  1. I wonder if this is Stearns posturing to get the Orioles to take the deal quickly. Having Machado for 15 more games could be the difference between the Brewers winning the division by 1 game or falling short by 1 game.
  2. I don’t see Stearns trading away any of the top 3 prospects in a deal for Machado either. I think he would be much more inclined to swap in someone like Luis Ortiz or Zack Brown for Burnes and add a third piece such as Trey Stokes Jr. to get it done.
  3. Jon Morosi was just on MLB Central and believes the Brewers will end up acquiring Machado in exchange for RHP Corbin Burnes and OF Keon Broxton when it is all said and done.
  4. Very good point. That is a big hurdle for the Dodgers that could keep them out of the running for Machado.
  5. This is factually incorrect. Neither team would trade these players without adding those names much less both of them. I feel that there is plenty of value that could be given in each trade without including those 3. If the Orioles are indeed looking for starting pitching close to the MLB level and/or prospects on the left side of the infield, I think a deal could get done with the Brewers acquiring Machado in exchange for: 1. RHP Brandon Woodruff 2. RHP Luis Ortiz or RHP Zack Brown 3. 3B Lucas Erceg That would check every box that the Orioles are looking for. Merrifield is a big asset that will require good prospects, but not the top prospects from a team either. I feel that if the Brewers wanted Merrifield, he could be had in exchange for: 1. RHP Luis Ortiz or RHP Zack Brown (whichever isn’t included in the Machado trade) 2. OF Brett Phillips 3. OF Tristen Lutz or OF Corey Ray There are other players/prospects that could draw interest from the Orioles or Royals such as OF Domingo Santana, LHP Quintin Torres-Costa, 1B Jake Gatewood, OF Troy Stokes Jr., or C Jacob Nottingham that could be swapped in for a different prospect. The Brewers have plenty of intriguing prospects that could be included in these trades depending on the team’s preference. The Brewers have quite a few players from that list that are rule 5 eligible after this season and will need to be protected or risk being lost for nothing anyway. They could capitalize on these types of moves by improving the MLB roster with prospects that are blocked from making it to the MLB in Milwaukee and/or losing them in the rule 5 draft anyway because of having an excess of highly skilled players left unprotected.
  6. If the Brewers could somehow get Machado AND Merrifield, this lineup would be absolutely lethal. CF Cain RF Yelich 1B Aguilar SS Machado 3B Shaw 2B Merrifield LF Braun C Pina P It is highly unlikely that this would happen, but a lineup like that would be nasty. An offense that potent with the shut down arms we have in the bullpen would make this Brewers team a legit World Series contender! They could field this team all while keeping Hiura, Burnes, and Peralta out of the trades altogether.
  7. Definitely like the signing. It will be nice having a center that can shoot the three and create more space for Giannis, as well as more lanes for drive and kick opportunities from Middleton, Bledsoe, and Brogdon. It is going to be an exciting season!
  8. Trade Prediction: Brewers acquire SS Manny Machado from the Orioles in exchange for RHP Brandon Woodruff, RHP Luis Ortiz, and 3B Lucas Erceg. I could also see OF Domingo Santana replacing one of Woodruff or Ortiz if the Orioles have a preference in one pitcher over the other and wanting Santana included.
  9. The Brewers scored 3 runs yesterday and hit 3 home runs in the game. All 3 of the players that hit a home run yesterday (Shaw, Miller, and Orf) are all not in the starting lineup. I understand playing matchups, but Counsell makes some interesting decisions sometimes.
  10. Brandon Jennings’ $2.2 million contract guarantee date has been moved to August 1st from July 1st. Jennings was under the impression that his contract for next season was guaranteed, but the bucks are still deliberating on if they will pick up his contract. At this time, Jennings is NOT under contract for next season with the Bucks.
  11. The Bucks have decided not to waive Brandon Jennings, thus making his $2.2 million contract for next season guaranteed.
  12. I too am baffled on the signing. I was hoping for a couple one year deals for players and to create flexibility the next couple years to at least have the option of signing a big name player that may want to pair up with Giannis on the Bucks. Signing players like Snell and Ilyasova to contracts that run through the rest of Giannis’ contract here is concerning to me. Giannis will start to get increasingly frustrated with the lack of high end talent around him.
  13. Parker would sign the contract with the team he prefers. I believe that the amount of years and money offered is irrelevant and it is strictly Parker’s choice on the offer he wants. The Bucks then have the choice to match the offer that Parker agreed to with the other team or let him walk.
  14. Ersan Ilyasova has agreed to a 3 year, $21 million contract with the Bucks.
  15. Khris Middleton reportedly will turn down proposals for a contract extension. He has 2 years and $26 million left on his contract. Middleton will definitely turn down his player option for $13 million next season and become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Would it be wise of the Bucks to explore trading Middleton? If they do decide to go that route, what would the return look like?
  16. Bahahaha, between the Nationals and the Rays...someone should tell these front offices that drugs are bad for you. Realmuto is definitely more valuable than Lucroy was at the deadline, but the gap between the Lucroy deal and Robles/Soto...it might as well be the grand canyon. I wouldn't trade either one of those guys for Realmuto if I'm the Nationals. As for this offer, just no. Hiura is not getting moved for Realmuto, I wouldn't make that trade straight up. I think Burnes or Peralta would be a good enough centerpiece, probably the best one they'd get. Nottingham would be likely to go back to the Marlins in any Realmuto deal. I wouldn’t do the trade either, but you need to look at what a realistic trade would take. When Lucroy was traded, they got the number 16 prospect in Brinson, Ortiz, who was ranked 63rd, and Cordell. Jeffress was included in the trade, but Lucroy was definitely the core piece. Realmuto comes with an additional year of control though compared to Lucroy. Realmuto is arguably the top catcher in baseball and won’t be given up cheap. I don’t find it unreasonable for the Brewers needing to give up Hiura, who is ranked 48th, but is most likely a top 20 now, Burnes, who is ranked 58th, and Lutz who is a few years away. Stearns could possibly squeeze a prospect back from the Marlins in this situation, but it would be a lottery ticket.
  17. The Nationals inquired about Realmuto in the offseason and the Marlins were interested in BOTH Victor Robles and Juan Soto. Getting Realmuto would require a haul larger than what the Brewers got for Lucroy, who was under control for only one and a half years. If the Brewers were to look at trading for Realmuto, Hiura would need to be involved to even remain on the phone. Burnes or Peralta would need to be included as well. Plus a third piece that has high upside. I think the Marlins would be looking at: Brewers get: J.T. Realmuto Marlins get: Keston Hiura, Corbin Burnes, Tristen Lutz I think it is fair for both sides, but I would not do this trade. Other moves need to be done to the roster before making a big trade such as this. There are too many other holes to go all in right now.
  18. If the Bucks are serious about trading up to draft Bamba if he is available in the 3-5 range, what would it take to get there? Would trading the number 17 pick plus Middleton get it done? Middleton is owed $13 million this season and will definitely opt out of the last year of his contract and get a hefty bump probably in the $25 million range for 4 years. I don’t see any other possible way for the Bucks to get up that high in the draft unless Middleton is involved. I think that Bamba will be a force very early in his career and will be a true rim protector from day 1. Getting Bamba would be a nice splash move to open the new arena. Plus having Parker and Middleton’s contracts off the books would free up a lot of cap space to chase after big name players either this offseason or next offseason. Plus, who wouldn’t want to watch Bamba and Giannis running the floor together on fast breaks or destroying the rim on pick and rolls?
  19. On June 23rd, the Brewers will be naming the broadcast booth in the right field corner to “Nelly’s Corner”. The Brewers will also be wearing a “Nelly” memorial patch on their sleeves during the series with the Cardinals from June 21st through the 24th. An awesome tribute for an awesome man!
  20. I have a feeling that this is Sogard’s “last straw” and that is why they are giving him a few games in a row to see if he can turn it around.
  21. I don’t understand why CC pulls all of the starters without letting them finish their final frame. They are always pulled mid inning even if the pitch count isn’t too big of a concern. The bullpen is solid, but this is part of the reason for the over used bullpen as it is.
  22. There was a lot of speculation this past offseason about the Brewers going after a top arm in free agency to bolster the starting rotation. Stearns stood pat and rolled out a back end of the rotation that was questionable to a lot of people. I wonder if Stearns began the season with the starting rotation structure as it is knowing that Burnes will be brought up early in the season and did not want to be locked into a long term contract with our starting pitching depth in the minors as strong as it is. Stearns knew Burnes would be inserted into the rotation once his Super 2 eligibility had passed around mid May. Anderson Davies Burnes Chacin Guerra/Suter/Woodruff With Nelson returning mid season, this starting rotation could really be dominant down the stretch. In my opinion, Stearns was initially comfortable starting the season with Suter and Woodruff rounding out the rotation knowing that it would only be for a handful of starts until Burnes is brought up to replace whoever is struggling in the rotation. It may have looked like a plan that was not complete, but I see it being complete once Burnes is inserted into the rotation after a few more weeks.
  23. I’m not too concerned yet about Anderson to start the season. Before his first start of the year, he was extremely sick and was not sure if he would pitch opening day. He also had his awkward slide in the first game of the season where he may have hurt his shoulder and possibly dealt with concussion symptoms the rest of that start and leading up to his second start. Anderson himself admitted to “might have momentarily blacked out” after hitting his head. For the game tonight, it is chilly in New York, especially factoring in the strong winds they are playing through. It could take Anderson a few weeks to get to where he needs to after being sick to start the season, possibly getting a concussion, and pitching in the cold weather. Once it is in the 70’s every game, I am sure he will be back to where he was last season.
  24. I brought up the same question a couple games ago. I agree that it seems like they are hitting a lot more ground balls this season compared to last season. Very few balls are being hit hard for outs in the outfield or to the track like last season where it seemed like there were a few near miss home runs each game.
