  1. They have 10 games in the next 8 days with four effective starting pitchers, maybe he’s trying to coax an extra inning from his ace to lighten the load the bullpen is going to have to bear.
  2. Who cares? Ungodly amounts of money and youth are almost indisputably a bad mix. Most professional ball players probably do heinous things to other humans it’s just whether it gets out in the media or not. That he ran around on his wife isn’t unique. That he’s wealthy enough to make an abrupt clean break, is cowardly and wrong, but hey he’s got the resources to do it .
  3. Therein lies the rub. Where do you get improvement the majority of position players they have will likely return n 2023.
  4. Yeah, he yelled at it because it didn’t go over the fence.
  5. To your point where does the improvement come for this “average” team? We all know they’re not going to sign a 20 million dollar a year free agent. They can’t break up the big three in a trade and not have their rotation take a huge step back. Unfortunately, they probably just run it back next year with mostly the same players and hope for better luck.
  6. Regrettably against the D’Backs #1; 3 runs is probably enough
  7. In 2022, with few exceptions, Pujols has got all his homers off below average pitchers (See below). That he's near 700 speaks more to the scarcity of quality pitching in modern era MLB, than Pujols being a feared slugger at 42 (?) years old, or really the last 5-6 years or so. Drew Lynch KCR 4.70era Ashby (2) MIL 4.59era Josh VanMeter PIT (non-pitcher) Chris Sanchez PHI 5.34era Mitch White LAD 4.67era Trevor Richards TOR 4.53era Austin Gomber (2) COL 5.59era Bumgarner ARI (2) 4.87era Ross Detweiler CIN 4.44era (since been released) Taylor Rogers MIL 4.27era Drew Smyly CHC 3.24era Chase DeJong PIT 1.45era Moreover, Willie Mays hit 49 of his 660 Homeruns off Hall of Fame Pitchers (Spahn, Drysdale, Koufax. Fergie Jenkins, Bob Gibson, Phil Niekro, Jim Bunning and Steve Carlton). Pujols has but 13 of his 694 homeruns off Hall of Famers or likely Hall of Famers (Randy Johnson, Smoltz, Maddux, Grienke, Sabathia). Not to mention the playing fields in some of today's stadiums are geared for the long ball as opposed to Forbes Field etc. from the old days.
  8. Yeah, there’s not much entertainment in watching a game where Milwaukee gets 9 baserunners the entire game against a team that’s not trying to compete, and then 40% of the Brewer outs are via the strike out. Night after night; It’s boring!
  9. At a bargain rate of 8 million dollars, They should pick that option up and they can swap him off later.
  10. Never forget...money talks...always. That image alone has $500 worth of messages which probably took some seasonal worker making $15 an hour, 5 minutes to type in. Righteous bucks.
  11. Does it really matter what happened in May and July they were in first place the entire time? The facts are since mid August, Keston Hiura has 38 plate appearances at DH, McCutchen has 34. But wait there's more.... of McCutchen's 34 PAs as the DH, 19 of those PAs were in games where Hiura was also in the line up at a different position. Therefore since mid-August, Hiura has been in there as DH most of the time. Moreover, of the 15 PAs McCutchen has had at DH (without Hiura in the lineup) since mid-August, McCutchen was in there against Julio Urias (lefty), Andrew Haney (lefty), Drew Smyly (lefty). The reality is, McCutchen is rarely the DH anymore against RHP with Hiura also on the bench. I'm sure this will be dismissed as anecdotal evidence. However, as long as Hiura continues to homer at a hall of fame pace, he probably will be in there in some capacity the vast majority of the time.
  12. I mean, it’s not June. He’s been in there most games for a couple weeks now. He’s homering at a historic pace, until it dries up he probably will continue to be in there most days.
  13. Doing his best K-Rod impression, putting runners on base.
  14. They’re hitting was always going to be crappy. The story of the season will be their vaunted pitching staff slipping into mediocrity, which is why they suck.
  15. The expectations are much higher in 2022 than ‘14 or ‘17. Those were teams that were expected to be crappy and put up a respectable showing. The ‘22 Brewers were expected to compete and they’re in last place amongst the NL teams trying to win.
  16. This year sure hasn’t been much fun to watch. If the game isn’t boring it’s super frustrating watching them drop game to teams not even trying to compete.
  17. Kimbrel, Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen are making $16 million this year. Ryan Pressly signed a 2yr/30 million dollar extension. $15-$16 million AAV seems the going rate for veteran closers, with Edwin Diaz coming along to reset the market. Does 20 bad innings result in Hader asking for less than $16 million next year, I doubt it. Where the rubber meets the road is whether San Diego has the stomach to give him a raise. Given they have nowhere to pitch him right now, it will be hard to get himself "right" pitching as the mop-up reliever.
  18. The new league year starts the day after the World Series, December 2nd is the last day to tender a player a contract. So they could trade him if they wanted to without committing any money to him. It's an interesting thought, two months ago he was the best relief pitcher in baseball, will 20 or so rough innings be enough to scare teams away? Certainly if the Padres crash and miss the postseason, he likely will be gone from San Diego one way or another.
  19. If he doesn’t retire; I hope they offer Rosenthal an incentive laden NRI for ‘23. He’s always been a great relief pitcher.
  20. If Trevor Rosenthal has gotten over 14 million dollars to not pitch the last two years, even if San Diego did non-tender him (they’d trade him first), Hader is still going on to shoot the moon in arbitration regardless of one bad year.
  21. He got his bi-weekly Jack last night!!!
  22. A historically bad season. It’s been 85 years since the Cubs won a game and having just one hit.
  23. Right. Taking 3 out of the final 4 from the Cards would put Milwaukee 4 GB. Next, the Brewers have 2 extra games remaining than St. Louis. Theoretically if the Brewers won them both it would put them 3 GB. Thus, out playing St. Louis by three games over the final 30 seems doable. No less importantly taking 3 of the final 4 against the Cardinals would give the Brewers the season series (10-9) and the tie break for the Division.
