. Teams will likely scout them regardless. That's what they do. Teams know how likely it is to draft a certain guy...It isn't like it is some mystery. That last one makes no sense and would never happen. Spitter actually mentioned some real problems.

    I know you get a good kick out of that, but waiting to deal players for PR reasons isn't unheard of. There have been quite a few rumors/stories on how the Reds don't want to start a possible fire sale early because of hosting the All Star game. So while it sounds like a dumb idea to not deal a player for PR reasons it is a real thing. Now while I would agree it may not be the smartest idea, I am also not the negative backlash they are worried about.

    That is a pipe dream. He has his full no trade clause kick in after this year and I have a feeling Braun would be reluctant to waive it. Even if he would it would probably take a number of demands that would make any trade fall apart(like wanting 2021 picked up). If they don't trade him in July we are stuck with him for the long haul...which is quite likely.

    If Ed Sedar didn't send him there was not a very good chance he would make it. He is the human windmill.

    The odds of him being safe there are probably worse than Nelson finding a way to drive him in. A horrible throw and he would still have been out. It would have taken a throw to the screen to get him in. By letting Nelson bat you waste a couple pitches on the starter and clear the pitchers spot at the very least. Right decision every day of the week.

    Doesn't matter to me. Neither belongs within a half mile of third base. Hard to say never getting a good look at Rogers though. Obviously he is horrible, but how horrible?

    Top 5 prospect might be a little much. He is a corner outfielder with little power to date, strikes out a lot, has a VERY questionable .375 BABIP, and does not have a stellar track record. Yah he has put together some nice seasons, but nothing all that impressive to warrant a Top 5 placement. He has had a pretty high BABIP over his career, but is he really going to be that kind of guy in the MLB? Does he really have the make-up to sustain that? To me he looks like a solid, but nothing special prospect. A guy who could maybe be a solid starter if the stars align or more likely a fringe starter/4th OFer. That is why he continues to stay off the Top 10 rankings.

    Just did some quick research. Braun was a safe bet for about a -4.0 WAR staying at 3B. I'd say Braun is on average a 5 WAR player. How is a 1 WAR 3B worth more than a 5 WAR LFer? Even if you only keep him at 3B through his peak you are talking a 3 WAR player at best...that is somehow better than a 7 WAR LFer? It is quite obvious he was beyound bad. This isn't Prince Fielder type defense to ignore. This is like having a rock on defense.

    I think Prince Fielder in CF would be best....but the cost to reinforce the walls would be spendy.

    See you are just comparing the wrong things when it comes to Braun. It isn't Braun vs. another 3B. It is .950 OPS 3B Braun with 50 errors vs. .950 OPS Braun with average D in LF. Which is more valuable? I am picking the Braun in LF if you ask me.

    Well Zimmerman still did better than King Felix today. Felix was destroyed for 8 runs only getting one out.
