Too bad about Jimmy and hopefully we get him back good as new next year. Here's hoping Chase has just as good a game today and another win for the Crew in Chicago.
The team has one bonafide superstar and that is Braun who isn't playing like one anymore. Stearns didn't go out and get a superstar slugger who would command $20/year. He signed Thames and traded for Shaw along with minor leaguers. Thames was a superstar for a couple of months. He signed Walker. Shaw is an everyday third baseman hitting well but has slowed down since the AS Game and part of that is due to getting hit in the neck and fouling pitches off his foot twice. He is banged up and instead of complaining and going on the DL he took a day off and was right back out there. Aguilar has hit well. Pina has hit well. Everyone else has hit well at times. Milwaukee is a small market team with good players and one star making the big bucks and one under achieving pitcher making the big bucks. The latter should be gone after this year. The other will probably retire a Brewer because no other team will pay him the big contract.
After the sweep by the Reds it's hard for me to be optimistic but as someone posted the Brewers play up for the good teams and down for the bad. So I am hopeful that the Crew play very well pitched games for this series and the hitters get the runners home. Go Brewers!
The Brewers, 0.5 games out of the Wild Card, just drew sub 18k last Thursday. So, yeah. We don't really care either. Excuse me, last Thursday, Aug. 31, attendance was 26,384.
Now the supposed Red killer Thames strikes out swinging with a roar from the crowd (I guess you can call it a crowd). Yesterday had only 12,000 plus for attendance. I thought Tampa fans were the only ones who didn't care.
The Reds starters have been very good this series but the Crew just haven't hit with men aboard. Without clutch hitting and pitching this team doesn't sniff the playoffs and they had better get going or we will just have to be happy with how they played in the first half of the year.
Jeffress has definitely been a positive today and since he returned. I think he needs to stay a Brewer. He hasn't done well anywhere else and he is needed right here for the bullpen.
Why isn't Thames in the lineup. He does well against the Reds and he sits. We had better not see Barnes today either. He was left in too long and the game got out of hand fast last night. A good game from Garza today is really crucial to salvage at least one win in this series. I have my doubts but I will be very happy to be surprised if he does get a win today.
