  1. Scooter's closer to where he should be. Is Fiers too old, or just too low ceiling?
  2. I don't see Greinke signing an extension. I think he sees himself having a great '12 and selling himself to the highest bidder.
  3. Briggs' proposed deal would leave us short 130 innings. COL also has terrible results with breaking ball guys. They don't work at altitude.
  4. It's coming up. Not sure of the day. Might well be just Gindl and Manzanillo, Merklinger is getting hit in the AFL.
  5. I like Fiers and Peralta, but last year we were saying Rogers or Parra could start if needed...how'd that work out? Estrada and others are darn good, quality 6th SP's, but make them the 4th/5th SP because of trade/injury, and suddenly, your staff looks like the Astros.
  6. Doug will wait until the market cools down and see who is left. Saito isn't able to do back-to-back days or more than one inning, so it won't be him, unless they just go with a group. Francisco was a good bet, but so many teams need a closer, he looks to get a 9th inning job. A guy recovering from injury, like Broxton, or Capps, looking to reestablish himself as a closer, would be good bets.
  7. Denver never drew as a AAA town either. Minor league attendance is rarely an indicator of major league attendance. The Admirals, Wave, and UWM basketball all draw about 4K a contest, so you'd never think the Brewers could average almost 40K.
  8. Wolf is the only SP who has an option for '13, so I'd look to trade Marcum or Greinke. That said, I'd have a deal in place with another FA SP (unless one comes back for Wolf, which seems silly).
  9. If he could play SS, I'd take him as a utility player if SEA paid all but $1M a year. Since he can't, no.
  10. Supposedly, St. Louis is considered the favorite should MLS expand. Not sure if the Cosmos will be team #20 or not, no progress in a year or so.
  11. I feel Furcal projects higher than Rollins, but is more of an injury risk...he might sign for 1-2 seasons though because of it. Rollins will get 4 minimum.
  12. Briggs, I'm saying he's just like many other RH hitters, good minor league signing. Almost every organization have a guy or two just like this, especially at a corner spot.
  13. Carroll gets on base way more and can play SS. He's already underpaid, after one more signing. I'd rather have Farris for $400K than Ellis for $4M, and yes, I realize Eric isn't very good. Ellis is a solid defender, but his range will be tough to maintain as he gets older.
  14. I would, but since many people think it is a 1% tax (rather than the .1%), and the city of Milwaukee has done nothing to even find a place for a new Bucks' arena, never mind get the ball rolling, I don't think it has a chance, unless a suburb steps forward. I've looked, Milwaukee isn't even on top ten lists regarding MLS expansion/relocation. FYI, there will be 19 teams next season, so that's 18 home games, plus a couple international exhibitions. 20 times 18K or so is 360K, about 12% of the Crew's attendance, and all but a game or two is on a Saturday or Sunday. Kansas City just built a state of the art soccer stadium and sold out almost every game, with some people saying it is the best place to play in the world. If KC can do it, Milwaukee certainly "could." It would take an owner such as Mark A to get it done, and if there was a local soccer tycoon, we'd have probably heard of their interest by now.
  15. As the Twins have shown, any team may be one year away from rebuilding. However, with a nucleus signed and young talent coming up, I doubt it.
  16. At $15M+ over the next 3 years, he's far from cheap. I like him, but Green might give you 90% (or more) of the production for 10% of the cost. You can't throw several million at every hole, or you're out of cash with plenty of holes left. Many fail to see that's why Gamel and Green have so much value...they cost so little. No one's going to deny there are better options out there if you have an unlimited payroll, but the Crew doesn't. There are better catchers than Lucroy, better closers than Axford, better 5th SP's than Narveson. But in order to fit the guys that make $7-10M, you need several minimum salary guys.
  17. Carroll will play 5-6 days a week, probably taking off many day games after night games. It is shocking to me that even with a decade of discussion, how underrated OBP is by many, who barely seem to understand it is the measure of not making an out.
  18. 1B/LF with a .300 OBP don't have much demand. Might be a nice role player as a lefty masher, but they're a dime a dozen, especially at offensive positions. Be a very nice minor league signing, and he might find a spot on the big club at some point.
  19. The Twins win, everyday SS. Terry Ryan strikes again, ignores Gardy's "SS has to be fast" mantra, immediately improves horrible offense.
  20. He's a solid middle infielder who gets on base. Love to have him, but 2 of 3 teams are Jays and Twins, so unlikely.
  21. If Reyes is a target, they are counting on Gamel for the most part, and maybe Green. In that case, his $425K salary is far more important than his production, for projections at least. Rod Barajas just signed for $4M. You're not getting Gamel's projected line of .340/.440 in this market for much less than that.
  22. There are only two types of pitchers, those who have had arm/shoulder surgery or those who will have arm/shoulder surgery. I'd much rather sign a position player long-term than a pitcher.
  23. Golf is a bore. I tried to like it, as it's a lifelong sport, but it's so tough not to suck. And long. Really long.
  24. It seems like I recall some sort of "laundry" stipend for athletes, a minimal amount, like $15 a week.
