  1. Balfour certainly is just another guy at this point. He has to locate his fastball and rarely throws that slider for a strike. He only throws 1-3 mph faster than Suppan and Capuano for heaven sakes, he's not a dominant 2 pitch guy.
  2. Carlos has been used over Wise for about 2 months now. Wise only is "the 7th inning guy" when CV is off from pitching the day before.
  3. 1. If they go with 13 pitchers, it would have to be Gross or Gwynn. 2. If they do not, it would have to be Parra or Balfour. Manny looked outstanding, while Grant has struggled. Carlos has little velocity on his fastball, and may be suffering from dead arm. There's a DH next Saturday, and if you plan on starting Parra, he actually cannot go down, as barring injury, he's in AAA for 10 days. I'd guess it's an OF.
  4. You lose your right to free speech when you enter Miller Park with a derogatory sign of any kind, never mind one that includes a slur against gays.
  5. Gord Ash has said on a couple occasions Parra will probably be a relief guy.
  6. I actually forgot then AG Doyle spoke to my poli sci class at UWEC.
  7. I have to imagine 15 points and 11.6 rebounds per 48 minutes ranks him as a quality backup C.
  8. He's basically Eric Young, a speed guy who has little speed left. He'll get a 1-2 year reputation contract, but at the end of the day, he's Gwynn Jr. without the ceiling.
  9. They never switch #1/2's to the bullpen. I'd say he's a bottom of the rotation guy, maybe a #3 if things break perfectly.
  10. Ride your motorcycle all you want Dave. I wonder if his dad thinks the Crew and D'Backs ruined his career?
  11. You wanna know how obscure Brian Mallette is? I had to look up his name on BR.com because I could not recall it, when I mentioned him in another thread a week ago.
  12. This is as obscure as it gets...when I was a pizza guy in Eau Claire, the guy in charge told me to take this one and that one. As I got ready, he changed his mind and gave "that one" to another driver. "That one" ended up being a hotel run, where he delivered to Joe Theisman, the NFL QB best known for his gruesome broken leg. He was in town to speak at a coaching thing/banquet.
  13. Wright would be cheap, and I suggested they sign him to a minor league deal in the offseason as well...however, I don't see a place for him unless another SP goes down. Even then, Parra would be the "extra" guy for the rotation, and many would say they'd rather have Manny than Jamey.
  14. I'd say there is all but 0.0% chance Bonds makes a single PA in Miller Park if he hits #754 before they leave Sunday.
  15. While Izturis is close to wortless, I guess Wilson is worthless and expensive...so Cesar would be an upgrade.
  16. If you'll notice, you hardly ever see a fastball in the strike zone anymore for JJ. Until he stops chasing high heat and breaking balls in the dirt, he won't see many either.
  17. No interest until he's healthy, and you cannot trade a guy on the DL, which he will soon be on, it would appear.
  18. I doubt if Tony is allowed to be placed on bereavement leave for such an event, though no one seems to be very concerned about they reasons guys are put on the list. Tony Jr. will probably be back in AAA before then anyway...Hall is due back early next week.
  19. DH, Escobar is available, he's blocked by JJ. I would assume if this rumor is true, which it is not, Jenks would be dealt for a reliever.
  20. That might take the cake thus far. I know Krivsky likes his relief guys, but...
  21. Geoff is not going to bring much, he's either making $9M in '08 or is a 2 month rental.
  22. Morris is having a nice year, and has had a nice career. I'm not sure what his contract situation is, but he'd be a nice rental.
  23. Ndogg, Ned is simply doing more to win each game, managing a bit more to a minute advantage. If the team was 10 below .500, they'd let Rickie hit his way out of it. Still, he isn't forgetting about the season...they gave Derrick a night off, and will probably give Frankie off either tonight or tomorrow.
  24. I can't believe just those two would get the Crew Willis, he's not even a rental is he? Throw in a blocked INF though, they might listen.
  25. False. No way the Brewers would dream of dealing 2 SP's and an OF for another OF...would he start over Geoff? He might be a small upgrade, but you don't trade 2 members of the rotation for a minor upgrade.
