The Brewers offense was completely inept last season and the solution was keeping the worst hitting coach in baseball and signing two defensive first players in Wong and Bradley Jr.

If this is the Yelich we are going to see again this season we will end up finishing closer to the Pirates than making the playoffs.

This organization badly needs some prospects that can hit and hit with power especially at third base or they will continue to struggle offensively. No, this organization just needs to continue drafting the best player available regardless what position that player plays. If they are a SS in college or high school that doesn't mean they are a SS no matter what Clancy says all kidding aside just because someone is drafted at a certain position that doesn't mean that is their only position they can play. The Brewers wanted to draft Tulo and play him at 3B they also wanted to do this with Hardy but both refused. Short stops can sometimes out grow their position and will instead become 2B or 3B or OF's. Even Yount went from SS to CF and there are many more that have moved from their original position to another. It is better to just draft the best player available regardless of what position they play as you could have your future 1B or future 3B when you draft a high school or even college SS. The player has to have the bat to possibly move off of shortstop to third base. Turang for instance while being a fine draft pick will never have the bat to play third. -
This team desperately needs Hiura to be the star hitter that he is capable of being.

You really think third base is the only huge question mark. I think the entire lineup is one gigantic question with few answers other than Yelich. The pitching and defense should be solid but this lineup looks like one huge snooze fest begging for some real answers.

If Urias still has options I don’t think he will make the roster. Like him or not Arcia is likely to be the Brewers starting shortstop this season. -
The game today looks a lot like many we saw last season with the team not able to get a hit through the first 5 innings. These games obviously mean nothing but the offense looks lost again.

Are there any third base prospects available for trade. Stearns needs to parlay some of this pitching depth into a legitimate third baseman if Urias and Shaw flop as is the most likely scenario. -

Is there any team that plans on contending with a weaker left side of the infield. Urias looks like a minor leaguer to me, Arcia only plays well in big games and Shaw is unlikely to be the player he was the first few seasons he played for the Brewers. -
Kyle Seager on a salary dump from Seattle is another gamble I would have been willing to take instead of signing another defensive outfielder who swings a whiffle ball bat most seasons.

Who do you recommend? I would have taken a flyer on Cespedes who will be a lot cheaper than Bradley.

So you've said! Fortunately, 4-2 wins count the same as 8-6 wins. Yes, but the getting to 4 is the issue. Could be a lot of 2-1, 1-0 losses this year, which will then have the same people applauding their pitching-defense approach, to be saying "why didn't DS go get a bat or two this offseason". You know what wins games?? Scoring runs...you MUST score more then your opponent. Can the Brewers do that consistently?? The problem is...the Brewers as a franchise always plays the "well if" game with their roster. Last year it was signing a bunch of older vets HOPING they would have career years...how'd that work out?? Then it's "well IF our Pitching is as good as last year and IF Yelich and Hiura etc hit like we know they can". That's all well and good, but what if those things don't happen?? Which I'd say is at best a 50-50 proposition that it works(that's probably being generous). You can't play the "well if this" game every year and hope you hit lightening in a bottle every year. Why not hedge your bets?? Why not have at least one more big bat in your lineup so IF the things don't happen that you think will, you don't completely fall of the face of the earth offensively. Why can't you have a good offense, defense and pitching staff? This dart throwing and hoping will never work consistently. This is where I am at. This lineup is in desperate need of at least one more big time bat to go along with Yelich and hopefully Hiura. Putting all the resources towards defense and just ignorong the fact that this team couldn't score at all last season is a big mistske.

Do you believe the Brewers will finish 2021 closer to 30th or 15th in runs scored? Not sure if they've incorporated JBJ yet, but Baseball Prospectus currently has the Brewers projected for 13th in runs scored, which if the pitching & defense hold up their end of the bargain should be enough for the fifth consecutive summer of competitive baseball... https://www.baseballprospectus.com/standings/ I expect the Brewers to be a lot closer to 30th than 15th. Besides Yelich and Hiura I don't see much offensive upside. Hopefully the pitching and defense allow us to win a lot of 3-2 games.

How many games did this team go into the 5th inning or later before getting its first hit of the game. Besides Yelich I don't think we can count on one other hitter being above average for their position. I believe that Hiura can be that guy but he won't be if he doesn't count down on the strikeouts. Its great that Stearns is the anti Melvin in regards to prioritizing pitching and defense but I think he is too focused on defense at the expense of hitting the baseball. We don't need to be a beer league softball team but geez this offense is weak.

I realize I am the only one that doesn't like this signing but I don't like so much of our monetary assets tied up into one position (outfield) when we are likely to have the weakest left side of the infield in the league and very likely an offense that struggles to get hits much less score the runs necessary to win enough.

How many outfielders does this team need with below average offense. Between Cain, Garcia, and now Bradley we are spending over 40 million on outfielders that don't hit all that much. This team is likely to be amongst the worst offenses in the league yet we have four outfielders accounting for almost half of the teams payroll. Defense is great and all but when you consistently struggle to get a hit much less score that defense doesn't matter all that much. Yelich needs to be the MVP level player that he can and Hiura has to be a star with the bat to carry what will be a terrible offense. Shame that Stearns doesn't seem to care about offense at all.
