  1. No coincidence that it has been since Orr got hurt. Very fair point. How much of the OSU D issue in 1st half was from losing its top corner (Okudah)??
  2. Don't think Tribe would do it. Hader cost also going up and its not like bullpen is a huge need for Cleveland. Keep the name James Karinchak (especially with his 2019 minor league stats https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/karinja01.shtml) in mind with the Tribe bullpen in 2020. Absent him (& Brad Hand) I think the Tribe would consider the trade more...
  3. A good showing (& continuing that good showing) in this game might keep WI ahead of Penn State in the rankings & keep the Rose Bowl possible..
  4. I noticed on MLBTR the Rays are landing a 3rd player (not yet named).. FRIDAY, 2:00am: It appears the Rays will also land another prospect in the deal, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com. I find it interesting the Padres are clearing out is depth behind Tatis Jr (1st Urias, now Edwards) & the Rays are adding SS depth to the system when they already have Willie Adames & #1 prospect in baseball Wander Franco...
  5. Good move for both Howie & the Nationals...
  6. OldH, I was not suggesting any lack of respect for OSU on this board. I realize that many give the respect, even if only begrudgingly. While many aspects had been raised and discussed, motivation for the OSU side had not been addressed. Perhaps fans feel winning the B1G championship & earning a playoff bid should be enough for player motivation. I'm sure for some players that would be enough. Maybe not for others. Teams and players measure/ track all sorts of things, both individual and unit. I know back in my high school days there was a board measuring our team defense. Top Measurement= Team Win. Then following lines went Shutout, Limited Opp to X yards rushing, Limited Opp to Y yards passing, forced 3 turnovers, recorded 4 sacks, defensive score. As for the 10 conference wins, that was what Joel Klatt was saying. Perhaps he had wrong info or his point is others have tried (I guess WI had the chance in 2017) but no one has achieved it yet. Maybe OSU achieves it. Maybe WI finds a way to reverse the tables like in 2017. We shall see how it plays out Saturday..
  7. However it was noted on the latest Baseball Tonight podcast (from Weds 12/4/19) that the Brewers have been losing money the past three seasons... It was mentioned at the 10:01 timemark during an interview with Bob Nightengale.. We might not like the source, but if the info is accurate it is an interesting perspective to view the Brewer personnel moves...
  8. Throughout this thread I have seen talk about why WI could win the game or have a better showing/ outcome then earlier in the year. Nowhere has the other side been addressed. Take a moment to consider the motivation for OSU on Saturday. Not only does OSU want to show that the previous meeting was not a fluke or a result due to weather conditions & location, they want to be the 1st college team to win a conference title winning all 10 conference contests. Until that was pointed out by Joel Klatt, I didn't realize that was a thing or even possible. Now that it has been put out there, I don't think the impact/ importance of that 'record' can be ignored. Being the 1st to do something/ anything is noteworthy & it provides motivation to players & coaches. OSU also wants to do well enough in order to remain #1 in the playoff ranking & therefore avoid a 1st round match with Clemson before a possible match-up with LSU in the championship round. While doing this they wish to remain healthy & available for the next game. Both WI & OSU have a habit of remaining close thru Q1 before starting to pull away from the opponent in Q2 & Q3. I don't know how the game on Saturday will go. Its why the game is played on the field and not in chatrooms/ bars. But just like WI can have a better result then earlier, the game Saturday could also get ugly and it could get away from WI fast. Much like it did in Dec 2014.
  9. At one point the Comp picks had been exempted from that count/ calculation. Unsure if that has changed. Either way, if a signing happens now, Brewers lose their 3rd round pick (& the equivalent bonus pool money). The Comp B has a rough value of $900k The Comp A traded last year (#41) had a value of $1.6M. The Texas selection ended up signing with a bonus of $1.81M
  10. Best of luck with that... Still has too much of that 'ola bulls**t' in the opinion of Lou Brown (may he RIP)
  11. IMHO picking up Narvaez is a so-so move. He addresses some needs but also has some weaknesses. Not complaining about that part of it. My concern is dealing away the Comp Pick (this time 'B') for a 2nd straight yr. Last yr the Comp A pick (& the attached bonus pool allotment) was dealt for Claudio. He lasted 1 season before being non-tendered last week. Now the Comp B pick (& the attached bonus pool allotment) has been dealt away. Like it or not, Milwaukee has one of the weakest farm systems in all of baseball. Dealing away opportunities to pick players in the top 75 of the draft & getting more money to sign the talents drafted does not help that. It weakens the foundation of the club further & hurts the opportunity for continued success. Having the extra pick in both years allows for Brewers to explore other draft scenarios (perhaps take a guy that is falling due to signing demands) knowing they have an extra pick & bonus $$ available to them. Many Brewer fans are ticked off by the Cardinals, but give them credit where it is due. They continue to remain relevant & competitive for the post season while they draft & develop talent that can then be used directly by the Major League club or used in trade to get items needed (either in the system or with the MLB club). Again, nothing against Narvaez. He has strengths & weaknesses like all players. I just think the cost to get him was too high for my liking.
  12. Approach Aaron Sanchez with caution... He has been constantly hurt over past few seasons and had IIRC shoulder surgery as his 2019 season ended early. I was surprised Houston non-tendered him but it could be 2 possible things: 1) ploy for getting Sanchez re-signed to a cheaper deal OR 2) the Astros have already seen enough (of either the medicals or the way Sanchez conducts himself in the clubhouse/ with training staff etc) to cut Sanchez loose ASAP to avoid having to pay any more to him.. We shall see where it ends up... As for Miley, I would be shocked if he returned to Houston. Being left of the post-season roster for multiple rounds had to bother him especially as the Nationals rallied to win the title.. Signing Lyles & Miley makes sense for the Crew but I suspect many fans want more & would be disappointed if that is all the rotation help (with Lauer) for the off-season...
  13. This could be a very good deal for both sides.. Angels now having Mickey Callaway as pitching coach might be a HUGE help moving forward..
  14. Wheeler exactly the guy needed by ChiSox & Twins. I'm thrilled neither got him.
  15. alex claudio and travis shaw each have an option remaining. While that is true, you have to remember that players reaching a certain amount of major league service time can decline being optioned to the minors or being sent out on a minor league rehab assignment. Unfortunately I cannot recall exactly what that number/ amount of service is. It could be 5 years of service. Again, not sure the amount number.
  16. He is exactly the type of pitcher someone thinking of contending (ie Twins, ChiSox, Brewers) should be targeting. I am not surprised by the years & money figure already being tossed around. I am happy that Wheeler wants this done sooner than later. That way he can remove the anxiety from his life before the holidays are in full swing
  17. When the playoff rankings get revealed later today, OSU will be watching them just as closely as WI. While WI is focused for positioning after the game & bowl attendance, a better ranking for WI means OSU has better counter to the SEC argument of LSU/ Georgia (at the moment #2 vs #4) & the idea that a LSU win should put the SEC team as the #1 seed in the playoff.
  18. But now the Brewers have the extra roster spot to use...
  19. Yep, the one that has my interest is 3B Christian Santana, http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=655996#/career/R/hitting/2019/ALL I like the upside. Wow. I thought Oscar Gonzalez (https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=gonzal003osc) has a rough time taking walks... BTW - Oscar is also R5 eligible. A rebuilding team like Detroit might have interest in Oscar but I doubt most teams would take the chance.
  20. I have to disagree regarding your assessment. I doubt Cain brings back much of anything. Both Woodruff & Huira would be bring back a lot of talent & much more than Cain would. That said - I am not arguing for a tear down & rebuild.
  21. It looks/sounds like someone is using one of these with player names on ping pong balls....
  22. Do you really think Howie Kendrick comes to MKE for 1 yr/ $5M when other teams (like Washington) could offer him the same or a little more??
  23. I think is a fair summary of the off season so far.....
  24. The poll to watch is the one on Tuesday night. I find it likely the Badgers are ahead of PSU at that point. After the upcoming game Saturday, who knows. Considering the teams PSU lost to (at MN, at OSU) & the rankings of those teams at the time against possibly 3 Badgers loses and who those would be against & where, I could see PSU ranked higher. I could also see the Badgers remaining ahead if Saturdays game is the closest the Buckeyes have all season.. We will see how it plays out..
