  1. I don't see Gwynn ever being as good as Roberts He already is: Roberts career--.341/.368, good defender, 80% SB success. Gwynn, 2007--.368/.356, good defender, 6-7 SB Prerequisite small sample disclaimer, but to many teams, they are drooling about having Tony playing CF for them, and being really cheap for a while as well. Roberts did not even get a chance until he was 27, and Tony should continue to get better for a stretch as well. Gwynn does not do some things, but look at the career Luis Castillo had, or Brett Butler, in addition to Pierre and Roberts. Someone, probably many teams, want him slapping away at the top of their lineup and patrolling CF everyday, while in reality, he is better suited to bat 8th and platoon. The fact TEX was willing to deal possibly the best reliever available for him would seem to prove his value is high right now, at least to a few teams. Let's not forget, Tony is a prototypical lead-off CF...many teams love that. Does that make him worth more than he should be? Yep, and so be it. My only concern is I'd rather deal him for a younger pitcher if he indeed is that loved by MLB.
  2. Online poker. I won a satellite for the Hundred Grand guaranteed tourney on Stars today, which is capped at 15K entrants. So, last night, I played a freeroll with 10K people, to see about the structure. 5.5 hours later, I was out in 33rd place...it's gonna be a long day if I do well.
  3. Brett, if he has games like last night, it'll go up. He's a Dave Roberts clone, and better than Juan Pierre by far right now. If he keeps running down balls in the gap, has good PA's, and gets his hits, he'll be on many a team's wish list.
  4. There are a lot of guys like Spurling available, as Brett hinted at. He has value, but not much. There are a couple guys on every AAA roster that are similar, just not as consistent, and so on.
  5. I don't see it as much of an upgrade...Carlos is probably a bit better than Vargas, but Weathers is not as good as Carlos...it may be slight, but hardly worth throwing a bunch of youngsters at them. Guys like Riske and Weathers can be had for nearly nothing at the deadline, especially if they are making a lot of cash. You don't need to make a package to acquire one, they can be had for a ptbnl.
  6. Unless a time machine is included, I don't think Nomar can play SS anymore.
  7. Honestly, I have no idea if it is, it's a bit of a cliche. However, there are about 5K minor leaguers, and only about 1500 at AA or above, and as you mentioned, many of them are low ceiling vets hoping for one more season, or month, in the bigs. So, it would seem to make sense this is the level many prospects struggle at.
  8. Peavey, I like my pizza a bit on the undercooked side, and it usually takes about 10-12 minutes, though our oven does seem to pre-heat pretty quick. I'm counting the time it takes to dig out the Pizazz and assemble it, but it's usually done in about 8, plus the time it took to get the machine out and together.
  9. Sorry Jim, it was Pogo who said "slowly turning around". My memory recalled it as the other, and I just assumed it was you since it was the post that included the link to the box score. I probably still hold Zach Jackson as a better prospect than Inman, so I'm in the vast minority. If Wil was 6-5, I'd love him...but he's not.
  10. We're on our 2nd Pizazz, though I rarely dig it out anymore...not any quicker than the oven (maybe a couple minutes). It's a nice machine if you have room to leave it out on the counter, but otherwise, I'd pass. We got one of them at the Presto outlet in Eau Claire...they are about $10 less there.
  11. I mentioned Sanders in my recap a couple weeks ago. He'd be a very solid addition, but makes more sense to an AL team.
  12. .305 career OBP, and he had one really solid year, not surprisingly at 27. I think his career numbers are pretty close to Mench's down '07, so i can't say I have an interest.
  13. I don't think the trade is unfair, but it barely improves the Crew, and limits their depth for when Griffey inevitably goes down. It's just a "go after the big name" type deal to me. Also, I'm not sure what Junior's contract is, but I gotta believe it's awful.
  14. Mass, Inman's ERA is still 8+. While his outing did not suck, he has overall. "Settling in" may be a bit more optimistic than truthful at this point. I have not shared the Inman love (though admit he's been outstanding at A ball and below) because of his small frame, and I probably see him as more of a #5 guy or a solid middle reliever (not that there's anything wrong with that) than most. He's got plenty of time to recover from hitting the wall, though, he's very young.
  15. Most all arguments that use BA are a bit 1970's to me. It's almost like discussing leeching on a medical board...while not totally worthless, we've moved beyond much use of it.
  16. Pardon me if I do not get upset about losing to an all-star, or a guy who should be one. I'm more concerned about Sheets throwing 87-90 all day.
  17. I'm all for Lofton, and was before. His "type", a 4th OF capable of playing all 3 spots and, solid D; is exactly what would be nice for the stretch run. Some will say Gwynn also meets those specifications.
  18. Well, Gwynn is a fine defender, and to be honest, I don't see a lot of RH platoon guys just sitting around waiting to be picked up for nothing...heck, many people want to lose Mench. If Hall is out, I would assume Tony would get the call.
  19. I'd say his chance would be as a utility guy, you never know if he can 1B/2B/3B/LF.
  20. Stand-up does not seem to be the best forum for his material. He's more different than funny, much like Matt V. I wonder if he developed the fake cough as a way to stifle the hecklers. He told like 6 jokes in 5 minutes, so he probably needed a way to stretch out his stuff.
  21. They ran out of ideas ages ago. This one is as pointless as they come.
  22. If you don't care about price, Connie's is really good.
  23. Durham might be considered if Weeks were out for the year. I can't see him being picked up to sit on the bench 5-6 days a week. EDIT: He's signed for $7M this year and $7.5M next. No way.
  24. Thank goodness Doug ignored the pleas of the board and did not offer him arby.
  25. Bon Jovi's new one is pretty much all softer stuff, but it's fine. Only one I've added.
