    Getting DFA’d by the 2nd worst team in the AL (and being Hiura’s 2nd DFA), then reporting to their AAA club, to me suggests Hiura might be running out of the opportunities where he’s more than an organizational soldier

    Fischer family purchased the A’s for 180 million dollars. The Orioles were just sold for 1.7 billion dollars. If you own an MLB team why on Earth would you ever sell it when the prices keep going up and up and up and team success is largely irrelevant in franchise value. That’s why Fischer doesn’t care an iota what the product is on the field. This is straight financial situation. Better facilities = improved franchise value. Which is why he does what he does, so he can find some municipality full of tax payers dumb enough to use their dollars to further increase the equity he has in his baseball club.

    Pitchers in AAA might be “on the cusp of major leagues” because of the structure of the minor-league system. But it’s not like AAA is full of tomorrow’s big league pitching stars. It’s mostly pitchers who weren’t good enough to stick in the major leagues or haven’t knocked anybody socks off yet in their professional career

    It really shouldn’t be a surprise. For 20+ years the Cardinals had HOF players and other terrific ball players in their line up every year. Now, their noteworthy players are all old and the the youngsters they had hoped for Tyler O’Neill, Dylan Carlson, Hicks, Hudson weren’t good enough; and their next crop of young bucks haven’t been good either: Gorman, Walker and Liberatore. Not having unlimited payroll it is the gamble they took giving out the huge guarantees to land Goldschmidt and Arenado in the first place, and their GM seemingly made it worse handing out guarantees to Matz, Mikolas, Contreras, in an effort to keep the ship afloat

    Yeah, people crucified Boras for not getting more for Bellinger (and others), but as usual Boras has the last laugh. It is Hoyer who has the egg on his face being into the luxury tax and owing Bellinger (.275/.333/.426) 58 million dollars for the next 2 seasons

    They actually passed him through waivers hoping someone would claim the remainder of his 9 million dollar salary. Today after having gone unclaimed they flat out released him

    It could also be softening up the fans for when they place a bunch of players on waivers to try to get under the threshold: Wisdom, Bote, maybe even Bellinger

    Kind of interesting that the “can’t miss” type prospects in the first round all mostly missed and the draftees who became real players were all much less heralded.

    Riley Pint the #4 overall draft pick in 2016 was just outrighted to the minors by Colorado. Corey Ray at #5 is already out of baseball. Nick Senzel at #2 is hanging on by a thread. Mickey Moniak #1 is close to a zero war player, Ian Anderson #3 is in the minor leagues with Atlanta. Brutal draft class. The best player in the first round has been Will Smith who was the 32nd pick

    The Dodgers have 3 players with OBP over .380 and a Slugging over .490. The Brewers have one such player and it’s looking like he will end up having missed the majority of the games this year with injuries. That’s the difference in their offenses.

    Elias Diaz was just placed on outright waivers by Colorado. Probably a good bench mark for Haase. If Diaz goes unclaimed, the Brewers wouldn’t risk much DFA’ing Haase to get more roster flexibility in September

    If Montas can get through 5 innings and give up just the 3 runs, he delivered what the Brewers would have wanted

    How does he not know where the ball is? He initially slid into 2nd base on a fly ball. Player not paying attention cost them a potential big inning

    O’Driscoll is perhaps the worst official scorer and E5 and FC on the ball Ortiz his and an E6 earlier

    Not really, it’s not like there were other players available for the same money they passed on to get Montas. when you’re only willing to trade crap, what do you think you’re gonna get?

    Junis has a 7.36 era for the Reds and Wiemer was called up and subsequently demoted. If anything it’s reallocating a bunch of spare parts that won’t amount to anything with either team.

    Right, but you have to hear what he’s saying. He has 2 veteran SP who have stayed healthy all year. He has no SPs averaging six innings a start. His star hitter and star reliever have missed most the season with injuries and the roster has been a MASH unit all season. It sounds like the description of a last place club, yet coming down the stretch they’ve got a healthy lead in their division.
