  1. I guess I just don't understand how this took so long to figure out. He's already missed basically an entire season now if he has TJ it'll be a whole second season. So much for his prospect status.
  2. Are uniforms like the black ones just a sign of the times? Like those ridiculous uniforms a lot college football teams wear? I'm not going to make fun of anyone who likes those because you can like whatever you want to like but man do I find those black unis ugly. Hopefully they don't wear them that often.
  3. I was thinking why not move Clint Coulter to first? Personally I thought he should have moved there to begin with. He's definitely got the size and he could move up at his own pace with nobody blocking him. If you do it now he likely gets two full years there before he hits Milwaukee. In the meantime you have Rogers who has really been hitting well in AAA this season.
  4. I doubt the Nationals would trade giolito alone for those two.
  5. And that's what happens when you settle for major league ready talent. Lagares is Gomez minus the power, OBP, and base stealing ability. Why would we want him?
  6. Why not an a piece to get a better pitcher. Gomez & segura for Matz and conforto?
  7. Please no offensively challenged players like Flores or legares. Recent tweets suggest Milwaukee is asking for one of the Mets top four starters. DeGrom Harvey Syndergaard or matz
  8. if we only see parra moved or worse yet nobody moved then I am done with this franchise. I refuse to be a fan of a club that employs the "lets just throw out a team that can hover around .500 so people still come to games" strategy. It's an insult to true baseball fans. Why should I pay $36 for two crap tickets, plus $12 to park my car half a mile away and $8 for a beer to watch some mediocre team playing in a taxpayer funded stadium hover around .500? Forget it. I have other stuff I can waste my money on. The saddest thing about this all is that the strategy for long term success is fairly simple. I'm not saying doing the actual winning is easy but figuring out what to do is. In fact we saw it happen not too long ago. You take a really bad team and draft high ceiling players. You grab as many of those guys as you can get and hold onto them. Then when they all hit the majors you supplement them with complimentary pieces and maybe a few expensive free agents. Hopefully this leads to success. Eventually you either win or you fire your GM and bring in someone who can better evaluate talent. And, win or lose, when your young guys start to get old and/expensive you move them for more young pieces. We saw in the late 2000s and early 10s what happens when it all comes together. You take young home grown guys, guys we got by being really bad for a few years, guys like Fielder Braun weeks hardy hart and lucroy and supplement them with others to make a good team. Unfortunately we were limited by our lack of ability to find young pitching. But the mistake the Brewers made then, and have been making ever since, is their refusal to move the old, expensive talent for younger guys. I understand holding onto fielder but they waited too long to move hart. They waited too long to move weeks. They waited too long to move Axford. More recently they've waited too long to move Gomez. They've waited too long to move Lohse. And they are in the process of waiting too long to move lucroy and Parra. All these guys could have brought back high impact talent and the extent of what we've gotten for them so far has been a long reliever. But at least we're winning right? Nope. They are 25 games under .500 since their last playoff team. Two winning seasons in there but only a combined six games over .500 for those two years. So we are what we are. A team that might hover around .500 and be no real threat to make the playoffs. And apparently we have an owner that is ok with that and will be ok with that until attendance suffers. So if what I think will happen at the deadline does happen then I'll do my part. Granted the 10-14 tickets I'm good for each year is really meaningless but I refuse to contribute one more dollar to this sorry franchise. If I'm wrong and something big happens then I'll be very pleasantly surprised and will change my tune. Unfortunately the reports we've been reading don't seem to point in that direction.
  9. It's not that people are impatient. It's them reading reports from what I assume to be people in the know. It's also them looking at Melvin and Attanassio's recent history of quiet trade deadlines despite being out of contention. I am so sick of people just assuming Melvin is going to get this right and posters giving us a hard time when we suggest he might not. And I'm frustrated with this franchise missing opportunity after opportunity after opportunity to trade away players when their value is at or near its peak. How do you expect to make a consistent winner when you stick to the same strategy that is obviously not working? The sad thing is that while they seem to have finally gotten it when it comes to drafting they still don't seem to get it at the major league level. And until they show otherwise forgive me for continuing to be skeptical.
  10. Yes 4/6 of our rotation is home grown. And it's actually a decent bunch. But my point was that in his entire career he has been completely unable to develop an ace or obtain a young one. And other than Gallardo i don't see a #2 in there either. There's still hope for Nelson and peralta but as of now they aren't there. The guys he's obtained in trades in hopes of being that type of pitcher have been huge disappointments (cappellan Jackson de la rosa hellweg Pena etc). I just think Melvin gets way too much credit for his trades. He's had some good ones but he's had some bad ones too. And in over a decade he hasn't obtained one legitimate #1 or #2 other than already established pitchers. He's consistently missed opportunities to trade players at their peaks and consistently signed FAs who are on the decline. He needs to go.
  11. Can anyone name one good pitching prospect Melvin traded for?
  12. Do people just assume we can get more for Gomez in the offseason because that's what Melvin says? Gomez should have bee traded last offseason. Now here we are hanging onto him again hoping some team blows us away with an unrealistic offer. Just like he is going to expect an unreasonable offer in the offseason that won't come. Melvins refusal to trade players who aren't impending free agents has killed this franchise. I'm telling you. This game has passed him by. He's been here over a decade and has yet to develop ONE ace. Not one. And maybe one or two pitchers who could be considered a #2. He can't draft them and he refuses to trade the guys who could fetch one. Our pitching has been atrocious his entire tenure, save the two years he traded for CY Young caliber pitchers. And every year the Brewers are out of it people like me get all excited that maybe this is finally the year we obtain those young high ceiling prospects only to see players like nick delmonico as our trade deadline haul. I'm sorry for the rant but I have zero faith in Melvin doing anything significant this deadline. And I'll tell you what he is darn lucky parra is playing as well as he is because parra MIGHT get him a player worth talking about.
  13. I don't know. They'd be moving back to an arena they moved out of almost thirty years ago. The BC is amongst the best arenas in the AHL and they'd be moving into, I'd have to imagine, one of the worst, especially for a city the size of Milwaukee. They would have seen a big boost in attendance in year one of the new arena. I'd be surprised if they survive this. but you never know I guess.
  14. I agree great day for Milwaukee. I'll be very upset if the new arena doesn't have ice though. Not that I am holding out hope for an NHL team but it would be a major step back for the Admirals to have play at the UWM Panther arena. I'm not sure they can survive that. Plus no more Frozen Fours and no big ten hockey tournament. Either way though this was a must do for Milwaukee. Hopefully that promise of related development comes through. A huge hotel is a must and some high end apartments would really help the area. I know it's not in the cards but I've always to see a Wisconsin sports museum down there.
  15. The city better not screw this up. They are getting the best deal of all. A brand new half a billion dollar arena and it costs them a parking structure and a TIF, something they routinely hand out to larger projects and really doesn't cost anything. They should be more concerned with finding a way to reroute their planned street car to the area. Building a new street car system and not connecting it to this would be a mistake.....although it would not be at all surprising.
  16. I think that's just it. Melvin setting his price too high. Last year was a dud at the deadline too. I don't think that is a coincidence. Just the reports that he was looking for "multiple" pieces for Fiers, a 30 year old mid to low end starter, simply because he's controllable tell me he overvalues team control. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying trade something just because. But be realistic with what you expect to get back.
  17. The Brewers won't move Gomez. Why would they? A couple of fair weather fans might get upset and not buy a Brewers shirt from Kohls department store. We need as many wins as possible to fool people into thinking we are a decent team. It's the Brewers way.
  18. I think two guys the Brewers should consider moving are Fiers and Blazek. Toronto is apparently interested in Fiers but Melvin is asking for multiple pieces in return. I would think it would be smarter to ask for one higher rated player than multiple lower rates players. Fiers is under team control for awhile yet but he's already 30. It would seem that he's a perfect "sell high" piece right now. Same goes for Blazek. He's got great numbers but he hasn't pitched in many high stress situations. I think you could get a team to overpay for him.
  19. Doug? Mark? Is that you guys? In all seriousness we could probably be ok for one more year if we keep Gomez and Lind and the rotation. But is that really what you want? One more "if everything goes as planned we might make the playoffs" season? Forget it. Gomez is gone after next year and we better get more than a comp round pick for him. Jungmann is pitching way over his head and could easily slip back to being that 4-4.5 era guy we saw his entire minor league career. We need to get younger and get impact players. Moving Gomez is probably the only way we're gonna even sniff a prospect with #1 potential, especially now that we're in one of our patented "too late to make a difference but plenty of time to ruin our draft position" hot streaks right now. As far as I'm concerned they've already waited too long to trade Gomez and need to do so asap. Parra needs to go. Segura needs to go. Hell Id trade blazek too because I think he's pitching way over his head. Get young guys to compliment your young guys and build a team that can compete on an annual basis. I'm so friggin sick of this below average product they keep throwing out there thinking they need 75 wins to keep attendance up.
  20. This prospect list looks ALOT better than lists from two and three years ago. Much improvement. Hopefully we can add at least two or three more top ten prospects at the trade deadline.
  21. Yes I thought he'd max as a #5. I'll admit it. His numbers throughout his entire minor league career were very pedestrian. His velocity sat in the low 90s. He walked too many hitters. Wasn't striking out very many. I'm not claiming anyone is doing this but I'm not going to come on here saying "oh I told you so". Quite honestly I don't think anyone considered him much more than a back end of the rotation pitcher.
  22. I agree that we need to temper expectations on Jungmann. A month and a half ago we were considering him an inning eating #5. I love what he's done but he needs to do it over the course of a year or more to truly be considered a 1 or 2. That being said. If he keeps up this pace...maybe finishes the year with an ERA under 2.50 and 10+ wins any chance he wins ROY? I don't pay much attention to that race so I don't know who is all in consideration but he'd have to be a candidate with those numbers.
  23. Id do Arcia for Syndergaard in a heartbeat. You make that deal then move Gomez, parra, segura and Lind for prospects, hopefully get a top five pick in a pitching strong draft and all of a sudden two or three years from now you've got a solid core of young players plus an ace or maybe even two. Sardinas could probably provide as much offense now as segura does. CF can either be filled with a trade or Taylor or maybe even Wren or reed. Rogers can hold down first for now then maybe coulter or Braun could play there. There are options on offense but the one thing we don't have is an ace. We need an ace.
  24. The more I think about the more I'd be willing to trade Arcia but only for a young pitcher with #1 potential. I remember noting awhile back that in the past 11 or 12 years the Brewers have only had a team ERA in the top half of the league and not made the playoffs one time. The other two times that happened they made the playoffs. I don't remember if that was exactly it but it was something like that. The takeaway was that they need decent pitching to win. We still lack a pitcher with 1 or 2 potential in our system so I say if you can get one for Arcia you do it. Hopefully you supplement it with another one as a top 5 pick in next years draft. Then all of a sudden you got something going. Yes it would hurt to lose Arcia a true young controllable ace might be more valuable.
