  1. (Repeats most everyone else) I really like this deal. The best case scenario is a steal, the worst case is, like others have said, better than Garza or Suuuuup.
  2. I remember a week or two ago, Ron Darling was complaining about the huge shift put on Rizzo. He had typical, old school comments. Rizzo hit the ball right at the 2b, who was in shallow right. If the shift wouldn’t have been on, it was a hit. Darling said something along the lines of... Well, they’re lucky it worked this time, while still complaining about it. Commenter- this dumb thing is dumb, thats not baseball, I would know (Dumb thing works perfectly and prevents a hit) Commenter- ya but, ya but, ya but
  3. Sheets is my go to jersey. I think it’s been long enough the jersey is a throwback, of sorts. He’s still my favorite pitcher. After CC left, I was half heartedly looking for one of his jerseys. Going back further and looking for a good conversation starter? I’d go for a Tommy Harper jersey, from the inaugural season.
  4. It's always interesting to me to see these post regular deadline trades. It seems harder to gauge how much players are valued. For us, this would have been a Luis Ortiz and two others in the top 15, maybe an Erceg and Phillips type player.
  5. Good move for the Angels. I hate seeing Trout go to waste out there. I didn't realize how good of a year Upton is having. Conversely, I sort of like seeing the franchise struggle because of that albatross of a deal they gave Pujols.
  6. The names I've seen on twitter, for what it's worth, is Gatewood, Peralta, Nottingham. It's going to be a real prospect. Not top 10 of course, but not out of the top 30. It really depends on how much cash is coming back. I don't like giving any of these listed prospects up for Neil. Bleh. Bruce, who will out produce Neil, was had for a 30th round pitcher with a 5 era in a ball.
  7. I'd be willing to barter any of my old bobbleheads from the prince fielder era or simply pay cash. Let me know if you've got an extra.
  8. I don't consider Braun, Thames, Perez or Anderson part of the teams future most likely. Those are all guys I expect to finish their contracts and be gone or just be traded at some point. Brinson and Hader are part of the future but they aren't regulars right now and aren't being placed in the impact roles they will be going on. Out of our regular starting impact players right now I think you have 5-7 guys who are going to stick around. I did forget about Pina so that is one more than i was thinking of. True, those won't be here when our high A guys are up, but the rebuild is coming along quicker than expected. I was adding them to the list in reference to next year and the year after.
  9. When you can develop pitching the way the Rays have you never have to sign it. The Brewers have been crap at that for 4 decades. On a positive note, taking a look at a small sample, we've got a few guys in the minors that we've drafted that seem to be on their way to being productive MLB pitchers. Add the improvement of Ace Chanderson and Jimmy Nelson, one could argue our new regime is better at drafting and developing pitchers. Both were written off as #5 starters or worse this past off season.
  10. Broxton in the 7 hole... allowing Arcia to see nothing but breaking balls. A nice little Arcia sandwich K Arcia K
  11. Edit : I somehow copied and pasted my last post. Formatting is not my thing.
  12. I'd disagree with the placeholder thing. Pina Thames Arcia Shaw All three OF Hernan Ace Chanderson Jimmy Hader Knebel That's a solid core, keeping in mind we have plenty more coming up soon that will not only join the core but push the bar higher. You mentioned locking some up. That's what I'm getting at... will Arcia, who I think is a top tier SS, get a 10 year deal or does DS dink and dunk his way through the next competitive phase? I'm not disagreeing with the pitfalls of signing one person to a huge contract, I was asking HOW DS will navigate the competitive phase? I should have been more clear. I was trying to start a conversation on HOW DS will navigate, now that we've seen him for a bit.
  13. In regards to the rebuild, does anyone see DS signing a monster deal? Dallas Kuechel will be a FA in 1.5 years and will be 31 Same with Harper, but he'll be 21 by then. (How do I make that blue?) My pipe dream is for DS to make a Scherzer type signing, where the dude continues his peak and gets even better. I understand it's an anomaly, but that's got to be one the best Big FA signings in recent history. He's been the best pitcher in baseball for a bit now. Looking at history, most huge signs would weigh us down for the last half of the contract. What's the next big step? A huge FA signing? Does DS trade a Plenty of top kids for an ace with a few years left? Does he let things play out and pull a DM and sign a 4th SP when we're contending? What do you see DS doing, as we are now in the next step of the rebuild?
  14. Good non-trade. Gray wouldn't have gotten us to the level of the top few in the NL.
  15. I was thinking a few hours ago... when will I see "jeffress to the Brewers for ptbnl?" I'd like to think I've got an above average knowledge of our minor league system. I had to google this Scott character. Was he an Indy league sign two years ago?
  16. 2 months rentals was not the plan. It was young controllable talent, or so I thought. The cost would be prohibitive. Let's see what Hand gets for the Padres. If I'm looking at it right, he's got 2 or 3 years left after this year. Also, look back at what thornburg got for us. A good GM will not be rigid to anything. I'd love for Stearns to win every trade and fleece the league. I'd love for him to get controllable talent at every turn but this is a different time in the process. Cordell did not have a future. How else would he be able to help the Brewers more than this? If this reliever is the market for Cordell, that's all we can get for him. I've been hoping from the beginnng of this trading season that they make a few adjustments and let what we already have do the major work. I don't want huge splashes because it means giving up too much talent.
  17. Edit--- this was supposed to be in response to the REMINDS ME OF LINEBRINK TRADE comment. I'm still figuring this formatting out. With the Linebrink trade, however, we gave up three players, those of which consisted a much higher percentage of our farm's worth compared to Cordell. This reminds me of the 2007 Ray Durham trade. We sent two fringe prospects who had a possible mlb future for a dude that had two months left and was at the bottom end of the 25 man roster.
  18. I've been questioning the "brewers will trade for gray" rumors. This type of deal is exactly what I was hoping for. Trade from our depth we won't use and don't have room for and get something that will help. It's not a franchise altering trade, but improves our biggest deficiency. Go DS!
  19. Out of curiosity, which prospects on our were previously on the MLB top 100 list? Maverick Bickford J Lopez Nottingham Clark Lara? Kodi right out of the draft? Tyrone Taylor? He was our #1 at one point, but was he top 100? Also, Burnes should be in this year's top 100. Gatewood should be a bit higher.
  20. Kyle Barraclough for Maverick and Kodi
  21. According to Patrick OKennedy, "More than 90 percent of players who are going to "make it" to the major leagues will do so within five seasons of being drafted." Tim Dillard has been in the minors for 15 years. He's obviously seasoned, having 3x the minor league experience as the normal prospect making the majors. The average MLB career is 5.6 years. Extrapolating the numbers, we can easily assume that Tim's MLB career, should it start in earnest later this year, should last (5.6 x 3) at least until 2033, when he's roughly 50 years old. Why would we trade him now when we have over 16 years of MLB production left?
  22. It's harder to scam the DL like in the minors, but this is exactly what I thought when I saw this... being optioned without being optioned.
  23. Baseballfact (twitter) had a fun stat that puts Scooter in perspective. One monster, historic, day doesn't mean Stearns made a mistake. Scooter Gennett has 5 hr's since April 11.
  24. My favorite thing about Melvin was how he handled the bottom of the roster. He consistently found another teams scraps and turned them into useful players. He also rarely, if ever lost anyone on waivers that ended up being useful. He had a knack for sliding useful guys into aaa when other teams were full and couldn't take anyone on. Melvin wouldn't have lost Diaz to the padres.
