  1. Ok who are you burying because you want to try an allstar elsewhere. Where's Chacin Suter? Where's Burnes Peralta? Where's anyone in the next wave who arrives in under 3 years? How many years of all star are you willing to blow "trying" it.
  2. Hold my beer ~Braun The most frustrating part with Arcia is we've all seen him succeed and what it looks like. He's nowhere close and seems to be trying to be something he's not. Just get hits. Even the game winner the other night was 4 balls 6 inches outside.
  3. You know how I can tell your grumpy and looking for a fight ----^ You know quite well there is a difference between... "lets try our all star reliever as a starter, despite the fact that he's only gone 5 ip in the minors, despite his elite strike out stuff, due to control issues... and never giving a guy a shot. You have an all star... "but we could have more!!!" Or we could waste 2 years of having an all star non closing reliever, something that's very very rare, so we can try for more. It's not even like we are short on options in the near future. He gets a shot... cross off woodruff and Peraltas shot in the next 2-3 years cuz that's all but done. It's like playing Yelich in CF... you got a GG LF... but more!!! Name relievers like him not named Miller. Miller's a god. Haders streaking towards that territory. Hit a 1 in 100,000 want a 1 in a billion. Great way to screw up a great hit.
  4. Hader did that in the minors for years at an extremely high level. Now suddenly it's impossible for him to pitch 5 innings? No. But assuming it will go WELL at the mlb level is quite a leap of faith.
  5. "Knebel Albers Williams Jeffress Jennings Peralta Houser Lopez Suter Griep and others" Complete bull. There aren't many Andrew Millers out there and Haders absolutely trending that way. Poor mans... could easily be dropped the moment he steps into the post season. Miller sucked as a starter too. "Who can give you 5 great innings to start a game?" Is Hader even on that list? Velasquez was supposed to be but so far not close. If you wanted to drop from 5 innings to 2 innings and change to 3 innings I'm listening. We've seen him 2nd time through for 2 batters total? Answer is 10... and I won't use 10 pa to prove anything but the numbers do spike.
  6. I may have missed it, but did someone actually do this? I saw most compare Hader to Sale...in a round about way, not sure of Phillips to Sale. Sorry if I missed it. I assume he was joking that the Phillips thread was twisted into a Hader/Sale thread. Yup that's what happened. I do wonder if Phillips could locate though. He has a Rivero level arm.
  7. Yeah as for injuries... makes zero sense in season and we agree there. My concern... how long do you use him as a starter like McCullers or Velasquez before you go... oops back to being a 100 inning 2 era pen piece. Velasquez is filthy... can't get under 5 era. I bet he'd be a monster pen piece. Mccullers is a 4.7 war in 3 years... was an all star Velasquez is a 2.7 war in 3 years. Haders 2.1 war in 54 innings for gods sake. On his way to beating their war in less than half the time. These guys aren't chumps either. 2019 throw out Chacin and Suter. Nelson Anderson Davies Burnes.... question time Hader Peralta Woodruff Ignoring Ponce Ortiz Brown Kodi Jankins Who can be Hader as he is now? Peralta maybe. Who can rival Hader in the rotation... many more options most likely. If we package Woodruff Ortiz for another Davies level guy... the discussion is over. Hader and Peralta are in the pen and thats lovely. Knebel Albers Hader Williams Barnes Jennings Peralta... jeffress houser lopez suter is filthy. That's an opening day playoff pen.
  8. "He COULD be a future ace that needs time to develop as a starting pitcher." Yeah but where is all this going to happen? Anderson Davies are starting thats done. You have Chacin and I doubt you hook him soon. Woodruff Burnes Peralta already makes 6. Nelson 7. I could see Anderson Davies Chacin Burnes Peralta/Woodruff by June. Nelson bumps 1. Suter has no spot but long. Houser ditto. Throw Hader into that mix too? How? Guys a weapon as is. What could be is a nice thought but theres a list of what could bes piling up here. That's a great problem, but how you play them all is a problem. If we wanted Hader in the starting rotation I think they would have tried that before signing Chacin or handing the ball to Suter.
  9. You aren't wrong at all. The team would have to give up high value prospects to get a younger controllable starter in return, no doubt. I'm sure, though, that the team has certain values attached to all their high-level prospects, and some will be easier to get than others. If they trade those high-value guys, the return should be expected to be significant ... I guess like the pitcher version of Yelich. Guys like Stroman and Fullmer fall into that category. Archer too, I guess, to a lesser degree. A lot depends on where they are at standings-wise as well. If they are in striking distance once the calendar turns to July, and the rotation is still having issues, I have no doubt that they will make a move for a big name. Of course, guys like Burnes, Peralta and Houser could theoretically be up in the rotation by then, along with Nelson back, so the point may be moot. I sure hope Burnes Peralta aren't dealt. I could stomach Woody Ortiz because I think their assent will take longer to fine tune but Burnes Peralta seem ready to contribute now atleast in some fashion.
  10. "Young pitchers usually go through growing pains for their first season or two in the league. Just because they have great minor league track records and/or prospect pedigrees doesn't mean that they enter the majors to immediate success." The bar is set pretty low so far. Really anything sub 4.7 would go a long way.
  11. Pat McInerney 6 of 20 4 doubles 2 hr 1.8 years old for A ball. UDFA add 2017... hmmm Appleton is a pretty weak squad. Lutz kj henry file herrera bowden and a lot of meh.
  12. Khris Davis makes it close at home. He's a fine defender, or so I'm told, because he hits 40 hrs. Blue
  13. Yeah our sky is falling vibe ignores that we are percentage points behind the 5-4 cubs. Up on the cards dodgers and nats. Pirates Mets Braves... Diamondbacks finally a team we expected to be behind or contending with... is the only 1 we trail that should be a threat.
  14. Well without Cain Yelich we'd likely be 3-8 and in a hole. The only bat producing besides them is Aguilar. Our O numbers are way off last years pace and they've pulled the numbers up dramatically. My season continues to be... watch the farm... hope the big league club stays a tick above 500.
  15. "'If thats the case however, I believe that the Cain signing and the Yelich trade were done with an eye on truly competing in 2020-2022, and having this year and next as the last of the rebuild. This also would explain why the Brewers did not sign a better quality/higher priced starting pitcher." I'd think its more 2018.5-2022. We've already seen Houser Woodruff Williams so they aren't messing around. They could have easily toyed with yo and a few retreds but the kids are getting a crack at this. Most everyone figured Burnes Peralta would be hidden in AA to avoid CS this year but they got very agressive with their pitching promotions. CC already pointed to June for not only Burnes but Peralta. I was stunned by June and the inclusion of Peralta. This wave of arms (Williams Burnes Peralta) is coming soon and it's likely to displace woodruff suter. Anderson Davies Chacin Burnes Peralta... Guerra Miley Woodruff hanging around... waiting on Nelson Barnes Albers Hader Williams Jeffress Jennings Suter... drake hoover logan lopez houser hanging around... waiting on Knebel. That tightens up quickly. They aren't holding these kids back. I think once the service clock gets settled they go live and our season depends on them.
  16. Yelich is not even at his likely peak yet. Cain is a 5-WAR player at a premium position coming off his healthiest and 2nd most productive season ever, and as a revenue sharing recipient the Brewers only had to give up a 3rd round pick to sign him. In no way do those two acquisitions require you to be a contender right now for justification. Those were the best options for upgrading the team this year. They jumped at a chance to get 5-WAR players without giving up much, as they should. As long as they continue to wait for the right opportunities and pass on traps like Arrieta and Lynn, it will work itself out. The goal is not to have a perfect on-paper roster on opening day and laminate it and hang it on a wall. They're doing nearly everything right. We had no system answer for plus defense OF top of the order hitting. I believe we (stearns group) had zero faith in Brinson all along. I believe that was a value add not a target add. Mejia was a target. I don't expect Ortiz to be in their plans either. He's a chip. We have Williams Houser Burnes Peralta Woodruff. These aren't Cravy Jungemann level guys. These dudes got tools. You can see a path to an end with the pitching staff. You can't see that with LF CF. Brinsons going to take awhile. Phillips isnt top of the order. Only dude we have in the system who is top of the order within 2 years is playing DH. Cain Yelich were absolutely vital. 3-5 we got those guys in bunches. 1-2 we were desert dry. This teams going to click and open up full throttle in the next 2 years as its set up now. Take out yelich cain and thats not the case.
  17. Why pick and choose? If all four were really good starters, would it be a problem to have 4/5 of your rotation set for 5-6 years? 7 man rotations are getting popular? In all seriousness, there's a big difference between doing well at 4-5 and bumping Nelson Anderson Davies. Those 3 are vital until someone acclimates enough to push them out. That's rarely instant. You keep Anderson trade Davies Nelson... start those 4 controlled arms fine. They all need to be 4.0 combined. You already have Ortiz Ponce Brown Kodi and maybe Jankins behind them. You'd add what you got in trade. Behind that... kirby webb murphy lemons herrera etc. I like controlled arms but you can't promote them all if you churn them out the way we're going. Some need to go to a pen ace role. Frankly I'm real excited to go Nelson Anderson Davies Burnes in the playoffs with Peralta Hader Knebel waiting for a good 4-5 innings so they can slam the door. Add Williams Barnes and that's real fun.
  18. Sore quad. Day to day. Cain wants to play today, Counsell hasn't committed yet. He should sit him. Its Suter and Cains a bit cold.
  19. Defense top 5... you lost me. Otherwise I'm on board. 1b 2b RF we still smell. SS kids being a kid.
  20. Bumpity... Diaz Harrison Brinson off to a complete yuck fest. (Diaz is walking atleast) Jordan hasn't pitched yet.
  21. Or the offseason set us up to have those guys join our rotation. I want those guys in there. I don't want Cobb, Arrieta, etc... I want young-controllable arms anchoring out our rotation and we have some serious arms in the mix to do that. I view it as a success that we didn't buy into those guys as rotation fixes. We are in a better place because of it. Still wanted Cobb but I was planning to sell off Davies the 2019 or 2020 offseason. Otherwise what you said. I'm still curious as to what Woodruff Ortiz Santana Grisham or Ray could net.
  22. If you think that was our goal. Servicable stuff was what were were after. A bridge. No bridge level player is going to push us off the hopes we have pinned to Burnes Peralta Hader or even Woodruff. But ones dominating in the pen and the other 3 are avoiding clocks.
  23. Better question Rank who you think profiles best as a starter between: Burnes Hader Peralta Woodruff If Hader isn't in your top 2... not basing on talent... but to the question does he profile as a starter. Then you don't move him at all. Personally I'm on the fence between Hader and Peralta as a starter. Burnes is 1. He's a starter. Woodruff makes me think Nelson all over again but then that's a long wait. You choose Hader or Peralta to be the 5th. The others in the pen. I like Hader where he is. He's not being babied as much this year. On pace for 90 innings. Sure 150-160s better but 90-95 innings around 2 era is pretty filthy.
  24. Nope, Broxton has a decent arm too. The CF was able to easily camp under it and get a running start towards home. You probably aren't testing any OF who gets a running start that shallow. Fair enough. Wanted to hype his defense and didn't see the play on TV.
