  1. How is he a step up from Tony and Craig?
  2. Gwynn is nowhere near as good as he will be. I'd say Roberts/Gwynn will be a toss-up in a year or two. I certainly would not base much on Tony's few ML AB's. Both will be very good defensive players, and both will have decent OBP's and little pop.
  3. I don't understand why folks don't think he compares well to Dave Roberts. They project into nearly the same player.
  4. Most wear short skirts, but other than that, just business casual.
  5. I loved Craig...Jon Stewart doesn't seem to realize his show is not a real news show.
  6. There's a cost to fame. That seems to be what this entire thread confirms. However, if she can turn this into a single ad after her NCAA days are over, she'll probably be happy with the exchange. And to be honest, she isn't any more attractive than the dozens of 18-21 year-olds who work at the phone bank in our office building.
  7. If Damian wants to be a backup and the Brewers need a backup, I think he'll be back. They both like each other, and he'd probably take less to play in MIL.
  8. He's 29 and has not pitched in the bigs for years, and is coming off surgery. AAA relievers with good numbers...that's a pool about 60 deep. Some are younger, some throw harder, some are true prospects. If a team had offered us much for Balfour, he'd be either up or gone, as Doug does not hold back minor league vets from big league service time. A team like TB or DC should be calling all over looking for guys like this, and I'm sure they do somewhat. For the most part, even veteran middle relief guys going to contenders at the deadline bring back a middling prospect. Balfour, until he proves himself in the bigs, is worth very little.
  9. There was another Brewers' pitcher who never served his suspension...Brian Marquete? Magidan? Middle-long reliever, pitched well in AAA for a year or two, and was passable in the bigs. EDIT: Brian Mallette.
  10. Sickels numbers on Prince...take a gander at his doubles. They are embarrassingly low. Not sure how anyone that hit 35-40 HR's could hit 20-25 doubles...doubles are a power stat, deep fly balls turn into doubles more than anything else.
  11. this team has played 1/3 of a season (56 games) since starting 24-10 and is 4 under 500, including laying an egg during a 2-5 stretch against two pretty bad teams. There is at least some cause for concern i think. So, if you take out a team's good stretches, they will not have a very good record? Go figure. You can do that for every team in MLB, by the way.
  12. As stated, he's hellishly overpaid baseball wise, maybe by $10-12M. But, marketing and merchandise wise, he's worth every penny. He's not going to get any better toward the end of that deal. He's making too much now, and will be moreso annually.
  13. Considering I said a while back I'd probably have Zach Jackson ahead of Wil Inman, I've already embarrassed myself enough without commenting on the latest P50.
  14. If you needed someone to start a couple games and give you 5-6 innings and not suck, he'd be fine. He might even make it as a middle reliever, as his K's per 9 are impressive. That said, he'd be lucky to keep his ERA under 5 in the NL or 5.5 in the AL, as a SP. Better than replacement level, but his lack of ceiling limits his worth. To sum up, he might be Gary Glover or Jamey Wright.
  15. As End pointed out, you'd be trading Graffy for himself, and throwing in a good SP for nothing. The only thing you'd pick up is a bit of speed, and Dean Taylor is not around to overpay for that.
  16. I think the offense needs a shot in the arm 2nd in the NL in runs scored...can you imagine the outcry if they were 4th? Considering Vargas would quite possibly be non-tendered after the season, I think it's likely we'll see a Vargas-for-reliever or Vargas-for-RH-OFer before the deadline. Why would he be non-tendered? He has a ton of value, even at $5M per. And why the talk of Vargas for a reliever...how good would that relief guy have to be to be better than Carlos V? A SP for a platoon OF? Talk about a waste of resources.
  17. Balfour is worth all but nothing as trade bait right now, his ceiling is as a middle reliever, and he's 29. He is good depth for the bullpen, and that's about it.
  18. She's not boney. I see that as a positive.
  19. Casey, our power has gone out like 3 times in 5.5 years in the Wausau area...do you live on a lightning rod?
  20. Rachael Ray is the perfect example of a gal that you don't really think is all that great, and then your friend starts dating her, and the more you hang out with her, the more you like her. Everything my wife has made of hers is very good, though loaded with calories and butter.
  21. Prince would not appear to be built for a marathon.
  22. I give points for originality. That said, I think Prince might be able to play LF before Pena. The time to pick up Carlos was before his superb '07, not now.
  23. It's homer friendly though, Joe. Doug has built the club to be long ball friendly (and xbh a bit), for the home park.
  24. Young team, and they are built for MP, especially the offense. Much of it is overstated, as you should be better at home. Much like when radio hosts start figuring out records in jersey tops, I get pretty bored...over 162 is really all that matters.
  25. Reading through this thread, I understand how Al must feel at times. I'm not even sure what you mean, Robert, but thanks for thinking of me. They're laughing all the way to the bank, that's for sure.
