  1. Would have to think Reyes should be in line to get some starts at SS going forward, at least before the inevitable call up of Hernan Perez. Obviously hasn't played there much but maybe he won't completely embarrass himself.
  2. We have a 9 man bullpen and Lauer isn't pitching well, we really need to let him hit for himself?
  3. Strength and Conditioning Coach They have those in baseball right?
  4. That and there's no need for a 9 man pen, especially with how well our starters have been pitching this year
  5. The 2011 Brewers also got off to a 13-19 start
  6. This year, because they are going to win the 2021 World Series
  7. It's not so much just baseball in 2021. We do have a bottom 5 offense in all of baseball along with good defense and good pitching. You're just going to have a lot of games like this.
  8. Daniel Vogelbach would have never been a Brewer if Stearns didn't create such a horrid 1B situation last year. Bradley Jr. was brought in to get pretty much just as many ABs as any other outfield...except maybe Yelich. He isn't a true 4th OFer. You can say these guys weren't intended to be major contributors, fine, but really it is just another example of how bad Stearns has been at his job of finding reliable positional players because these bench bats keep finding their way into the starting line up on a daily basis even though they aren't playing very well themselves. I don't think firstbase was supposed to be a horrid situation, Huira was counted on as the second best bat in the lineup. Unfortunately that has been a complete disaster, worse than even the biggest pessimist could have predicted. Travis Shaw playing everyday at 3b and putting up a .720 ops isn't really a huge problem. In the outfield we've had massive injuries. If Yelich were in the lineup everyday you could live with a part time centerfielder next to him with a below average bat. Bottom line, if you would have told me before the year that we'd have a bottom 5 in all of baseball offense with Yelich injured and Huira demoted to AAA I would have believed you.
  9. One minor correction - Morrison was signed to a minor league deal, and hit his way onto the ballclub with a good spring. He was always nothing more than a "lightning in a bottle" type flyer. I agree on Smoak, Sogard, Gyorko and Holt, though. All four were signed for relatively inexpensive deals, but were expected to be big contributors, and outside of Gyorko (who the least was expected from) they were failures. And this last offseason he brought Vogelbach, Bradley Jr., and Shaw on to be big contributors and 2/3 have been disaster so far. Shaw has had big hits, but even he is barely keeping his OPS over .700. I expect some dumpster diving to some extent, but Stearns is having to do it at too many spots on the field and almost every one of those attempts is a total failure. Then the rare time he invests a bit more capital into someone he just gets so little (Garcia in 2020, Narvaez in 2020, Bradley Jr. , and Cain every year except 2018). Hopefully Garcia/Narvaez provide something this year, but jeez...he has got to be better at finding offense. Vogelbach barely made the team and was supposed to be a bench bat only, Bradley Jr was brought in to be the 4th outfielder, and Shaw was supposed to platoon in a four man 3B SS platoon with Urias, Arcia, and Robertson.
  10. Yup and it's lead to the most successful run of Brewer baseball I've seen in my lifetime, three postseason appearances, one NLCS appearance, one division title, and three winning seasons in the last four years. Pitching and defense wins games. You wanna guess how the Brewers faired the last time they lead the league in runs scored?
  11. Time to close this thread and open up the UWM 2021 - 22 Thread. We don't need to worry anymore about mid majors like Wisconsin-Madison or Marquette who can't recruit with the big boys in this state.
  12. I don't think division games even matter any more maybe for a tie breaker or something but that is about it. Surely there are Milwaukee Bucks Central Division Champs shirts floating around out there. I mean that's literally it in the NBA, you can print a t shirt or fly a banner for it but other than that there is no seeding advantage anymore and a division champion is not even guaranteed a playoff spot.
  13. McGinn has clearly been ahead of most when talking about the division between Rodgers and management. It's not like this hasn't been building for years.
  14. Let's not forget the 1982 Brewers were probably hitting the watering hole after most of their games. Possibly before the games as well. It's not worth comparing, that was a different era and the modern game is more physically demanding than it was back then. I do think the shortened 2020 season also has something to do with the abundance of injuries this year. Another thing people forget when they compare today's players to the past is how much longer the games are today. I was at the game Saturday, 4 and a half hours, and that's not a crazy long game by today's standards with the average over 3 hours. That's a long time for an athlete to have to keep their body ready to go for. When this was an hour and a half to two hour a day game things like the 162 game schedule made a lot more sense.
  15. Right now I would be absolutely thrilled if Huira's career production ends up anywhere near Rickie Weeks.
  16. That's a hell of a first post.
  17. Why would Ryan Braun want to tarnish his good name by associating with 12?
  18. Through the month of April, the Brewers have the following rankings in all of baseball: Opponent BA Avg 1st WHIP 7th Ks 4th ERA 6th Out of all qualifiers, they have the 7th and 8th ranking pitchers in all of baseball in ERA
  19. I thought he got the hand in there just before the tag. I thought I understood baseball pretty well before today. I feel like I don’t know how to baseball anymore. There is no consistency, indisputable evidence means whatever they want it to mean. You could flip a coin and have about the same results as what the replay booth gives you.
