Going down 0-2 on inside balls? Not chasing pitches perez would spit at then hitting a FB in his power zone. I disagree... chacin had him a screwed the pooch.
2 runs handed out by the ump. Still chacin has 0-2 on 2 fbs 6 inches inside and throws 2 pitches a foot off the plate. Do you think hes perez? So then 2-2 come back with a FB in the strike zone. Dumb choices.
Well the 7 bb in 14 pa earned the call up... he also has options to burn. Its kinda incredible how much movement has already taken place. Phillips, Williams, Houser, Hoover already.
Really excited to see if Ponce can keep the overlooked talented arms assult on the minors going. Brown Kodi Jankins Herrera even Supak off to a good start.
CC mentioned in spring that you could see burnes and peralta sometime in June. I assumed that was Burnes starting Peralta in the pen. I'm now thinking they jump Woodruff and Suter.
Who's not the same players as last year? Cain who has been quite good. Yelich who has been great in limited action. Its the same team in the field. Cain Yelich were going to be big upgrades but the other 7 are the same. Of that 7, 2 are good defenders in Shaw and Pina. Arcia is too but is making the young dumb mistakes. That leaves 4 spots that were a defensive issue that are still a defensive issue. We had bouts of this last year too... and did just fine. Teams not a great defensive team. You can't upgrade 5 defensive spots in 1 year. A remodel to that level takes years. The pen was an issue last year and the systems pushing that out of existence. Adding/keeping Albers Jennings Jeffress with our home grown talent has tied that all together. The staffs catching up to where we want it due to the system. Dubon and Phillips are meant to upgrade the defense in the next season. Everything talent wise is trending in the right direction but results seems to be happening faster than we expected while fixes are 1 year behind where we imagine.
Well we are 5-5 and have sucked quite badly so I'm not really worried about the season as a whole. We've had 3 good starts total. 2 blown saves in 2 of the 3. Tons of errors. Yelich Knebel missing time. No ones overperforming at the plate but our hurt star and Villar. We don't have a single starter matching last years numbers. There's a long way up to go. It's a crud start. Some savior moments, some abortions but nothing but walk off wins and the pen minus 2 blips is going right.
Mental errors come from dumb players under a players manager. Grinding on dudes doesn't work for 48 games in the nfl let alone a long 162 game season in the mlb these days. You can't have mental mistakes but the vast majority are... Santana Thames Aguilar Villar Perez who arent good defenders and aren't bright players. They are also patchwork rebuild adds and value grabs. Those aren't ideal pieces. Arcia still "young" dumb. Professionals respond to players coaches... a player leader should be stepping up to rattle cages. CC is there to keep the mentality and clubhouse vibe right. On top of that we don't know whats been said but I'd doubt no one is saying something after a 2-5 stretch vs the cubs and cards. Everyone talks about how great the culture is in this clubhouse. That's in part CC. The errors are frustrating as heck but screaming at players daily won't fix the issue. You can only throw bats in the shower a time or two before it loses shock. They like each other.. their accountability to each other shouldn't be something they dont get. The teams still bad defensively because 3 spots are manned by bad defenders that make dumb plays. A 4th is still young. They are grown dudes... you cant coach that out of them at this point. Arcia needs to grow past it. 1b is what it is. Sabtanas not in the plan nor is villar if he doesn't grow up.
I have no issues with the lineup today. Resting shaw vs a LHP happens. You play Perez with a sluggish Pina and Arcia its going to look bad. That's on Pina and Arcia. They both suck right now and specifically Arcia has to show up better.
It could be or we could package Woodruff Ortiz+ for an upper level arm (solid 2 type) and put Peralta as the long man just for giggles. Scary part is behind that Ponce Brown Kodi Jankins Herrera are all taking the steps you want to see and theres a lot of raw talent behind that group. 2019-2020 we'll have a lot of talented arms. Knebel Albers Hader Barnes Williams Jennings Jeffress Peralta still leaves Houser Suter Lopez looking in. Yes my eyes are glued to the farm right now... Erceg is feasting and Stokes, Grisham are looking good early.
