  1. Nobody is untouchable, but as I disliked the Ray pick, I hope they can use him in a package for something impactful.
  2. There are a lot of players who will be available. I'd be willing to pay big (so Brinson and a lot more) for Archer, Stroman, or Fulmer. If the Brewers don't want to gut the system, there are still plenty of options. I also won't be upset if they don't acquire a starting pitcher. The trade today for Webb is already a move to help the big league team. I am plenty good with lower key deals like that. Basically, I don't think there's really a wrong play for the Brewers, short of giving up big prospects for a rental player, which I don't believe Stearns would ever do. Nice position in which to be.
  3. Pretty darn close to it if not overpaid. And very likely to be as he ages.
  4. Yep, they actually had a countdown on FSWI to 81 wins after each win in September. Daron Sutton was insufferable with it. Pretty embarrassing.
  5. His position on the depth chart: 2B: 2/3 SS: 4? 1B: Please no LF: 3/4 RF: Please no He should have been non-tendered.
  6. Really this all goes to show how foolish it is to give a long-term extension into a player's mid-to-late thirties. There was absolutely no reason to give Braun that second extension in 2011. The one in 2008 took him through his age 31 season and was great value. The Brewers could have traded him this year for a nice piece, and they wouldn't have to worry about a declining Braun blocking one of their talented outfield prospects. Now they're stuck with him in 2019 and 2020 when he's likely in decline, killing them defensively, and keeping a Brinson, Ray, Clark, or Phillips out of the lineup.
  7. Point is, he's still a big upgrade for SF and LAD. Really hoping one of them decides to acquire him.
  8. Hard to trade Nelson now when he was so brutal last season. Might as well hope he can rebound a bit and try again.
  9. Completely fine with that proposed deal. Decent chance Puig has a strong year and could really bring back a haul when the Brewers flip him. Most importantly, it clears the outfield in a few years when they'll have to decide between Broxton/Santana/Brinson/Phillips/Ray/Clark, not to mention Cordell/Orimoloye/Taylor/Harrison.
  10. Also baffled at the negativity over this. His 14.2 SwStrk% was elite--he misses a lot of bats. We're upset that Knebel/Barnes won't close until July? Thornburg closed for two months and brought back a pretty nice return. That doesn't matter. Knebel/Barnes etc. will be pitching in higher leverage than they ever have in 2017. Feliz will be flipped, hopefully for a decent prospect. This is basically a no risk move.
  11. So let TT retire at age 65 to hire a John Dorsey, who will be 58 at that time, and then also surely lose the younger guys. Great call. McGinn has really lost his touch. Combine this with his numerous trolling articles the last few years, and I remember why I don't read him anymore.
  12. Holland would feel much more like a Doug Melvin signing than a Stearns signing. I would definitely be surprised if Stearns gave him a player option.
  13. They already have too many outfielders, and they're all young with actual promise (other than Braun, who's just good already).
  14. Honestly just want Braun gone. His age and injury risk scares me, and with Santana, Broxton, Brinson, Phillips, Clark, Ray all here or hopefully arriving within a few seasons, there will be enough of a logjam without being forced to play Braun as he declines. He was great, and he still is good, but the odds of him being a real burden are too great. I don't even think the Brewers should hold out for a "good return." I'd be totally fine with an okay return.
  15. Feel like there's no way Bellinger was in the deal if they "couldn't agree on two prospects." The Brewers probably wanted him in it, and LA wouldn't do it.
  16. I would be pretty surprised if the Dodgers accepted that deal.
  17. It's ten years of MLB service time. He was called up some time in May, so it would kick in then.
  18. So you admit Eaton's contract, age, and defense are all superior to Braun, and then say you'd rather have Braun. And that's even assuming that Braun's offense won't fall off some in his age 33, 34, 35 seasons, which is probably likely.
  19. Given the age and contract, Eaton is far more valuable than either Braun or McCutchen in a trade.
  20. Except they kind of can't, because in a few months he'll have full 10/5 rights and will be able to veto any trade. It's not the best situation for the Brewers to be in. I'm of the viewpoint that they need to trade him this off-season (and will likely not get as much as we're hoping) because they don't want to be paying a likely oft-injured, declining Braun 20 mil in his ages 36 and 37 seasons.
  21. I understand the idea of not wanting to trade a starter for a reliever, and I probably wouldn't trade Nelson for Jeffress either, but Jeffress was more valuable last season than Nelson, even by WAR. Nelson was downright bad. I would personally love to not have to watch Nelson pitch anymore, as he reminds me of latter-day Yovani Gallardo, but that's just me.
  22. Braun can't block a trade to Washington? Since when?
  23. Definitely worth looking around. Gennett is the obvious one to move, but he would bring back very little. With Villar's amount of team control left, have to think his value is quite high.
