  1. 347. this will be longer than the sheets watch thread by the time it is done.
  2. Well, he will be looking for a job then, since the Sidewinders are heading to Vegas I think. They are done in Tucson anyway.
  3. I bought a tablet for my PC and I use OneNote 2007 with it. At first I thought the program was garbage, but I became a big fan the more I used it. It is great for doing your homework in. You just print out a copy when you are done to turn in, and then you still have a digital copy when the teacher takes weeks to get your stuff back. The Screen clipping tool is pretty nice, because it lets you clip the exact portion you want. I subscribed to homework help sight, and I could always clip their drawings rather than do them myself. Also one teacher had us do online homework that you would get a pdf file for. You could just go clip the problem you were working on, and then do your work. I can look back at my homework really easy now, and see exactly what I was trying to accomplish with it. I have been really happy with my Watcom intuous 4x6, but you can get a cheaper one for well under $100. It is great having a digital copy of your homework without having to scan everything in. You save on a lot of paper and it is really easy to organize in OneNote. OneNote also can covert your writing into type if you want. I am not so sure if Open Office has a program that is as nice, maybe they have better though. I highly recommend a tablet though if you take classes that have problems like math, chemistry, and such. It might not be as helpful for writing classes, but it is great for the others. I had open office about 5 years ago on my PC desktop, and I am not sure why I went back to Microsoft Office. I don't remember if I didn't like it, or if there was issues. But that was a good 5 years ago too. Anyway, I veered off the original topic some, but I wanted to make the point about the tablet being a pretty nice tool for students. They are typically known for artistic uses, but coupled with a good program, it is helpful for students. You also can use it to write over powerpoint slides and Word documents. I wish more teachers would use them because it make it so easy to share the notes with students and lets them pay attention more than frantically try to copy notes from the board. <--- A thought for the teachers on this site.
  4. I made the mistake of getting a 17" laptop. Do not do this also. You will never want to take it with you anywhere. They sure don't seem to weigh that much, but coupled with a few books, it turns into quite a strain on your shoulders. I have an HP and I think it is just fine even with Vista. I had class with one guy who had a Mac, and it was a major pain in the rear to do group work with him. I guess some have mentioned Open Office, I guess you could try that. I thought about a Macbook Pro when I bought this one, but This seemed just as good at half the price. I have had it for 1.5 years now. I did just bump the memory from 2 to 4 Gigs. I also put in a new processor that I don't think I really needed, but won for cheap on ebay. But my advice would be be to decide exactly what features you want and get that. Don't go to Best Buy and end up with something else. My old processor was 1.5GHz, and I decided I wanted faster so I bought a 2.5 GHz. It is a major job to swap that out. I never even worked on a desktop before, so I was pretty proud of myself for actually doing the job right. I think mentioned in another thread is that if you have 32 bit Vista, the max RAM is 3-3.5GB. So you might not really need the 4GB that I installed. I looked at getting a smaller laptop at Christmas time, and you could get some pretty nice Windows laptops for cheap. My opinion is that if you buy with the right internal components, a PC will do more than enough at a much cheaper cost. I know heat issues were mentioned in one of these threads. You can buy a fan for the computer to sit on. It is powered by an USB port. They seem to work, and probably can extend the computer's life. I really haven't had virus issues either, but they can happen in what you think is legitimate websites. I found out the hard way at work once. I was looking up how to repair a machine and then I had dancing girls everywhere. The IT guy said the legit website was probably taken over by pirates. As soon as I clicked on it it started downloading, set off virus alarm, and had girls girls girls. I thought I was going to get fired. In general, just keep an eye on what you download, the other occurances are rare I think.
  5. I echo the statement that we have had the very best for a broadcast crew. It is one thing for sure that the team always gets right. So while I hate not having Jim call the games for the Brewers next year, I look forward to the new guy. Being in AZ and having a goofy work schedule, I also listen to more games than I watch. I was always happy that the radio on MLB.com doesn't cut out right after the last pitch like the TV does. It was just as great listening to Jim after the game as it was during the game. I remember in one of the On Deck Brewer events that many players attend, Jim Powell is the only one who my sister and I went to visit. I even took one of his baseball cards. Too bad I have moved a few times since then, and I have lost it. Jim, if you are reading this can you send another? We have been spoiled, and I hope it continues with the replacement. I hope the Braves fans will appreciate Jim as much as the Brewer fans do. Thanks for a great job, and Best of Luck Jim!
  6. Thanks for the replies. I was lucky enough that my family flew me in for that game, so I must have a voucher too. I didn't remember they were free with the ticket. My budget says free is good, but I will probably get something else. I might just go for gift certificates. She usually will go to a few games a year, and sometimes take some of the youngest grandsons with her. She would probably appreciate a little help affording that. I am sure her retirement funds took a hit and could use the help maintaining that ability of taking the younger kids to games. That way it is kind of a gift for a few people also.
  7. Hi All, I figured there must be a handful of people here that gift Brewers related presents during the holiday season. I am looking for something for my Grandma. I thought a 2008 highlight video might be neat, does that exist though? I could always go with apparel or some sort of memorabilia also. I wouldn't want any dominating decorations, because she decorates her house like a normal Grandma. Maybe some neat coffee cups or glasses? Basically, I am looking for some gifts that other have either gotten or given that they thought were pretty cool. I live in AZ now, so I don't have access to the clubhouse unless I can squeeze it in when I come home. I could always send someone there for me I guess.
  8. I live in Tucson, JJ's hometown, a guy I work with used to(still does?) play tennis with JJ's parents. I don't think he is close enough to be any help, but I can ask if I have time.
  9. I agree with you Stevo. I know part of it is because Sheets was always one of my favorites. Maybe it's rose colored glasses and wishful thinking, but I don't think a 3 year 15/per, would be all that bad. I guess I don't see the chances with C.C. all that great, and I hope they don't wait that out too much longer.
  10. I grew up with baseball as my favorite sport, and I would watch games on TV as well as listen on the radio. So I always had the fan in me. As I grew older my interest expanded, and I didn't follow as close. In 2003 I lost my cousin that I was close with. I sat in my apartment alone and depressed a lot. I started watching games more often, enjoying the comfort of something that was always there. I could never get people to go to games with me though. I dragged my sister to the first bucket head game in 2004. I found out my cousin went to the 2nd one. I said we should go to more, and we ended up going to 20-30 games a year until I moved to AZ. Each year that I have been here, my family has come to visit during spring training including my cousin who lost his brother. He gave up all his X-mas presents this year so he could come again this spring. I am definitely a hardcore fan. I love all the nuts and bolts of baseball, but it is the only sport that has the deeper comfort and joy. It is what got me past all the sadness of losing my cousin, and it was, and still is shared by that whole side of my family. I remember when a bunch of us went bowling once in the winter. I would always cross my arms and make an X for a strike, or make a slash for a spare. Another cousin asked, "What do you do for an open frame?" I responded, "I don't know." She then did the "O" for Overbay. I just remember being so happy, because I brought the family together in a different way.
  11. Check to make sure all the hoses are in good shape. If the hose from the air filter to the intake is broken, it might be hard to see by just glancing at it. I had that problem once, and I fixed it with electrical tape.
  12. I am in Tucson. I am hoping my buddy with the best TV, and also Brewers fan, will let me watch there like the Packer games. My lame 27 inch won't cut it for this.
  13. Wes Helms has helped get the Brewers there! I knew that contract would pay off!
  14. Great time for the MLB.TV to freeze on my computer!
  15. Great time for the MLB.TV to freeze on my computer!
  16. Well this made me smile! Would Ned and Dale win Co-managers of the year?
  17. For the first time in a long time, I have really lost interest in the Brewers. A friend sent me a text yesterday saying, "hey, they finally won again!" I wrote back saying I just lost a lot of interest on Monday and this season is just tainted now. He wrote back saying, he knows, but if they don't do it this year, it might be a while again. I shouldn't miss it. I keep reminding myself that, and I watched some yeaterday, listened some today, but the wind is out of my sales. I guess I don't feel the team deserves it anymore. Nothing against anyone or group personally, but it just seemed so shady. To me it wouldn't even feel right going to the post season after firing the manager 150 games in. Like Yost or not, it was his team. Living in AZ, and all the co-workers knowing what an avid baseball fan I am; I am getting sick of hearing, "What where they thinking? They are done now!" I respond by saying we only have to be ahead of the Mets or Phillies. It seems like all the top NL teams have taken turns doing tank jobs the last few weeks. We will see what happens. I am definitely very disenchanted now though.
  18. 10 dollars says that if Melvin and the team part ways this winter, Melvin will hire Yost to be manager of his new team.
  19. Yost was ripped on pretty hard for allowing Yo to pitch when he didn't know he had a torn tendon. Now we know he had a torn tendon, and we want him back on the mound? He'd have to pass a lot of test before I would even think about putting him on the mound in a game, that or a really desperate situation. Maybe an inning or 2 in a blow out just so he can have the mental boost of making it back, but I would not want him fielding the position at all. If Ben and CC are both gone next season, Yo is too critical to risk getting hurt by rushing him back.
  20. What? Lamb hasn't even played yet. Helms PT dropped big time once other options arrived. And is Counsell really worse than the other options now? Hall has been pretty good at defense this year, and Counsell is always steady. I haven't seen Gamel play at third base, but I don't feel like returning to poor quality defense, giving up extra outs. Who knows what kind of butterflies Gamel has going on that would affect his offense and defense. Hall and Counsell may not be the strength of the team, but we got to where we are with them (and Branyan for a bit). I don't feel like trying new things at this point of the season at our current position in the standings.
  21. I don't have any problem with the way Melvin put the pen together this year either. He had the money to try and take some shots. Gagne looked great in Texas last season, and was going to be another year removed from surgery. I guess I don't always judge someone by the end result. No one is perfect, and some choices are going to fail. I think given the situation, Melvin has done a pretty good job this year with his choices (gambles). I can see the thought process in the Gagne signing, but it just didn't pan out. I am pretty sure every GM has a move or two that doesn't work out each year. Melvin had money to spend and opportunities to go for some 1 year deals. I don't think Gagne signs a 1 year deal unless it is a bloated contract. The trade for Torres worked out great. Mota has been great at times. I think Torres is a bigger plus than Gagne is a minus. Mota a slight plus. Riske even mabe slight minus. I am happy with the trade that brought McClung. Overall, I put the pen at a net gain for Melvin I have a feeling this discussion takes place on at least 20 team's message boards each year, if not all 30.
  22. There a definitely several good choices this season. I don't know how you could not include Yost among them. My top 3 in no particular order: Yost, Pinella, and Jerry Manuel. You can't argue much against any of them with the season's their teams have had so far. The Cubs are fighting for the top record in baseball. The Mets have had a nice turn around, and the Brewers are going to likely have a big jump in the win total from last year. I think Doug Melvin said something along the lines that it is easier to go from 71 to 81 wins than it is to go from 81 to 91 wins. If the Brewers finsih the rest of the Schedule with a .500 record, that will be a 10 game jump for them. I am definitely rooting for Yost to win it, so that he can get the respect he deserves among Brewer fans. I won't be upset if another strong canidate wins it though. The Brewers will hopefully finish this season strong enough to make the playoffs. We will be treated to an amazing season whether or not anyone wins any awards. (CC for Cy Cy too!)
