  1. The offense has had a couple bad games, the starting pitching has had one good game. Save for the 9th inning rally in game 2 against the Padres, offense was bad 2 out of 3 games. Not good against the Cards. This offense is going to need to score more than 4 runs a game for this team to contend. Oh I agree but the notion that at team has to score x number of runs a game is really and indictment on the quality of the starting pitching. They just have no ability to carry the team when the offense is down. As you noted, the offense does have that ability when the pitching is down. The rotation is clearly the problem here.
  2. The offense has had a couple bad games, the starting pitching has had one good game. It's still opening week, yeah? Small sample size alert. Yeah, I was referring to the notion that the offense had been a bigger disappointment. The context was "to this point". I've said a couple of times now in this thread that it's early and the pitching can turn around, but to this point it hasn't been good.

  4. I honestly think he could start 30 times and have a 4.00 ERA at the end of it. Can't agree with you there.
  5. Based on 2 starts this year? He's a career 3.49 ERA through 17 starts. When has he ever been absolutely shelled at the major league level? Even tonight he should have given up 2 runs without the errors and bad decision from Braun. Credit him with maybe 3 at most, that will win more often than not, and he hasn't located well at all even. I really don't understand the hatred for him from a lot of posters. No one hates the guy. He seems like a good enough fella. I just don't think he is starting pitcher material. He needs to be in the pen.
  6. I've been watching that. Was going to wait until he got pulled to comment.
  7. Lester isn't throwing any harder than literally any of our guys. How come we get carved up and we can barely get on base?
  8. Hard to blame the offense when the other team is staked to a four run lead every night.
  9. It really is taking the fun out of this. It is still early and things could change but this was so predictable.
  10. I don't know if Chacin is as truly bad pitcher or not but his splits last year should have been a red flag regardless. To suggest he just got off to a slow start last year isn't fair either. He got off to a slow start because he had more road starts and got hammered. He turned it around when he started getting more home starts. He was singed to be our third starter. That's what he was when he signed, that is what he is now whether one likes it or not. Is it early, sure. Can he turn it around, sure, why not.
  11. I never hated Patrick Corbin. Wasn’t literal my friend. I get that. I'll remember the blue next time.
  12. No one is panicking and you're absolutely right that we are very early in the season. I think we all realize that at the end of the day. Having said that, the rotation has been bad. If some folks want to, rather harmlessly, vent about that in the game thread what is the harm? We don't need to be reminded of the bright side and you can easily ignore those posts.
  13. I keep telling my self it's early in the season yet but yeah, not off to a good start. There was nothing that said this was going to be a good starting rotation. All of us “arm chair” GMs knew this would be a playoff caliber 1-5 in the line up and a 70 win caliber starting rotation. We were sadly correct. Yeah, I'm still trying to wrap my head around why we couldn't trade for a pitcher I guess.
  14. That’s such a tough decision in real time. I can’t fault an OF going for an out. You're right. It just looked like he was thinking about it as he was going after it. Not a big deal.
  15. I keep telling my self it's early in the season yet but yeah, not off to a good start.
  16. Thanks to last night I have to stay up and watch this one through.
  17. Guerra will be next if you're making me not pick Miley. Yeah, I should have excluded Guerra also. Geesh, I go Derby then.
  18. This offense is going to have to score five or six a night.
