  1. I definitely want to see them win a championship but I'm not going to look at it as a failed or bad season if they come up just short this year. Everyone has a right to be as miserable as they want to be.
  2. In 2017, no one expected the Brewers to compete for anything & they had the lowest payroll in baseball & just missed the playoffs by one game. But they didn't win the World Series, so who cares? Might as well have spent the whole summer watching the Tigers win 64 games with 3rd highest payroll in MLB. In 2018, the Brewers splurged. Yelich & Cain (& Wade Miley too!!). Payroll all the way up to 22nd. Fans were excited, but even then no one was predicting 5th most wins in MLB & Game 7 of the NLCS. But they didn't win tbe World Series, so what did they really accomplish? Probably would have been just as fun to spend half the year watching the Orioles win 47 games with the 10th highest payroll in MLB. In 2019, the payroll went up again (17th!!), but despite spending considerably more than in 2018, the team did not win as many games. Even so, they still made the posteseason (where they were 6 outs from knocking out the eventual WS Champs) after going on an historic September run without the reigning league MVP. They didn't win the WS though, so...BORING. Could have just watched the Mariners win 68 games with the 10th highest payroll if I wanted to watch a team NOT win the World Series. If winning the WS is the only successful outcome, 25 teams have nothing to show for the last five years. Out of those 25 teams, the Brewers have objectively been among the most interesting to follow on a day to day basis, which is all I can really ask for from an entertainment product. This is a great post. I think sometimes people get a player's mentality when it comes to fandom. As a player your goal is always a championship, win at all costs, 2nd is nothing, etc. and it has to be that way as a player, you can't really be satisfied because when you are, you get passed by someone else. As a fan though, you can kind of view things in a broader picture, for me I enjoy watching a competitive team all summer and I hope the Brewers can advance as far as possible. That does not mean anything short of a championship is failure, if you have that mentality, basically every year will be failure. What would be the point of devoting any time to following something like that?
  3. This reminds me of when Packers season is over, two days later all practice squad players are signed to futures contracts (a completely procedural move), yet the packers will officially announce it on facebook, twitter, etc. It just leads to fifty comments saying "Hur dur, why don't we sign real free agents?" or "Who is that guy?" or "Why don't we fire (head coach, GM, defensive coordinator, etc) instead?"
  4. Luckily we live in a time when these streaming sites have as good of quality as anything, it used to be brutal trying to stream games 10+ years ago. Amazing world we live in where I can't pay money to attend a game, but the games are still played in front of no one and broadcast to few.
  5. I mean as far as HFA goes, GB hasn't lost a home playoff game since the 2013 season, and honestly that game was against a much better team, if anything the cold weather is what kept it close. They have won three straight and four of their last five. Also none of that really actually matters given the amount of roster turnover in the last 20 years, there is almost no one on the team that has lost a home playoff game at lambeau.
  6. Fire everybody
  7. I realize it's not the NFL...and that their QB does not in fact play defense. Thank you for your insight there... I think the fact that it was a 34-3 game before ND scored a Garbage time TD just last week and in their win, the best player in CFB and arguably the best QB prospect since Manning didn't play in the other game...would lead most people to believe there was a substantial talent gap there. Seems pretty obvious they beat ND both times if Lawrence plays both games. That the true Freshmen that started is the likely starter next year...I fail to see how that's relevant? So basically you're argument is that Lawrence plays defense?
  8. That's the best games I've seen from GB in years. What a dominant defensive performance.
  9. I guess if you don't like championship level teams then sure. We follow the Brewers though so maybe there is some truth in that. Championship regular season, yes. Unfortunately in the NBA the regular season is the equivalent of spring training in baseball or pre-season in football. Counsell's Brewers will win a World Series before the Bucks ever win an NBA title again.
  10. Luckily he was a "big game pitcher"! Where would the Brewers have been without him in the '08 Divisional Series?
  11. Yes, if there's any lesson to be learned from the SEC (and the committee in general) it is to not schedule any game that you might lose, and to give yourself a bye week or an FCS team ahead of a tough opponent if possible. Scheduling FCS teams benefits everyone involved, except the fans who have to watch those games. But if COVID showed us anything it's that the whole machine doesn't really need fans in the stands. So who cares if nobody shows up to your FCS game. I mean I don't know about that, there's been a lot of money lost by no fan attendance, across all levels of sports. I think what we've learned is they can survive a year without it.
  12. I just noticed the title of the thread lol. Reminds me of what we had on the old brewers.com message board. Game thread and discussion for every brewer game obviously, game thread for packers games, badger games, etc. One thread for the Bucks, was going on like 15 years.
  13. Same old Bucks
  14. I also find it pretty funny to be afraid of blowouts when the SEC regularly schedules FCS opponents every year.
  15. I mean on the bright side, maybe missing most of the Bucks season will be a good thing.
  16. Ah the old hypothetical blowout argument about games that aren't allowed to happen, based on the old eye test. I get it, FBS has 130 teams, when #1 plays #50, it's going to be a blowout a lot of times. If it's #1 vs #8 of course #1 will win most of the time but it's not going to be an average margin of 30. For reference, last week #1 played #7 in a conference championship game and the margin was 6 points.
  17. By "sub-division" do you mean group of 5? The group of 5 teams are part of the FBS sub-division and the mythical playoff is supposedly representative of the whole sub-division. There's such a large gap in talent between Notre Dame and Clemson that the two teams went 1-1 against each other this season. They just got trounced and we all know they won a close game earlier in the season when they were without the consensus top pick and once in a decade type QB prospect. I don't disagree about the playoff, but if you really want it to be more competitive, the best chance would just be adding more SEC teams. ND opens as an almost 3 TD dog to Alabama and I expect Alabama to cover. As others have been saying, the only real way to fix the playoffs is to find a way to distribute the talent more evenly. The problem is, I can't imagine any way you can do that in CFB. Limit where kids can go to College? It just doesn't seem feasible. Yeah this isn't the NFL. A backup QB doesn't mean it's some scrub, it's next year's starter. How many more yards in that game would Lawrence have even thrown for? How many snaps in the second game did Lawrence play on defense?
  18. I mean I guess I'll have to switch back to cable if it's still like this for Brewer season. I can live with streaming a Bucks game now and again if I really want to watch one but I've got to have a Brewer game on TV.
  19. By "sub-division" do you mean group of 5? The group of 5 teams are part of the FBS sub-division and the mythical playoff is supposedly representative of the whole sub-division. There's such a large gap in talent between Notre Dame and Clemson that the two teams went 1-1 against each other this season.
  20. See what Peavey wrote right above you. Unless there are set, objective criteria, there is no guarantee that undefeated teams will be included. Well there should be. Give me 10 conference champions and then 6 at large bids.
  21. Big Ten rockfight alert!
  22. LOL, yeah except at #8/#9 you won't have undefeated teams left out of the invitational. It becomes really tough to sell the "playoff" as a championship when many teams in the sub-division can't qualify no matter what they do.
  23. Guess they should start paying D3 players then if they make it to the championship game.
  24. Like the Guerra experience a few years ago, or going back a long time, the Flying Moutons. Which Mouton was your favorite Mouton?
