  1. Has anyone thought of David Gruber in this????
  2. I'm really down on this team. While your statement is certainly true, I see this team as more like the 2013 team that went one and done, losing to Marshall Henderson and Ole Miss 57-46. I don't think the matchup mattered in that game. The team played so badly that they would have lost to just about anyone. I mean, Henderson was 1 of 13 at one point, Ole Miss only scored 57 on offense while doing nothing special on defense, and that team was never in the game. This team is capable of that type of performance. Consider that in the Iowa game that guys not named Potter went 3-27 on TWO point shots. They have just not been fun nor exciting to watch. That team went 4-0 against national runner-up Michigan and a top 10 Indiana team with Zeller and Oladipo. It had one of the best defenses in the kenpom/efficiency era. And was absolutely terrible on offense. This team is much better offensively than that team. And much worse defensively. The second half against Michigan (and the first Michigan game) was one of the only times I really thought the offense struggled to get decent looks. They just have to go down. Everybody is a streaky shooter...hopefully they all get hot at once. Hard to say "much better offensively" KenPom has them at 112.1 in offensive efficiency this year, 108.3 in 2013. They are still 8th in Defensive efficiency (89.8 this year, 85.2 in 2013), so it's not like they are horrible on defense. But, forget the stats, there's what I'm seeing with my eyes. My point was that they are absolutely capable of barfing up a performance like the 2013 team did, where they weren't going to win that game, period. When they go the last 7 minutes against Maryland without a basket, or the last 4.5 minutes against NW without scoring a point, thinking, "well, at least they are better offensively than the 2013 team" is no comfort.
  3. I literally put together a whole post on this topic... viewtopic.php?f=63&t=39979 Even with climbing K/HR rates, balls are still put in play very often, 63.8% of PAs in 2019 ended with a ball in play vs 36.2% which ended in a K/BB/HR/HBP. There were 186,516 plate appearances in 2019. Take out the strikeouts (42,823), walks (15,895), home runs (6,776) & hit by pitch (1,984) and you are left with 119,038 PAs ending with a ball in play. Remove the singles (25,947), doubles (8,531) & triples (785) and that leaves 83,775 balls in play which were converted into outs or errors, 195% of the strikeout total. As long as there outs to be made in the field, it will always be advantageous to convert as many of them as possible. And by my count, 12,541 of those singles were infield singles that the Brewers gave up last year. Hoping better defense cuts down on those in 2021.

  5. He may get the Donald Sterling treatment. "We are so mad at you, Donald, we are going to punish you by making you sell the Clippers. Just to show you how mad we are, here is $2 billion. I hope you think about what you did!"
  6. And the Steelers play in Green Bay this season, so it will have some extra meaning if he signs with either of those teams.
  7. My wife, not at all a sports fan, looked up from her book when it was 16-0 in the fourth quarter and said, "Why are you so nervous? They can't lose this, can they?"
  8. Or, trade Arod to Indy for Jonathan Taylor and draft picks, then send the picks to Seattle for Russell Wilson, change the name to Camp Randall North, and be done with it.
  9. I see mention, here and other places, about Watt taking a hometown discount. I guess anyone saying that is assuming that some team will offer him up to franchise-player money. But is that even true? I know it only takes one team to blow it up, but it's possible that Watt's $ ceiling and what the Packers could pay him are the same amount. May not have to take the hometown discount at all.
  10. Which leads me to another sub-question. Do agents lose money when their clients get suspended for PEDs? Don't know for sure, but I would guess agents get their percentage taken out of every paycheck, so they probably don't get paid for years opted out of & their pay was likely also cut during the shortened season in proportion with their clients' salaries. Likewise with PEDs I would imagine, though maybe suspended players still pay their agents out of pocket during that time as kind of a retainer or good faith gesture? I always assumed it was like entertainment industry agents. Warner Brothers or whoever sends the money to the agents for contracts they negotiate, agents take their cut and pass it on to the actors. Otherwise agents would be constantly chasing their money from actors who didn't give them their cut. I would imagine sports agents want their cut first, given how bad some athletes are with their money. SAG/AFTRA has rules about how quickly moneys need to be paid, and sometimes there is the step of the actor sending it to the actor's manager, but that's how it works there. So if an athlete doesn't get paid due to suspension, the agent wouldn't either. Would be very surprised if any "good faith" money is going out.
  11. Do you want Turner?
  12. He's been 'continuing to work out and stay in shape" but he is not in the best shape of his career. Pass.
  13. That was interesting. San Diego makes all those moves and still doesn't come within seven games of first? That's rough. Same with the White Sox.
  14. You just ruined someone's day with this stat.
  15. I loved Jim Adduci! He had a sweet swing... and the distinction of having a lower OBP in 1988 than BA due to no walks & 1 or 2 sac flies. To your point, he was a bench guy and blocked no one. I had no point. My whole post was an attempt at humor. I thought an Adduci truther might say something about that when I posted it.
  16. I still lie awake at night wondering how the Brewers are going to find playing time for their three first basemen: Tim Pyznarski, Joey Meyer, and Billy Jo Robidoux. Especially when they are blocked by Jim Adduci!
  17. Nice!! That is a prediction with really good odds! I just watched Tenet so batters from the future is really freaking me out right now.
  18. Why not? It's baseball! Gotta be excited during Hot Stove! Team is undefeated.
  19. Didn't read every post, but has anyone mentioned Urias in all of this? Edit: Funny, the one page I skipped was page 6 and that has some people mentioning Urias as Utility. Do people think this makes him the Brewers' 3B?
  20. Is your projection system basically limited to players' time with the Brewers? Well, he watched Yelich in 2018 and 2019 and considers him not "consistently great", so I'd say no.
  21. I read that the Rockies are paying Arenado's entire 2021 salary. That should make the Cardinal bottom line look real nice this year. And if Arenado walks for his option year, it really means they got him cheap.
  22. I have a feeling that Leonhard gets to bypass the MAC-level HC job. His ten years in the NFL, praise from his NFL head coaches, and quick rise at UW bode well for him. We will probably be saying, "we knew him when" in a few years.
  23. To keep this thread from becoming derailed, you should probably just Google it.
  24. Did most voters really have that view on him, or did they know at the time that the public view was false? If the voters of that time period knew the true story about Ty Cobb, then it wouldn't have been an issue. I think the sportswriters knew as much, if not more, in Cobb's day than they do now. They rode the same trains as the team. The perhaps-true story of Babe Ruth being chased through a train by a woman with a knife is one of many that have been passed down. Anytime I think of the sportwriters being the gatekeepers, I think of that POS Bill Conlin.
  25. Hisle was hurt in 79, only played in 26 games. After his 34 HR, 115 RBI season in 78, he taught me a valuable lesson that we can't have nice things. The next four seasons combined he played in 80 games total with 15 HR and 46 RBI.
