  1. Well a few observations... I went in really telling myself to watch Gillespie and Weeks. Jemile seems like a little different type of player than Rickie. He's smaller than Rickie, but he seems to make more contact. He is a great baserunner and has blinding speed. He also seemed pretty solid defensively at second. If a few games can tell anything, it seems he will be more of a prototypical leadoff hitter. Of course, his power could develop over the next few years. I think he'll win the Golden Spikes just like Rickie though. He was an All-American already as a freshman. Daniel Bard of UNC has a very live arm, but he wasn't consistenlty hitting his locations in his start against Fullerton. He struggled a bit, but then sort of settled down and ate innings. It was fairly impressive overall. I only saw Andrew Miller pitch to one hitter, but I'm glad I got to see him at all. In his few pitches, his stuff looked electric. Jonah Nickerson of OSU was outstanding Thursday night, and it was off two days rest. I found it interesting that the more heralded Dallas Buck told his coach he wasn't ready to pitch, and he had one more day of rest than Nickerson. Kevin Gunderson, OSU's closer, seems unhittable at the college level. The same goes for Rice's reliever Cox (the first name escapes me...)
  2. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g312/saltstadt/DSCF0375.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g312/saltstadt/DSCF0406.jpg Here's a few photos I took... Sub-par quality but I thought some might be interested. The bottom pic is Jemile Weeks. I'm sorry about the hugeness... I read the faq on how to re-size but I'm pretty computer illiterate, and I obviously was missing something. (resized pics -TC)
  3. Well I've been in Omaha for the last three days, and I've seen three Oregon St. games. It's funny that you saw him as a pull-hitter Patrick, because almost all of his solidly-hit balls have been to the opposite field. He's had two doubles and a triple to right field, and he's been robbed twice in the right-center gap. He had one hit to the wall in left that was caught, and that's really the only pulled ball I can recall. He has good speed and seems to be a good defender. He had an absolutely outstanding diving catch the other day. He seems to be a solid line drive hitter with a little pop. I believe he's hitting around .415 in the post-season, and his season average is .388. I've been very impressed with what I've seen.
  4. ESPN Gamecast sucks. Prince Fielder is still batting.
  5. I found it interesting that Melvin said they felt none of the college pitchers available when the Brewers picked were worthy of a first round pick. That includes Daniel Bard, who many liked.
  6. Any ideas on why Hughes has lasted this long? Patrick, he was one of your favorites right?
  7. Awesome! Butler to the Mariners!
  8. Imagine how many jersies Brent Brewer could sell...
  9. Nothing like giving up on Jeffress before he even signs. Looks like Hughes might be available for the next pick.
  10. Well obviously other teams don't like Bard too much. He still hasn't been picked.
  11. So does Jared Hughes fall to the second round?
  12. Wow, Miller in a freefall. I'm starting to think the Brewers will take Kiker.
  13. So what does that change? I've read that the Rockies are prepared to take Miller with the second pick if he fell.
  14. I still think Eveland should continue to start. Unlike Hendrickson, he's shown flashes. He looked good in the Cinci game for a while. He was able to get out of trouble a couple times today. The end results haven't been there. I agree, I really think he can turn in a complete effort against the Nats. Along with Jorge's start on Tuesday, I'll be looking forward to seeing what Eveland can do.
  15. Well, what would you suggest the Brewers do? They have three starters out indefinitely. There's nobody good left to pitch. There aren't many (if any) teams that go eight or nine deep in decent starting pitchers.
  16. He hit Abreu on an 0-2 count. He hit two guys in an inning. And he gave up a two RBI double to a pitcher. I know he can improve, but he really hasn't shown any improvement since he's been up. It's possible that he just isn't ready. He's had hardly any AAA time.
  17. I don't see how anyone can be encouraged by Eveland's start today. He was totally erratic. In other news, Winklesas has sounded very good. I wonder if they're on to something with him.
  18. This won't mean a thing as to his major league possibilies, but I played against Goetz in high school (and even earlier) and he is a great baseball player. He has good speed and is a good defensive outfielder. He's just about the best player I've ever played with/against, so obviously I'll be rooting for him.
  19. Classic! I completely agree. I really appreciate everything you do here. I probably wouldn't know when the MLB draft was, much less a thing about it if I hadn't stumbled across this site.
  20. I guess I don't understand why so many people seem to be casting Rogers aside. I thought the most important thing for a young pitcher was strikeout rates... and Rogers' rates are great. Didn't they revamp his mechanics after they drafted him? I'm willing to give him a lot more time. I still see him as a top prospect.
  21. At the game today, the guy in the row in front of me wouldn't stop complaining. He stormed out in the fifth inning, saying, "This game is boring! Let's go!" That made the comeback a little sweeter.
  22. I was at the game tonight... a few observations: Fielder swung so hard on his first home run that I couldn't even see it off the bat... I honestly thought he swung and missed. Jenkins had a huge double in a great at-bat. Too bad he did it at such a pointless time, because he never hits in the clutch. Fielder's second home run was out in about three seconds. Kolb actually looked pretty good. He had good velocity. The hits were pretty much ground balls that were hit in the right spots. A lot of drunk people sit in the terrace reserved sections.
  23. Can we please pound the crap out of this guy?
  24. As far as shutouts go, this was not to discouraging. They were getting good swings. Capuano pitched ok, just one bad inning. The worst thing is they have to face Peavy tomorrow in the rubber match.
  25. Just got on... where's Russ? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Jeff Cirillo and first base is like a fine wine- when brought out on rare occasions, it's exquisite.
