    I guess it’s what happens when you don’t have many starting pitchers who go beyond 5 innings. The bullpen starts getting fatigued. Milner on pace for 74 appearances; Payamps pitching more than ever in his career has an era close to 5.00 since May 1st

    Maybe the mojo is spent and he’s back to being the guy who was on waivers 5 times and sold once before being traded to Milwaukee.

    I don’t know. Bauers has the better power profile, he plays corner OF, 1B, can steal a base. Certainly he has warts with the high strike out rate, but a good depth piece and Hoskins is likely to see the bulk of starts at 1B anyway

    Or he’s a 1B/DH on a team where he’s totally blocked this year. It’s too bad Bauers is under team control for 2025, absent a 2nd half offensive tear Hoskins probably isn’t opting out either. So Black remains blocked or could be trade material in the right deal.

    Maybe the Brewers should put a call in to Greinke. He’s had more recent major league success than Keuchel. In sincerity the Brewers coaching staff has earned the benefit of the doubt; they must feel they can get Keuchel to a place where he can go through the opposing batting order twice and keep the Brewers in the game. That’s better than Rodriguez so it’s worth a shot.

    Fiers threw two no hitters and hung around the majors for a decade. I would take that from any current Brewers starter in a heartbeat.

    I guess I would say that PCA probably was a product of the prospect hype machines more than anything else. The Cubs got him for the rental of Javy Baez. Look at the players the Brewers have traded when they’ve bought rentals and it’s probably a truer sense of what PCA was, and the expectations were likely too grand to begin with.

    The internet: helping weirdos find one another for decades now. As a contract killing I don’t think it could have gone any worse. 1. She didn’t use a fake name apparently or have a phony passport because they know when she arrived and left the UK. 2. Rented a car which requires an ID which gets scanned and a credit card, plus the rental office almost assuredly has security cameras filming everyone who comes in. 3.) That the gun jammed when it was first attempted to be shot means the person didn’t bother to check it before pulling the trigger (not to mention one would assume a contract killer would use their own reliable weapons to avoid that very scenario). 4.) Went to a McDonald’s nearby after failing to complete the killing. Again, she would absolutely be filmed which would place her nearby the scene at the time in question. Finally she shipped guns to Europe and apparently didn’t bother to use a fake name or proxy either. Really it sounds like a couple of idiots got swindled out of paying for a free trip to the UK and the American was so dumb to commit a half dozen felonies and not even use a fake name

    How many homers does Hoskins have to hit to make up for the fact he’s just some big lumbering dude with cement for feet?

    Let’s not kid ourselves. Even pre-surgery Ashby’s walks, Hits and homers allowed per 9 would put him in back of the rotation/swingman territory. Great stuff not so great command. The deck is now stacked against him. Velocity isn’t back to what it was pre-injury and his not so great pre-surgery command has also slipped. Like I said, I’m sure the contract will get him another chance with Milwaukee especially with an option year remaining, but even a small market team will simply eat the contract when he’s out of options; if he cannot improve upon his 8+ era and 1:1 BB:K ratio in the minor leagues

    After this season, his average annual value is $6 million. It is already a pre-arbitration extension that blew up in the Brewers’ face. I’m sure he’ll get more chances but when he’s out of options and if he still has a ERA over 6 in AAA; it’s not a difficult choice to DFA him.

    Ashby pitched about 131 innings before tearing his labrum. He had mediocre stats with an ERA+ of 91 and a FIP of 3.95. We’ll never know what his true potential was. Based on other pitchers who tore their throwing arm labrum, the odds suggest he’ll ever be 100% of what he was before the injury. That the Brewers are signing pitchers off the street, and promoting pitchers from AA to the majors, while Ashby is “healthy” in AAA tells us all we need to know about what they think of him right now post injury. Likely, without significant improvement he gets DFA’d once he is out of options.

    He’s been good but for the long ball. His recent success is based on keeping the ball I n the park. If he can keep that up, he’ll be a nice back of the rotation starter.

    Of course, the smart money says he’s not pitching in 2024. Then again human beings all heal and grow at different rates . If Woodruff was medically cleared to pitch and had time to rehab to build up strength and stamina in the minor leagues you might see him pitch a few innings for the Brewers in 2024. Both sides would probably be giddy to have him go into the offseason healthy

    The Brewers should probably shop for a rental right fielder. Then if/when Garrett Mitchell ever gets healthy he could be in a Platoon with Perkins in CF, they could ship Frelick out to the minor leagues where he belongs and Chourio continues to get seasoning as an 5th outfielder/pinch hitter/pinch runner etc

    Most players comment in the media they’d “love to stay….” where they are currently playing but leave out the more important part “…but only if they pay me what I want”. Adames is no different; he absolutely is aware what Swanson is guaranteed, Corey Seager. Carlos Correra etc. Further does anyone truly believe that in Adames’ own mind he sees himself as less of a player than those three? Look at the Brewers history since Attanasio bought the team, when the talent isn’t there to compete he cuts the payroll down to the bone. It’s exactly what he means when he talks about payroll flexibility: the ability to add or cut payroll based on circumstances. With Yelich already under contract long term the Brewers are not going to have multiple mega contracts hindering their flexibility. Adames will be happy to file for free agency, and the Brewers will be happy to have him decline their QO and pick up a draft pick.

    Best player in a dark era for the franchise. When he first came over to Milwaukee he played centerfield then quietly put up a 20/20 season in his first full season with the Brewers. In 1999 he started in the All Star game, participated in the homerun derby and had 27 homers with a .977 OPS through 89 games before a Jose Rosado fastball broke his hand costing him 31 games then finishing with 33 homers and a .963 OPS It always sort of bothered me that Burnitz actually signed an extension with the Brewers in March of ‘01 only to have the team immediately cut payroll that offseason trading Burnitz away in a salary dump before the extension even kicked in.

    Ha! He was a 4.8 bWAR and won the gold glove at SS last year. Sure, he’s having a down year at the plate but for his career he’s Wily Adames with slightly less power. Fringe major leaguer indeed

    In defense of their GM, he has stockpiled their minor league system, his oldest regular is Swanson at 30. (Tauchman 33 has played his way from a bench bat to a regular) Next, other than Bellinger he doesn’t have any bad contracts at the major a league level (how the worm has turned there, Boras got 90 million for an oft injured slightly above average CFer). Now where playing .500 probably gets you in the postseason the Cubs are good enough to shoot for the post season. Happ, Hoerner, and Swanson are all having the worst seasons of their career none are “old” for major leaguers so they should all be expected to progress towards their career norms over the remaining 90 games. Besides their ice cold trio the Cubs bullpen is too leaky Add a couple of bullpen arms, perhaps a catcher or corner infielder and a 2nd half bounce back from the aforementioned 3 hitters and the Cubs should be playing meaningful games into late September.

    I’m sure the 8 million dollars a year Counsell is getting has him sleeping well at night. The Cubs GM is pretty conservative, so I doubt they would make a major move giving up blue chip prospects to fight for the 2nd wild card if they can continue to tread water until the end of July

    I dunno, when he’s got 2 walks, a steal, scored from second on a throwing error, Tripled, homered, and scored 3 of their 4 runs i was okay with walking him.

    There’s light rail that drops off at the stadium too, so depending where you stay you may not have to drive and park.

    He’s using it because it was free premium gear. As a non 40 man roster minor leaguer I bet they don’t buy premium storage gear for the players. Hiura has probably arrived at his last chance in pro-ball having signed another minor league deal with the Angels who have holes in their roster at 2B and 1B

    It is interesting the things people recall. I remember that in ‘22 Wong’s production against LHP cratered to such an extent he was a platoon player in year 2 of his contract. You may very well be right, they picked up his club option so they could trade him but they also included cash to Seattle for Winker who gave the Brewers 0. Seems they would’ve been ahead just to let him walk. It’s interesting to me that both trades and free agency is risky, but the Brewers rarely get burned in a trade yet their free agent signings have all been underwhelming to flops.

    I figured you’d say that. Theres a metric to make any point one wants to make. Brewers are spending 28.5 million this year on Hoskins, Sanchez and Miley. Hoskins hits homeruns is league average at getting on base but can’t run and is below average in everything else. Sanchez hits homeruns and is below average everywhere else. Miley wasnt healthy when camp opened. Poor production for their 28.5 million dollars any way you cut it.
