  1. Not sure I realized the walk issues that Lopez has had his entire career. 4.5 BB/9 career......no wonder we wanted to convert him to the pen.
  2. Down 3 in the 6th inning, not sure who I'd rather they send out there to eat innings than Drake (maybe Lopez I guess but Drake does that thing where he does decently enough for small stretches to make Counsell think he can handle closer games, then he just totally implodes in games like this and Counsell never remembers that the next time). I think most of the Drake hatred stems from how poorly Counsell uses him.
  3. I guess you could argue too little too late from the offense tonight, but it's still good to see them battling, and I always feel like late life like this in lost games bodes well for the next game.
  4. Pretty sure the year he was drafted, the Astros set the MLB record for strikeouts.... If the comment was about Jett, he was drafted by LAA wasn’t he? Isn’t he who we traded for with Maldonado? Comment was about Nottingham starting with an organization that values not making an out.
  5. Pretty sure the year he was drafted, the Astros set the MLB record for strikeouts....
  6. Drake has outings where that splitter looks electric. Then he has outings like tonight where he serves up batting practice. I know everyone hear hates him. I don't really like him that much, but right now I'm not sure who I'd rather have in his spot in the bullpen (other than Boone Logan or Corey Knebel, or maybe Adrian Houser but I'd rather they stretched him out). Not a lot of great options to replace him unless a waiver claim falls in our laps. We're pretty much stuck with the bullpen we've got right now.
  7. Well at least we'll get to see Jorge Lopez pitch tonight.
  8. Definitely not going to do any Drake complaining. Regardless of how I feel about him, these are exactly the games he should be pitching in.
  9. You have Sogard, Braun, and Nottingham on the bench, not sure I'd want to waste Braun here if we're in a big spot later in the game, and I think Sogard is a better choice than Nottingham's first career PA. Not ideal but not sure we have a better option.
  10. Should be interesting to see what Counsell does this Saturday. Suter really recovered today and isn't going to get a chance to prove he could go deeper but he was pretty efficient in innings 3-5.
  11. Arcia's swing on strike 3 there was unbelievably awful. He looks so lost at the plate.
  12. Pencil Woodruff in for Saturday against the Marlins...
  13. Wouldn't have guessed that Nottingham would be the first Brewer this year to make his Major League debut, but glad for him. He and Phillips both looked like busted prospects in AA only a little over a year ago, and now they've both made the show. There's plenty of room for Nottingham to stick if he can be even halfway decent offensively/defensively. I hope Counsell gives him a start against the Reds. Bandy could use a game off today.
  14. Interesting choice, I would've guessed they'd go with Keon Broxton, but Nottingham has played 1B this year in addition to C, so he could be a fill in for Thames as well as Pina. No word yet on a corresponding move to clear a 25-man spot.
  15. Guessing Lopez or Williams going down tomorrow and Broxton coming up. They need a bench bat and an outfielder for at least a few games. Or maybe Thames to the DL.
  16. This is the Chacin we wanted when we signed him. Slider has looked sharp today. Can't do much about infield hits and stupid errors.
  17. Gilbert Lara, who coming into 2018 had 35 career walks in 190 Minor League games, has 4 walks in his first 5 games. Way too early to tell but maybe a sign that he's making some adjustments?
  18. Smart move to just have Hader face the lefty and get him outta there. Can't blame this one on Counsell's bullpen usage...
  19. My thoughts exactly. It was a nice shuffle to 2nd by the SS but it wasn't even close at 1st.
  20. I agree. Is Jeffress available today? He pitched the last two games if I remember correctly and can't remember but might've gone more than an inning in at least one of those games.
  21. You're right, as far as I can tell he's actually been pretty shockingly consistent. He'll give you an inch off the plate either way but the bottom of the zone has been a ball all day (Jennings got one call there in the 7th but that was on a breaking pitch). Santana's numbers starting to look pretty nice..... I do agree Joey that if Hader's offspeed stuff is finally working for him and that change-up is something he's confident using now against righties, I think he might be wasted in the bullpen even if he's pitching in 80 games a year. Chris Sale had a couple years in the pen before they finally bumped him up. I doubt there will be a need for him this year with Nelson/Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff all ready to step in, but maybe they stretch him next spring? If he keeps pitching like this all year, I don't see how you could keep him in the bullpen.
  22. Guys.....I think I'm going to sound like a broken record by the end of the year, but Josh Hader is our best pitcher and it's not even close. His fastball was pretty damn hard to hit last year, but with his offspeed stuff getting better and more often used this year, his fastball has become essentially unhittable.
