  1. The transition continues...I wonder if some of the pro crosscheckers do not have interest in becoming pro/amateur scouts.
  2. Prior to this year, Spangenberg had played 11 innings at shortstop in pro ball (minors and majors combined). Starting shortstop for the Brewers tonight.

  5. He is the right manager for the Brewers and a very good manager (top 5 or 10). If the Brewers let him go, there would likely be teams in the league that would get rid of their current manager for the chance to have him.
  6. Nightengale report could be a transition to an Astros-style of scouting staff. I believe they basically have two departments - a domestic one and an international one.
  7. Ashby and Hintzen have also started fairly well as college arms. Hopefully high school draftee Jarvis can continue to progress.
  8. Soria declined a $10 million option and signed a 2 year / $15 million deal. Moustakas declined a $15 million option and signed a deal for $7 million with a $3 million buyout on the option year. Just saying the baseball free agent landscape is changing a great deal. Who would have ever thought Keuchel and Kimbrel last as long before getting deals done.
  9. As the 2019 draft would give you hope based on this study, the Brewers 2018 draft would seem to be rather risky with four of the top five picks being high school selections. Hopefully those picks can overcome the "odds".
  10. This may be overly optimistic, but it wouldn't surprise me if Grandal and Moustakas don't get better options out there compared to their Brewers 2020 options. Grandal's option makes him the third highest paid catcher in MLB and he has not had as strong of season in 2019 and Moustakas' option would put him in the top 10 at third base after two disappointing trips to the free agent market.
  11. It is amazing to see how many teams have changed hitting coaches in the last two years. One year of sample size for Haines and Hook is too little in my opinion and I am not one that is against change. I can't remember how many years I hoped the Packers would get rid of Capers.
  12. I don't think three changes constitute a big change in philosophy. I wonder how many GMs and owners are keeping their eyes on the Astros as they have completely changed their way of scouting running a scouting staff about half the size of the Brewers and emphasizing video and statistics more.
  13. The MLB changes creating international signing bonus pools is very beneficial for the smaller market teams, including the Brewers. Prior to their implementation, "big name" teams could just outspend everyone.
  14. Maybe the Brewers could get a couple of "lottery tickets" for Arcia in the offseason?
  15. Interesting in a year the Brewers drafted three of their top eight picks out of Sankey's region, he is let go. With 60+ scouts in the organization, I would expect some changes would likely be made each year.
  16. DJ was definitely a great pitching coach, but lets look at some of pitchers who have shown some improvement. Everyone wants to point out how Burnes, Jeffress, and Chacin have struggled, but some of the pitchers including Anderson, Woodruff, Davies, Albers, and co. have actually shown some decent improvement from 2018. IMO Hook may not be DJ, but he is doing a pretty darn good job with what he has.
  17. Should Arcia be given another shot or should the Brewers move on? Is he much different than Alcides who was traded at an even younger age? Would it make sense for the Brewers to sign someone like Iglesius (Reds) next year to hopefully bridge the gap until Turang hopefully takes over?
  18. The biggest negative with a Cain trade is the message it could send to others looking to sign in Milwaukee as a free agent. His salary isn't as out of line as people may think. Being a top six paid centerfielder is probably not that out of line for a player who has averaged 4+ WAR/year over the last seven years.
  19. Will the Brewers add Bickford to their 40-man this offseason? Seems like the type of power arm a team could take a chance on in a Rule 5 draft.
  20. Any chance the Brewers could get either Gonzalez and/or Lyles signed to an extension prior to free agency? In 14 appearances over two years for the Brewers Lyles has an ERA under 2.50
  21. Looks like a strong college draft in the first round, especially pitchers.
  22. ...and another spot on the 40 will need to be cleared if Grisham is indeed coming to the majors. I would have to think Wilkerson unless they shutdown a pitcher for the year or bump one of the outfielders (Taylor or Stokes). Maybe they are just waiting to announce until Wilkerson gets his start done tonight?
