  1. I also feel Barnes needs to be on this list. Very strong start in 2016. Brilliant start to 2017. April may august was fantastic. June july sept makes you wonder if he was over used.
  2. I'm not aware but we have less talented options on the 40 man. You protect young lefties that are harnessing their control. It's admittedly a big year for him. Diplan Drake gallardo guerra webb wilkerson bandy/vogt Jeffress sogard broxton Thats 10 spots. By next year jimmy burnes are back/up. Rotation at 6 deep without gallardo guerra wilkerson. Diplan on the bubble big year for him, webb is depth, drake is toast. 1 of the 2 catchers makes 7 spots we can drop. Hurts AAA depth but keeps talent. Sogard expires with dubon in the wings. Jeffress can be opted out and is battling barnes williams houser lopez for his spot. Broxton will be out of options and barring trades doesn't fit. We got room for kodi.
  3. Well even with nelson we currently dont have enough to replace davies. Anderson Nelson Davies Burnes Woodruff. Im not dealing out 3 years of control on Davies because that makes chacin a bridge to who? If we added cobb 4 years then the numbers are in our favor to move arms as soon as Nelson and/or Burnes are ready. Wonder if Boras lets Davies sign a team friendly anything.
  4. Kodi still has 22-23-24 to keep building as a starter before the discussion should even be approached. He improved dramatically in the repeat of A+. I don't doubt he's a loogy... I think that's his future. It's nowhere close to pull the plug time on him yet. We already have the 4 listed here, Derby, maybe Kirby, Dev and plenty more who are very unlikely to start, but have good pen stuff. I'm kerping everyone a starter as long as I possibly can. We are far deeper at near mlb ready pen pieces than near mlb ready starters.
  5. Depends how fast he starts at AA. He could get to AAA in 2 months and put up broxton stuff with +obp. The question is whether or not evaluators but into the size or if they consider it a bloom or a cs inflation.
  6. I have no faith in Lopez. Houser, I'd assume is still 3rd in the pecking order. Williams is 1st and I'm interested to watch barnes jeffress to see if they open the door for Peralta. I don't think he jumps in as a typical relief guy but I think he will be the most impactful from the jump. Albers Barnes Jeffress have to watch their back. Theres 3 who could take their job in the next calendar year. It's a very deep system of pen arms. Will be interesting to see how we shuffle the pen or who we trade in the attempt to give these guys a shot to succeed and generate trade value. Knebel Hader I'd struggle with trading but knebel likely only has 2 cheap years left. Barnes has 3-4. Jeffress Albers are where this shakes up because you can't ignore these young non starter arms and the trade value upside of another thorny is too great. I want to turn and burn BP arms. 1 of these 4 needs to start the year in mke. The potential for barnes and williams to step up and push out albers needs to get sorted out soon. If Barnes Williams look strong Id have no issue flipping albers at the deadline to an AL team for a ticket and bring the next man up. Jeffress is not tradable.
  7. 3 games in including a SS and I've seen villar leading off twice... he's doing well and my fandom is on suicide watch. Don't get me wrong, I want him to succeed badly but you can not agrue he's one of our best 5 hitters no matter how you stack this lineup. The astros lead off Springer who stole 35 bases in 58 attempts in 4 years. He bats there for his 360 obp. We signed Cain to do that! Stop driving me bonkers by batting our 6th or 7th best (at best) stick 1st. Just stop!
  8. Stokes when he gets there he could have some silly high numbers. I like him but if he gets highly rated I'm selling.
  9. You know it's exciting a heck to hear CC say Burnes Peralta could be up as soon as june. 8 man pen? Piggy back woodruff suter burnes peralta? Try to get 8 ip and 7 ip per "start?" Anderson Davies Chacin 4 Woodruff/7 suter 5ip-3ip 5 Burnes/8 peralta 4ip-3ip Knebel Hader Albers Logan Barnes Jeffress Having an extra pen arm and having Woodruff 150 ip pace Suter 90 ip pace Burnes 120 ip pace Peralta 90ip pace 450 ip instead of like 300-350 from 4-5... 100 ip makes up for not having a long by a bunch. Could start off 4 woodruff 5 guerra or wilkerson/suter with gallardo treated like a traditional long. Lots of creative ways to handle this with an 8 man pen.
  10. Wouldn't have been the last 2 years. You want to put 5 years into a guy who had 2 great years by age 31? The last 2 years one pitcher has 5.3 war one has 5.2... Ones arrieta The other is Davies That's WS material alright.
  11. Yeah and when Verlander got his 6/162 he had piled up 46 war... not 21 Verlander has prestige. Arrieta has 4 years. Verlander 7 4+ war years with an 8 7 and 5. Arrieta 2 4+ war years with an 8 and a 5. Prestige... wrong client.
  12. Prestige? What exactly is that? Oh god I found the article. What a load of garbage. It's not about how good he is... its about how good he makes you feel you are. Is that the hosmer bs too? That's literally saying... no you arent paying this much for the player... you are paying for the name. He's arrieta. You could tell me stanton or harper or trout or kershaw or bum have that casual fan excitement meter going. But Jake Arrieta... Jake freaking Arrieta. I don't buy the "well the cubs bailed on him so that should tell you something" logic... but if his leadership, club house moxy, playoff ilk and prestige was soo out of this world and important... then why in the world did the cubs let their north star leave? Clearly his prestige isn't seen as a big loss by the team that just had him. Thus it's not a big add for the teams who don't have him and isn't worth a dime. Do not be the moron who overpays this guy mke.
  13. Arrietas FB is one of the few that declined last year with the new measurement. It declined dramatically. His stuff is a lot of fb and cutter.
  14. Speaking of 2b... I know he's seen as 4A but are we going to give orf a shot this year. Its seems strange to see his work (in cs i know) and assume sogard villar and perez are better.
  15. Yeah LF DH is awfully crowded in the system. Braun Yelich Santana Grisham hopefully not but possibly Hiura.
  16. He still has to play 2nd. Hitting wasn't anyones chief concern.
  17. 1st ab franklin runners corners 1 down...gidp... not that it's changed anything but I feel the need to say I'm still done with him. Bases loaded... 2 out K. DONE!
  18. For those of us without access to the game feed this is quite the cliffhanger... Sorry 4 runs in under 1ip
  19. Perrin... bummer. Wanted to see a good spring from him.
  20. 2017 10th in runs scored. 5th in runs allowed. Someone posted on a thread that we had 36 starts worth of innings that were pitched by guys over 6 era. Pens better. Chacins better than Garza. Not having nelson is a downgrade but unless you replace him with a trainwreck its not as big of a downgrade as the upgrade we could see from the bottom. 1 arm is very needed to make the depth stable. 10th in runs. Well adding a 300/360 table setter and a 290/360 stud should help that. I dont think Braun/Thames Santana Shaw were the problem. At our best we had walker broxton and phillips as the 2b and CF and 4th OF. 2b is worse but not batting lead off (hopefully) but CF is cain and 4th OF is Braun? #1 hr, #12 in hits, #11 in avg, #10 in obp Cain alone should help a lot there. Bumps the team up to 5th in hits by himself v broxton and friends.
  21. That was over three months ago and I'm sure the Cubs offer is not on the table anymore. Holland was offered the same deal Davis got from Colorado and I'd be shocked if Holland can get anywhere close to that now. Cobb may have to settle for a smaller deal with an opt-out or just overall less money. I actually think he will get under the 15M/year but 4 years. Something like 4 year / 56 Million with an opt-out after 2 years. Chatwoods not big 4 correct? I don't think the cubs lowballing him early and moving on to a 2nd guy they could actually afford hurts his market 1 bit. Holland got greedy, 17 mil per 3 years was gigantic for a reliever. 14 aav for cobb was a low ball offer.
  22. Before I see another bad cobb offer something to point out. Before Chatwood chicago offered him 42/3. 45/3 isnt cutting it. I think if you stay 3 you can expect 54/3. 60/4 seems dead on if not a touch low. I think Walker still gets close to 16/2. If we don't add cobb in the 60/4 range and dont add walker at something sub 10 and another team does I'll be ticked. Arm but no walker good. No arm but get walker ok. Neither, their offers better be expensive.
  23. 4 man bench could be a thread of its own. Make this roster fit a 4 man bench on offense. If Brauns "I'm not playing 1st often" comment is legit? Yikes. Whats the 4-5 starters 7-8 pen makeup. Piggyback stuff on the way? Suter wilkerson split squad day 1... welcome back baseball? Hey it could be Gallardo miley so I'll shut up. 12 position players: Yelich, Cain, Braun, Shaw, Arcia, Sogard, Thames, Pina, Perez, Vogt, Phillips. Last spot to either Santana if he's not traded or Aguilar. Broxton gets optioned but comes up when Phillips needs some regular ABs. They'll basically share a spot with one staying sharp in AAA. As said, no villar. Sogard Perez can't start at 2b and back up ss and 3b. Switch phillips and villar and if you keep santana the only deoth at 1b is perez again or braun. 12 man with this group is rough. Side note... villar broxton leading off... oh joy!
  24. Burnes... zero unless they sign no one else. If they add no other pitchers I'd still lean zero but I'd give him a 20% shot at being called up as soon as it doesn't screw up his arby years. Wade miley... 50/50 as of now. Add an arm and I think its zero. I don't see anyone else on this list unless barnes looks dreadful or injuries arise. Hoping Perrin shows well. Feel like he'll never get a shot here though.
  25. Well thats a buzz kill. We have a lot of LFers. Yelich Braun Santana Grisham, adding Hiura there would be a big shame. Come on NL DH?
