  1. They are not opinions. Maybe you don't follow it, maybe you don't know, but its not opinion simply because you want it to be otherwise. Jerry West is known as Buss' go to mind and decision maker. It imploded when others took over because they wanted the say. Buss knew who made him look brilliant. BB Parcells Jimmy Johnson Cowher/Tomlin built their teams. Kraft Buss Rooney's are prime examples of finding your genius and letting him work. Jones meddles... the stronger the coach the better the results have been which is for a reason. Cuban no one looks at his flailing and thinks he's doing well. He pushed for 1 shot after landing on dirk. LED could do that with giannis. Doesn't make up for the monsterous blunders that cost them better results. No deal should go through mark A. He sets a budget. 5 year budget. That's all he should do.
  2. Tigers former owner who recently passed away. I can't think of an owner more massively involved in FA signings in recent memory. Great owner though. I think it is rather irrelevant though. The names being listed are really extreme examples I think all owners can become involved sometimes. Attanasio didn't seem to be involved in the Cain signing nor trading for Yelich. Deep breath everyone. Thanks. That also brings me back to my point. That you also are making. We're talking 25-30 years here. Brew listed off some absolute Icons in their sports. They are icons because they are the few. Even most of that list leaned on BB/parcells jimmy johnson cowher/tomlin JERRY freaking WEST. Most owners just can't. I'm a huge FO dork especially football and the dysmal embarrassing list of failures of the non icons getting involved is very very long. Mark A doesn't look like hes doing Kohl LED type stuff anymore... but hearing boras talks to him often just fired me up. Its just not his place... even if its minor and mostly harmless. Breathe as in I just did that myself.
  3. Oh, I get why Boras does it. He wants to talk to the decision maker and purse like every sales person everywhere. That's obvious. The owner should talk to his GM and thats that. Owners communication with agents should be yes or no after speaking with the GM. Gm already knows what he can spend. Agent shouldn't get that info.
  4. -Cuban rode Dirk to one more title than Milwaukee has lol -Steinbrenner meddled in everything. -Turner took over as manager of his team at one point. -the Rooney family -Jerry Buss -Jerry Jones -Robert Kraft -Mike Ilitch And I’m sure plenty more examples. There’s definetely not a one size fits all equation to this thing. Again, you don’t like it, that’s fine. But it doesn’t make your statement true. Cuban, great dude. Love how he treats people. Really do. Gets a ton of undeserved flack. Not good at basketball. I believe Steinbrenner under achieved. It could have been better than it was for the yankees. Scary but also true. As the game developed he flat bombed. Turner I'm admittedly unfamiliar. Rooney's no way that's on them. They've hired beautifully and built the league but their football people had the say on the team. Buss I raise you the logo who was his brain. Jones... ok somewhat. Most is hiring brilliant coaches and they really did almost all the work. He gets a part but his coaches made him and the salary cap era destroyed him. Kraft does way less than you think with football operations. Its all bill. Kraft runs the league bill runs the team. Who is ilitch... sorry!
  5. [sarcasm]Must be talking about Herb Kohl... oh... wait...[/sarcasm] Or the current bucks owners. Prime examples. Bills owner is terrible. I spent a year out there and my god he's epic. Both bills and sabers. Browns owner siding with hue jackson after his analytics boys (which i fight in football because they are sooo raw) somehow built a stealth tank sleeping giant for dorsey to polish up. Basically he got hinkied... 76ers architect. Neoptism in sports teams and meddling owners is disastrous. Soo many examples of this. Unless you build a business from the ground up and become a ceo along the way... you hire a genius in the industry smile and collect. Bucks owners business wise are KILLING IT... leave the basketball to the basketball ceo...ahem hire a basketball ceo. Mark A pr business great job... baseball isn't your jam. No fault in that. No one is great at everything. But you landed a genius. You already WON! You did your job! Walk away from the FO. State a number, or cap projection you can afford and walk away. Tons of business pr stuff for you to thrive at... and he does. As far as being an owner... go to spring training, shake hands kiss babies waive your hat give interviews and have your gm report to you... and just listen. Enjoy it, but leave the baseball business alone.
  6. Who? Mark Cuban rode dirk to 1 title and has since destroyed the mavs. You think stienbrenner won because he meddled? There are many examples of non FO destroying franchises. Where are your success stories?
  7. It's his prerogative. He can do what he wants. But owners who meddle consistently lose and waste money. And to plush... i don't disagree but if the owner wants to do it its hard for the gm to pass on it. He's your boss. But he's not at all qualified to be your boss in this odd scenerio known as sports. I like when GMs and their FO are left alone to do whats best. Frankly boras has no idea what we can afford. He wants us to spend. He doesn't care about our top dollar arby increases or future plans. He works for his client.
  8. Im with you on this. Similar or not the impact is fairly equal in reality and projections due to santanas D. If the value of Santana is a little higher than that I'd keep him. I hate that it buries mavrick, but I'm just not comfortable with C 2b and ss. I'm also not comfortable with lhp vs aguilar perez broxton. Braun didnt kill lhp like usual and if Aguilar were to fade we'd be pretty weak vs lhp without santana. Especially with the question marks at c 2b and ss. He can be a useful and high quality bridge to (hopefully) Huira and Lutz at this point. His purpose and ability to anchor the top 5 (especially vs lhp) is more valuable than his asset value.
  9. Crazy how many actually did something. I thought prospects rarely pan put.
  10. They are stupid and get eaten up by agents who actually know their sport. Coaches don't draft... owners dont sign contracts. Gms are gms for a reason. Just because you made enough money to own a team doesn't make you qualified to run it... just like gms aren't qualified to do what made the owner rich. You don't hire a chef then add ingredients into their recipe. Meddling in any way is bad. Let the professional do his job.
  11. Huh? In what way? Sogard had a hot streak that inflated his stats. Villar was downright awful. Correct. He's racking up scooter stats that got scooter released.
  12. Yeah I don't buy the camp of 200ip is great at an average 4.0 era. I mean Id love if Davies or Woodruff could get there but I'm not giving a loaded 4 pack of prospects for it. You know why his babip was higher last year... because his fastball is getting crushed. He's still near 50% fb and it doesn't have downward movement. Hes losing to the launch angle sit on fb new metrics. I can't wrap my head around why mke wants him unless they plan to change his fb to a sinker which he abandoned 3 years ago. (Strange that 2 have been 4 era years huh) His change gets hit. His fb gets smashed. Over the last 2 years his pitch values are identicle to chacin. Chacins worth 7.5 mil aav. But he stays on the mound and ks are sexy. Explain why his 10 extra ip and lower era makes him even equal to Davies. Luck right?
  13. Owners shouldn't talk to agents.
  14. He was worse than sogard villar combined last year. He doesn't look impressive in any way. I'm confused by the love.
  15. You wanted Drury? I'd rather give 2b to dubon and bat him 8th with a white flag tied on his bat. Drury isn't good.
  16. Let's say u add Corbin to that and I'm still probably saying no. Correct, pavin or duplanteir was required for me. Corbin I dont see as being worth more than a diplan kodi or ponce ticket. So and so saying Drury almost came here? What kinda bullet did we dodge there?
  17. But his RF defense wasn't a negative last year.
  18. Let's say u add Corbin to that and I'm still probably saying no. Correct, pavin or duplanteir was required for me. Corbin I dont see as being worth more than a diplan kodi or ponce ticket.
  19. Yeah solak banda for souza who due to defense rivaled Santana's 2017, 1 less year of control, 4 years older. I'm guessing I wouldn't have liked AZs offer for Santana. Even without nyy. Drury Banda weidman... no thank you.
  20. Generally agree with your logic and points. Just feels like a good time to reiterate how massively skewed those numbers because of Thames' April. Lets be fair here: Aguilar had a whole 108 PA vs lhp which he killed and 5 hr due to the low sample size. He had 194 pa vs rhp 11 hr .... why? Thames had 85 PA as a lf or rf with 5 hr... defensively why? 110 pa vs lhp and 6 hr... why? Saying 46 HR is just not being honest. I see 300 ab there that I wouldn't want to see. Especially not over Braun. Thames can still get around the 430 PA he had last year vs rhp. The splits on Aguilar and the fact that he only had 108 vs lhp... added to the fact that Braun typically has crushed lhp (not last year) makes me pretty confident the platoon will improve changing Aguilar for Braun.
  21. And as much as certain people here like scooter, or thought highly of scooter, there were zero offers for him. If anyone saw that coming they'd have tossed mke something for him. Cincy fell into a surprise. It wouldn't stun me if Broxton or Aguilar were cut and had a nice season elsewhere... but it would also surprise me if we got a rogers or 1/2 lind offer for either.
  22. All along I wondered how people thought Broxton Aguilar would get something when scooter got nothing. I get scooter was arby and not free but scraps are scraps. These 2 are scraps.
  23. Yeah I don't even believe the highest upside is Arrieta. That velocity stuff and huge innings load dampens that a lot. I started looking into the big 4 (admittedly not lynn as much) but I was of the opinion of Yu is the guy. More I've looked into it the worse Arrieta looked and the better Cobb looked.
  24. Yeah his swinging strike rate was real bad... last year. That kool aid pitch he was missing well... Outside zone contact up 7% Inside zone contact up 3% Contact as a whole up 7% Swinging strike was down 3.3% As for arsenal... FB was a positive (sinker driven) curve was positive, change for the first time in his career wasn't and its typically a huge positive. Its all due to the thing... a cartoon esque movement pitch that he didn't have back yet.
