  1. Away era 2013 and 2014 2.70 3.14
  2. Except he's finding the control on his ace pitch away from being a TOR.
  3. He couldn't command one of the most devastating pitches in the game. It has a nickname... the thing... the last thing to come back following TJ is your touch on breaking stuff. Proving otherwise... his season without it wasn't a 3/4. He was a 2. Go check starting rotation (stats) on the majors page and for reference look at the numbers dive Mr Allen was kind enough to do. Cobb last year would have come in in the top 45.
  4. They have Chase Anderson at 9-11 and a 4.76. Archer is at 12-11 with a 3.49. Those projections amount to a hill of beans. I think the point is Cobb is just a guy who no one would realistically see him as an anchor to a rotation (4.16 FIP) so a 5 year deal isn't something one would expect. I'd definitely take him as our 3/4 but never at a big money long term deal. Too many arm problems and not enough upside to see him beyond a nice pitcher to have. Well I can see that if you look at last year for what it was but if you look pre TJ and realize he couldn't get the same action from his best pitch that he throws 35% of the time the picture looks a lot more interesting. 3.42...3.61 4.03....3.67 2.76....3.36 2.87....3.23 Yeah that's not a 3. If Chacin couldn't throw his slider he'd be lucky to get wade miley offers. Cobb didn't have his ace pitch last year and was still a 2-3. He stayed alive due to his sinking FB and curve. That's his 2nd and 3rd offering. Cobb gives this team a chance at a big 3 who all can flirt with ace territory. Anderson Nelson Cobb have all shown TOR segments in their career.
  5. Saw it around the net and not posted here Sounds like 3 year 7 mil but highly creative to keep the giants under lux tax. Will be interesting to see the actual numbers here.
  6. If its 70/5... 15 15 15 15 10 I won't grumble too much. 30-34 isn't a death sentence. Low arm wear... plays this year at 30. 5 on him is less risky than 6 on Darvish.
  7. Yeah cobb celebrating no less... I'm really hopeful we land him. If we add him 60/4 or less I'm perfectly ok with rolling out our 6-7-8 of C 2b arcia in some order. I'd prefer a 2b and C that can be trusted a bit more but the rotation and pen looks good so I'll accept the late order question marks. 5 years seems too strong but I'd be ok if the 5th drops the aav south of 15 mil.
  8. Side note: Guerra down 8.1 ip in winter ball. Little worse 0.12 era. Same walks 17... 19 less ks than his 15-16 stint. Bb up .5 per 9 K down 2.2 per 9 That's the problem he had last year. Bb up .9 per 9... k down 1.8 per 9. Only thing he's improved is limiting his hrs in winterball. Walks got to drop... ks have to rise or I don't buy it.
  9. And I know there's a fip crowd that will lose their minds when I say this but Odorizzi has posted a 3.89 era over the last 2 years. 5.4 ip per start 331 ip. That's his last two HORRIBLE years. Guerra has been a 3.64 in the same span, same ip per start but only 185.2 ip. No history prior. Suter again better at a 3.45... 14 starts 5ip per start. No history prior. Gallardo has just been brutal the last 2 so I won't even bother. I get the metrics love. I get people adore their fip fipx... but I look.at these numbers enough to know that some dudes never live up to their fip... bauer is a great example... and others beat it regularly... davies. Odorizzi was low era better Fip the first year... better era than fip the last 3. It's hopes and prayers either way. But 4 years of 3.8 ball is closer to what you need than the huge revert guerra gallardo need. Its closer than the jump in usage you need from suter. Wilkerson was in AA at 28. I'd prefer a guy who is 3 hail marys from 150 ip at 4 era than the full rosary options we are looking at on this roster. To be dead honest... I'd rather have 43 year old RA Dickey with suter and wilkerson as a long man then trust Guerra Gallardo Suter Wilkerson Miley starting. Ps: Don't scoff... thru 5 ip... 31 starts...153 ip 3.41 era....LAST YEAR! Old man/suter piggy back would be sooo fun! Minds would melt. 8 man pen makes it possible. Come on dream with me.
  10. Curiosity... who is your 6th? Not sure I include arcia 2b or C in the scary good category.
  11. Not hung up on him. I had garcia higher up the list. I'm hung up on people going... suter can do it. No proof. Wilkerson who is treated like the new jungemann? Gallardo can guerra can... again light a candle and say a prayer. I want a solid arm that sets people in their proper roles if we don't add a true add like cobb. Saying all these broken toys can do it while spitting on odorizzi who's actually done it is my irritation.
  12. And I'm saying at no point would I put him near the top of the lineup unless you count 9th near the top. I don't care if 2016 shows up for a week or a month or longer... he's made it so that expectations should be, it won't last. You don't pull a proven batter out of the leadoff spot to try a streaky dude there again. Bat him 9th. Bat him 6th. If the AS shows back up he can be valuable there too. Im not taking a professional hitters abs away to give him more. My biggest wish for the offseason is that we'd never kill our offense with junk at 1-2 again. Cain Yelich done.. villar arcia couldn't do enough to make me flinch.
  13. And he can prove it at 6th... 1 month 2 months 3 months it could appear and vanish at any time. Cain is proven. Broxton and villar are proven to be streaky. If villar gets hot he can drive in runs at 6th and effect the D to get pina arcia rbis.
  14. Guerra threw 14 starts at 4.6 ip 5.2 era last year. Odorizzi was at a lowly 5.1 ip for 28 starts. But you cant point at Guerra Gallardo Miley Wilkerson Suter and say THAT'S BETTER! If 1 even is, which and when do you expect to know? Im not comfortable throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks. This team wins the division last year with 1 more Garza... instead willy guerra espino and blazek. I want to see cobb added and this be moot.
  15. Suter averaged 5.0 ip per start abd hurt his shoulder. He made 14 starts. Oh guerra again... last I saw his numbers his Ks are still gone. It won't play. If he's not getting ks he's not right.
  16. Odorizzi averages 5.4 ip per start in his last 2 years. Hard to do that not going 5. Fact is without an add we are going into the first 2-3 months with our 5 being an in case of emergency arm. That's how you miss the postseason. Suter has a clear role as a very good long man. His numbers in his first 3 innings are gorgeous. People talk about adding an arm late season... how about not having to make up for a limping 5 for the first half.
  17. Suter/Wilkerson/Guerra combined are about 25% of what Odorizzi costs. That's a #5 and two filler arms. Gallardo pushes it to a bit over 50%, but if he emerges as a veteran middle/long relief option (or even a 7th/8th inning option), he's worth every penny. And how many games do we lose sorting through which of these guys can pitch this year or how beat up do we leave the pen with woodruff and suter not working late into games. I like suter as a long man, i like him in general, but you act like these guys can actually start or even pitch.
  18. The other point... look at lucroys last few. 28 was great 29 fell off a cliff 30 was AS level 31 off a cliff Not sure how you lose it twice in 3 years with a monster year inbetween. I'd assume he tops last years marks. 1 year deal only but I'd buy low here.
  19. I'm not a nostalgia guy... I'm pretty happy to drop the hot potato before it goes cold. Even too soon at times. Luc isnt 2 years ago luc. But lets face it... vogt sucked and hopefully pina didn't just have a villar 1 off at the plate. I've consistently said pina starts. But the market is so low on filler guys that I feel luc would be a value and quality insurance at this point. You really wouldn't pay 3 mil more to have luc than vogt? I want cobb but after that if they want to stick with villar sogard I'd like to improve catcher a bit and cutting vogt gallardo to open 5 of the 6 or 7 luc would command is a no brainer to me. If there are better younger cheaper options than luc Im all ears but that doesnt appear to be vogt or bandy.
  20. There will be no point at which I'd trust villar to be good villar or even stay good villar in the 2018 season. He can fight his way up to 6th. If he bats in the top 5 there better be a rest day or an injury.
  21. They probably still would rather go younger than Villar. If his value is truly that low, they should just sit and hold unless they’ve got a Rays-esque salary cutting request. Player options on Harrison are nice but I think in the current market walker would be cheaper. I see no need to give up something for him... and blocking villar now kills any shot at him reclaiming value. He frustrated me last year too but I dont hate him batting 7th or 9th.
  22. I hope Archer looks like crap... We need to keep Burnes and Peralta. Sign Cobb, keep Santana and see what happens. Anderson Cobb Davies Chacin Woodruff Cain Yelich Braun Shaw Santana Pina Arcia Villar Fangraphs numbers on pitch value show some serious concern that Archer moving on from a sinking FB doesn't play in this era. He's nearly 50% fb (only has 3 pitches) and people are sitting on it. If he doesn't change his fb he's a 4.0 guy. Innings hog flashy 4.0 era guy. Hasn't thrown the sinking fb in 3 years. Ill be much happier with an addition of cobb and his multiple pitches that hinder lift. Also can we bat villar 9th. Him infront of a pitcher screams high Ks. Ps: do not mention he who shall not be named. Don't need people getting jealous.
  23. I just hope he bats. Bartolo batting is a saving grace of no nl dh. As far as being hot on cobb still... hes the 1 i want and I'm goid there. We also are wanting to see archer pitch this spring before upping our offer on him? I sure hope we don't pay anything close to whats rumored for Archer.
  24. 1 its the first bad one 2 cringeworthy juxtaposition
  25. Ha!... no to the devil's advocate hoop..
